[00:00:06] It's The Ten to One Podcast with your host Brad Oman, featuring Ben Conowitz and Nate Lauchs. And here's the podcast!
[00:00:19] I am a repertoire player, is that right? Is that what the third level player is?
[00:00:25] Third level. You've got the regular performers, the featured performers, and the regulatory players according to Nate Lauchs.
[00:00:36] Isn't featured repertory? I don't know. I don't remember what the...
[00:00:40] Isn't it just main cast? I'm not gonna lie, I am impressed that I can say the word repertoire.
[00:00:46] Yeah, I couldn't even say it. I said something different.
[00:00:49] I don't know what you said, but it was...
[00:00:51] I said respiratory players because they breathe a lot.
[00:00:53] It was a very Nate Bargatze way of saying the word.
[00:00:56] Fair enough.
[00:00:58] Fair enough.
[00:01:00] Now Ben, repertory is the main cast.
[00:01:03] That's what I said.
[00:01:04] No, you didn't even say the word.
[00:01:06] But...
[00:01:07] But Ben, what do you think, having never heard of Nate Bargatze...
[00:01:12] Or Saturday Night Live.
[00:01:13] What did you think of that guy?
[00:01:16] Yeah.
[00:01:16] You both know that he's one of my favorite stand-ups working today.
[00:01:19] And I love him very much.
[00:01:21] And I love that he can work...
[00:01:23] He's as funny as any human being on the planet while working clean, which is just a crazy hard thing to do in Camity.
[00:01:31] In the Camity world.
[00:01:33] It's so hard to do and he does it so well.
[00:01:35] So I love Nate.
[00:01:36] And I do wanna...
[00:01:37] I love you too.
[00:01:39] And welcome to the 10 to 1 podcast.
[00:01:41] This is a Saturday Night Live recap review podcast.
[00:01:44] We are just starting in the new season, season 50.
[00:01:47] And good to have you guys with us.
[00:01:50] I want you guys to compare because we have two clean comics, right, in this episode.
[00:01:56] Rank them.
[00:01:57] Who's the better comedian?
[00:01:59] Nate Bargatze or...
[00:02:01] Or I like to say Nate Bargatze.
[00:02:04] Or Jim Gaffigan.
[00:02:06] Jim Gaffigan.
[00:02:06] And people like to say Gaffigan.
[00:02:08] Jim Gaffigan.
[00:02:09] Goffigan.
[00:02:10] Goffigan.
[00:02:12] Rank them.
[00:02:12] I haven't seen the past, I wanna say two or three Gaffigan specials.
[00:02:17] What?
[00:02:18] He's still got like, what, 15 of them now?
[00:02:20] I think that's the thing.
[00:02:21] Like, Bargatze has, I think...
[00:02:24] What?
[00:02:24] Is that a pretty good Jim Gaffigan?
[00:02:25] He's got like four specials.
[00:02:26] He has...
[00:02:26] Well, albums or specials, right?
[00:02:29] Yeah.
[00:02:29] He's got Yelled At By A Clown.
[00:02:32] Right.
[00:02:33] Part-time Magic, or full-time Magic.
[00:02:35] Greatest Average American.
[00:02:36] And then he's got...
[00:02:37] Hello World.
[00:02:37] Hold on.
[00:02:38] He's got those two that I said.
[00:02:41] Yeah.
[00:02:41] And then he's got the...
[00:02:44] Oh, Tennessee Kid.
[00:02:44] Tennessee Kid is his first one on Netflix.
[00:02:46] It's a good one.
[00:02:46] Then The Greatest Average American, then Hello World.
[00:02:48] Yeah.
[00:02:48] So he's got five albums.
[00:02:49] All very, very good.
[00:02:50] Three specials.
[00:02:51] Yeah.
[00:02:51] The three specials are incredible.
[00:02:53] Yeah.
[00:02:53] All of them are literally some of the hardest laughs I've had watching stand-up.
[00:02:57] They're very good.
[00:02:57] I still think, to this day, his breakout, the Tennessee Kid, is probably the hardest I've
[00:03:02] laughed at a clean comedian ever.
[00:03:03] Yeah.
[00:03:04] It's just so funny.
[00:03:05] But comparatively, though, I don't know...
[00:03:06] If I were to compare probably The Tennessee Kid or Greatest Average American, both of which
[00:03:11] I love to...
[00:03:12] So like peaking...
[00:03:13] Yeah, like Beyond the Pale Jim Gaffigan?
[00:03:14] I don't know.
[00:03:15] It's very close.
[00:03:16] Yeah.
[00:03:16] Because I've seen Beyond the Pale I don't know how many times.
[00:03:19] It will always make me laugh.
[00:03:20] And so that being said, there's a peak there for Gaffigan, but I don't think that
[00:03:26] like, because he's got so many, I'm not like, wow, every one of them just made me cry with
[00:03:31] laughter.
[00:03:31] No, for sure.
[00:03:31] That's tough.
[00:03:32] I think maybe on Prime, did he have a recent...
[00:03:36] He's got a couple on Prime.
[00:03:37] The Prisoner, Dark Pale, Comedy Monster, The Pale Tourist.
[00:03:40] Yeah.
[00:03:41] The thing about Gaffigan, too, is he's clearly getting into more serious acting roles, too.
[00:03:47] Like, he's building a film career, whereas Nate Bargazzi is not, right?
[00:03:54] Yeah.
[00:03:54] I mean, he is definitely still very much on the standup circuit.
[00:03:56] He's on that grind.
[00:03:57] He's probably touring 40 weeks a year.
[00:03:59] He's doing it.
[00:04:01] Yeah.
[00:04:01] Yeah.
[00:04:01] And he's taking advantage because there's a limited shelf life these days for...
[00:04:06] To be that popular in standup comedy, yeah.
[00:04:08] Tom Segura is probably just on the other side of it now, but he was beating Bert Kreischer,
[00:04:12] same thing.
[00:04:12] They had the skyrockets of fame.
[00:04:14] I think Bargazzi's bigger than those two, don't you think?
[00:04:16] I mean, they all sell out arenas.
[00:04:19] Yeah.
[00:04:19] And Madison Square Garden and stuff.
[00:04:20] Tom Segura's pretty huge because of his podcast, too.
[00:04:22] Same with Kreischer.
[00:04:23] Kreischer's enormous.
[00:04:24] He sold out like arenas.
[00:04:25] It's nuts to me.
[00:04:26] It's true.
[00:04:27] It's sometimes hard for me to judge how popular a comedian is, because just because they
[00:04:32] don't have national...
[00:04:33] Or like you're not seeing them on the national circuit, like in the major media kind of things.
[00:04:39] A lot of them have huge followings.
[00:04:42] Enormous followings.
[00:04:42] Yeah.
[00:04:43] And then Mullaney's the other one that has probably a little bit past his prime because
[00:04:46] of the whole rehab thing.
[00:04:47] But when he...
[00:04:48] Live from Radio City was just incredible.
[00:04:51] The comeback kid.
[00:04:52] Those things were...
[00:04:53] They were peaking, man.
[00:04:55] I just listened to his...
[00:04:56] Because I...
[00:04:56] Do you guys ever re-listen to comedy specials?
[00:04:58] I do.
[00:04:58] All the time.
[00:04:59] Yeah, of course.
[00:05:00] So Mullaney's one after he got out of...
[00:05:03] Baby J.
[00:05:04] Baby J.
[00:05:04] Re-listened to that the other day and was just laughing so...
[00:05:07] It's so good.
[00:05:08] It's great.
[00:05:08] It's a really good special.
[00:05:09] That's all I was gonna say.
[00:05:10] It's a departure.
[00:05:11] I was gonna say, too, I don't think he's necessarily past his prime.
[00:05:15] Part of me thinks that he's definitely not at that prime level, but past his prime makes
[00:05:19] it seem like he's never gonna be that good again.
[00:05:22] But I feel like he's just in a different phase of his career.
[00:05:24] I think that past his prime for me means because of everything that's happened to him, he's a different
[00:05:29] comedian now.
[00:05:30] Sure.
[00:05:30] We're no longer gonna get that, oh, this is all fun and games and it's just a lot of
[00:05:34] like...
[00:05:34] He's doing some dark stuff, some serious stuff.
[00:05:36] It's still very funny.
[00:05:37] Yeah.
[00:05:38] But Comeback Kid and Radio City were like peaking just fun, silly millennia where it was unhinged
[00:05:44] and we know why now, but it was just...
[00:05:46] The cocaine.
[00:05:46] The cocaine.
[00:05:47] Very, very good stuff that was approachable for everybody.
[00:05:50] Yeah.
[00:05:50] And I kinda...
[00:05:51] I love comedians that know how to take the hardest bits of life and make them funny.
[00:05:58] Mm-hmm.
[00:05:58] So this turn might not be as accessible to some people, but I love where Mulaney's going
[00:06:04] with some of this.
[00:06:05] But...
[00:06:05] And I love cocaine.
[00:06:07] Who doesn't?
[00:06:08] But...
[00:06:08] Speaking of cocaine, Saturday Night Live is still very much a thing.
[00:06:11] And we just had the second episode of season 50 following the premiere last week.
[00:06:16] Yeah, we know.
[00:06:17] That's why we were talking about Nate Bargatze.
[00:06:18] I'm 50.
[00:06:18] This is the second...
[00:06:19] I'm 50.
[00:06:20] This is the second of four episodes in a row that we're getting here to kick off season
[00:06:25] 50.
[00:06:25] It's a big deal.
[00:06:26] And the host, as we said, was Nate Bargatze and this is the second time hosting and he
[00:06:32] In two years.
[00:06:32] Yeah, pretty good.
[00:06:33] He just hosted actually less than a year ago.
[00:06:37] Yeah, it's very rare.
[00:06:38] Very rare.
[00:06:39] I don't think in the last like 10 years they've had that happen more than twice, I think.
[00:06:43] Yeah.
[00:06:43] And he was joined by Coldplay as the musical guest, which I was a little...
[00:06:46] I want to say, no spoiler really here, but I was a little bummed that they didn't get
[00:06:49] in on any of the sketch action.
[00:06:51] Because there wasn't a ton of sketches though.
[00:06:53] Well, I don't know if that's entirely true.
[00:06:55] I think they had a couple long ones and then the cold open was very long.
[00:07:01] It wasn't as long as last week's though.
[00:07:03] They cut five minutes off it, but then their monologue was twice as long.
[00:07:06] That's true.
[00:07:06] Yeah, the stand up monologue does take a look at it.
[00:07:09] So, I mean there wasn't a ton, but we'll get into it.
[00:07:11] But yeah.
[00:07:12] There wasn't the same number that there usually is.
[00:07:14] That's for sure.
[00:07:14] Correct, yeah.
[00:07:15] But let's get into it then.
[00:07:17] Let's talk about Saturday Night Live.
[00:07:19] All right.
[00:07:20] All right.
[00:07:21] Vice presidential debate cold opening.
[00:07:24] Two POVs between vice presidential debate candidate J.D. Vance, played by Bowen Yang, and Tim Waltz, Jim Gaffigan.
[00:07:33] And the vice president at residence with Kamala Harris, played by Maya Rudolph, Doug Emhoff, played by Andy Samberg, and Joe Biden, played by Dana Carvey.
[00:07:43] So, in this sketch they're going back and forth showing the debates back to the residents, the vice president residents.
[00:07:49] This was, I checked this morning, the number one trending video on YouTube.
[00:07:57] Yeah, of course it was.
[00:07:58] This was, I mean they're not always.
[00:08:00] They're not always, but this definitely was.
[00:08:03] I think it depends on what time you look, too.
[00:08:06] Yeah, but I mean this had, because I tried to check like the view counts.
[00:08:10] This had like two and a half million views all right.
[00:08:13] It was, I checked them actually because I was watching the last few that I missed from the night before and then I checked for any cut for time.
[00:08:19] Yep.
[00:08:19] And then I started seeing the hundreds of thousands of views or whatever.
[00:08:21] And this was probably at 9am and it had 1.5 million.
[00:08:26] And the second biggest one was, we'll get into it, but it had 600,000 at that time.
[00:08:31] Yeah.
[00:08:31] So the cold open is huge on this one.
[00:08:34] Let me say a couple things that I loved about this is the impressions by every cast member.
[00:08:42] I mean every one of them, and the guests as well, Dana Carvey obviously, Jim Gaffigan, are just fantastic.
[00:08:49] The performance in this cold open is just a little bit electric to watch.
[00:08:55] It is because everyone does a role here that is really, really good, adding nuance.
[00:09:01] Bowen Yang, right, adds nuance to J.D. Vance that is just so good.
[00:09:06] Dana Carvey's brilliant in his Joe Biden.
[00:09:09] Just brilliant.
[00:09:10] I forgot how good he can be, and that sounds like a slap in the face, but his later on getting
[00:09:20] back into doing impressions on Fly on the Wall podcast, he'll just jump right into the old
[00:09:24] favorites, the old standbys.
[00:09:25] This is the first time I've seen a quote unquote new impression from him in a while.
[00:09:28] And my God, is he perfect.
[00:09:31] Literally perfect.
[00:09:32] It reminds you why he was so good.
[00:09:33] I wish his voice was a little bit deeper.
[00:09:37] I think that's my one complaint about it, but the great thing about-
[00:09:39] His mannerisms though.
[00:09:40] That's the thing.
[00:09:40] The great thing about Dana Carvey is he really hones in on very specific little details as
[00:09:45] far as his cadence and how he says certain things, and that's really what makes it work
[00:09:49] despite that.
[00:09:50] Also, because he's been doing it for so long, and maybe he did this in the 90s when he was
[00:09:55] obviously at the top of his game then, that man understands a pause like nobody else
[00:10:01] in an impression.
[00:10:02] He- and it's not waiting for the laughter to die down.
[00:10:05] It's a Letterman style thing where like if I keep this going, it's gonna get funnier.
[00:10:09] Right.
[00:10:10] And then he knows exactly when to pull it.
[00:10:11] Yeah.
[00:10:11] I'm gonna use the crowd against itself almost.
[00:10:14] It's freaking perfect.
[00:10:15] That said, all that said, also Jim Gavigan does a fantastic Governor Walz impression as
[00:10:20] well.
[00:10:20] I mean, it's just so good.
[00:10:23] The sketch itself was just fine.
[00:10:25] There wasn't anything in there that really had me dying laughing.
[00:10:29] I mean, it was enjoyable.
[00:10:30] Like I didn't dislike it.
[00:10:32] And we often are critical, right, of the cold openings.
[00:10:36] But it wasn't bad.
[00:10:38] Yeah.
[00:10:38] There was nothing in this that grabbed me though.
[00:10:40] I think what's making them maybe work a little bit better than they otherwise might is the
[00:10:44] fact that everybody is so good in their roles.
[00:10:47] Yep.
[00:10:47] Because even when Maya Rudolph messed up that Bruce Springsteen line, she took a second
[00:10:52] to compose herself and kind of like won the crowd back.
[00:10:56] Because like otherwise you knew there was going to be that struggle of like, ah, the
[00:10:59] punchline didn't land.
[00:11:00] We're off our game.
[00:11:01] And the punchline didn't land as much.
[00:11:02] Baby report to run.
[00:11:03] Right.
[00:11:03] But doing that moment, it was like, okay, we're going to get back into it.
[00:11:06] Because she did that and then the crowd responded even bigger than they would have
[00:11:08] if she would have nailed it the first time.
[00:11:10] Yeah, exactly.
[00:11:11] She knows what she's doing.
[00:11:11] And what they did here too is, right, when they take these political characters, you
[00:11:16] go back to the Sarah Palins, you go back to the George Bushes, you go back to all the
[00:11:20] characters that they've done that have been so successful.
[00:11:24] They take these characters and they bring just a little twist of it.
[00:11:28] Doug Emhoff, right?
[00:11:29] I don't know if you guys follow this type of...
[00:11:32] Oh yeah.
[00:11:32] I'm a Hoffhead.
[00:11:33] Oh yeah, he's my favorite.
[00:11:33] But they've turned him into this kind of lovable husband.
[00:11:38] Me Hoff.
[00:11:38] Doug.
[00:11:39] Doug, you know.
[00:11:41] That isn't necessarily him, but it's him enough.
[00:11:44] It's him enough.
[00:11:45] Yeah.
[00:11:45] And it makes him kind of a fun...
[00:11:47] It's a satirized version of him.
[00:11:49] It's more about capturing the vibe of Doug Emhoff than it is doing a real impression
[00:11:53] of him.
[00:11:54] Exactly.
[00:11:54] But that's what I love.
[00:11:55] I love, and I think when they do political satire well, they're just hitting it just enough.
[00:12:01] This year's Christmas decoration, Hanukkah.
[00:12:04] Yes.
[00:12:04] Love that line.
[00:12:05] Andy Samberg's doing great.
[00:12:06] I know.
[00:12:07] I know.
[00:12:08] Andy Samberg's doing great there.
[00:12:10] So, all that to say, I didn't think the comedy was the best comedy.
[00:12:13] No.
[00:12:14] There were some predictable jokes in there.
[00:12:15] Well, and not only predictable, but it's the same problem that they run into, especially
[00:12:19] when it comes to...
[00:12:19] And we're obviously a little biased because we do lean a little more to the left than we
[00:12:24] do the right.
[00:12:25] Whoa.
[00:12:25] But you're not going to find anything...
[00:12:28] It's tough to find comedy that is funnier than what J.D. Vance really did at the debate
[00:12:33] with the...
[00:12:34] We said we weren't going to fact check.
[00:12:35] You know?
[00:12:35] That's a real thing that happened, and just saying it several times in a repeated hushed
[00:12:40] manner doesn't make it funnier.
[00:12:42] It's just doing what happens, and...
[00:12:44] It's just so...
[00:12:45] Yeah.
[00:12:45] It is hard to parody a parody, basically.
[00:12:48] And that's what it feels like.
[00:12:48] And when Tim Waltz, in the presidential debate, said, I'm friends with school shooters,
[00:12:53] and then, you know, cut to Kamala Harris where she breaks the glass.
[00:12:58] I'm like...
[00:13:01] Whatever.
[00:13:01] Right?
[00:13:02] I kind of saw it coming.
[00:13:03] Yeah, exactly.
[00:13:04] Sure.
[00:13:04] A little bit.
[00:13:05] Oh, she was frustrated because I'm sure she actually was.
[00:13:07] Like, you know?
[00:13:08] Because I was a pretty big guy.
[00:13:10] But I always liked the little, like, interludes that they add to stuff when, like, Waltz was
[00:13:14] taking notes, and it was like, are you taking notes on your responses?
[00:13:16] Like, oh, no, I just gotta grade these midterms.
[00:13:18] Yep.
[00:13:18] Yep.
[00:13:19] And then when...
[00:13:20] Yeah, that was...
[00:13:21] ...dana Carvey tried to...
[00:13:22] Got the ice cream on Maya Rudolph's face.
[00:13:25] And I wonder...
[00:13:25] I don't know if he was supposed to.
[00:13:26] I don't think he was supposed to.
[00:13:27] Yeah, because her reaction was kind of like...
[00:13:29] Like, okay, here we go.
[00:13:30] Yeah.
[00:13:31] Are you a little surprised at how good Jim Gaffigan is at this?
[00:13:34] Because he's really good.
[00:13:36] No, I'm actually not, and here's why.
[00:13:38] He had an actual show for a little bit.
[00:13:41] Yeah.
[00:13:41] The Jim Gaffigan show, it was called.
[00:13:43] Yeah.
[00:13:43] And it was very good.
[00:13:44] Everything he's ever been in, it's very good.
[00:13:47] Yeah.
[00:13:47] He's a very good actor.
[00:13:49] I...
[00:13:50] The funny thing is, is I wasn't necessarily sure if he could do a good impression of Tim
[00:13:55] Waltz because Waltz's voice is a little bit more gravelly.
[00:13:59] And Gaffigan's isn't quite like that.
[00:14:01] But again, it's one of those things where he has the demeanor and he speaks in that Midwestern
[00:14:07] way.
[00:14:07] And he is a Midwestern guy.
[00:14:08] Yeah, exactly.
[00:14:09] You know?
[00:14:09] So he gets it.
[00:14:10] He gets it.
[00:14:10] Yeah.
[00:14:10] And he's very good at the Minnesota accent.
[00:14:12] Yeah.
[00:14:12] He says the...
[00:14:14] Oh, it's almost like Canadian.
[00:14:16] Oh, don't you know?
[00:14:16] Like it's...
[00:14:17] Yeah.
[00:14:17] He's bringing that.
[00:14:17] But it's slight.
[00:14:18] Yeah.
[00:14:19] But it's the dads of our friends we know, right?
[00:14:22] Yes.
[00:14:22] Absolutely.
[00:14:23] And Jim Gaffigan probably grew up knowing these guys, right?
[00:14:25] A hundred percent.
[00:14:26] So...
[00:14:27] Did I tell you guys that I interviewed Jim Gaffigan?
[00:14:29] No.
[00:14:30] Oh boy, Greg.
[00:14:30] No.
[00:14:31] How was he?
[00:14:32] I just wanted to tell you that.
[00:14:33] Was he a nice guy?
[00:14:34] Oh no, he was.
[00:14:35] Oh, he was very nice.
[00:14:35] Oh, he was fantastic.
[00:14:36] And if you haven't seen a movie called Linoleum, I would recommend you seek it out.
[00:14:40] It is not a comedy.
[00:14:41] It is an indie that's a little bit strange, definitely more dramatic, but he's the lead in it.
[00:14:47] And he's fantastic in it.
[00:14:48] I really liked it a lot.
[00:14:49] It was one of my favorite movies from, I think it was last year.
[00:14:52] Yeah.
[00:14:52] Not last year, the year before.
[00:14:53] I remember you talking about it.
[00:14:54] All right.
[00:14:55] Moving on.
[00:14:55] Stand-up monologue by Nate Bargazzi.
[00:14:58] Back to host Saturday Night Live for the second time, Nate Bargazzi talks about going
[00:15:03] to community college, not knowing what extra virgin olive oil is, and abusing the DoorDash
[00:15:09] app at McDonald's and Sonics.
[00:15:11] I felt personally attacked by the DoorDash stuff.
[00:15:14] I'm sure you did.
[00:15:15] I only use DoorDash.
[00:15:16] I don't use Uber Eats.
[00:15:17] I've never used any of the other ones.
[00:15:18] How often do you DoorDash?
[00:15:20] I mean-
[00:15:20] Once a week.
[00:15:21] It was daily.
[00:15:24] That's not me, by the way.
[00:15:25] That's me answering for a pen.
[00:15:26] No, it was daily for quite a while.
[00:15:27] Oh, that's sad.
[00:15:28] And the DoubleDash thing and all that, I mean, it's so true.
[00:15:31] I've literally had two DoorDash drivers come at the same time because I did a DoubleDash,
[00:15:35] and I was like, wait, I thought that the same person was just going to do this, because
[00:15:38] the restaurants are right by each other.
[00:15:39] It's so awkward.
[00:15:40] I was just, it's crazy.
[00:15:42] It's not the same person?
[00:15:43] He is exactly right.
[00:15:44] He was telling the honest to God truth.
[00:15:46] I've done it, where you DoorDash something from, in our town, McDonald's and Taco Bell
[00:15:51] are right next to each other.
[00:15:52] Interesting.
[00:15:53] And the DoubleDash is real.
[00:15:54] They don't charge you any fees or anything to add something on.
[00:15:56] Yeah, yeah.
[00:15:57] You still have to re-tip the driver again.
[00:15:59] Yeah, yeah.
[00:15:59] But I always thought, oh, well he's going to be right there, so he's just going to
[00:16:02] go, nope.
[00:16:02] I've always thought that when it was a DoubleDash, they gave you the stuff that was on the way
[00:16:07] to your location, and that if you got something, it was just easier for your driver who's
[00:16:10] already on the way to do it.
[00:16:11] That's what I thought too, but that's not at all how it works.
[00:16:13] Interesting.
[00:16:13] It's freaking crazy.
[00:16:14] But yeah, I felt personally attacked there.
[00:16:17] Did anybody else think that this felt a little-
[00:16:20] I'm going to say yes before you say yours, and I'm going to see if it's the same thing.
[00:16:24] I'm going to say yes.
[00:16:24] Did anybody else feel like this was a little bit more of him working stuff out?
[00:16:28] Yes!
[00:16:29] Because I felt the first little minute and a half of it was awkward.
[00:16:33] Like it was just-
[00:16:34] Yeah.
[00:16:35] Not really finding his footing, and it's because these-
[00:16:37] And I listened to so much of him.
[00:16:39] I saw him at the Helium in Indy before he did Madison Square Garden, and he's definitely
[00:16:42] almost there.
[00:16:43] Yeah.
[00:16:44] Now, what were some of the early-
[00:16:46] Because there's one joke that he does early on in this monologue, and we can cut this
[00:16:51] if it drags on too long, me trying to remember it.
[00:16:53] And I've listened to Yelled At By a Clown and Full Time Magic, Going to Sleep.
[00:17:00] I listen to Stand Up sometimes.
[00:17:01] I've probably listened to those albums 30, 40 times right now.
[00:17:03] He did a bit in this-
[00:17:05] The community college one?
[00:17:06] Yes.
[00:17:06] But it's not the same stuff.
[00:17:07] Yeah.
[00:17:07] It's the same exact premise where he talks about doing remedial classes, and he's like-
[00:17:12] I took-
[00:17:12] Because it wasn't speech in the album.
[00:17:14] It's like, I took English as a non-immigrant, and I drove to that class.
[00:17:17] Like that's funny.
[00:17:18] And then he took the same premise, and now he's like spinning around with it.
[00:17:21] Yeah.
[00:17:21] And that's part of his shtick, right?
[00:17:23] Right.
[00:17:23] Is I'm not a smart person.
[00:17:24] Not a smart guy.
[00:17:24] Right?
[00:17:25] But it still felt like working stuff out.
[00:17:26] Yeah, it did.
[00:17:27] I agree.
[00:17:27] I think the second half was stronger than the first half.
[00:17:30] I agree.
[00:17:30] But some of that material definitely felt like it was still really getting it ready for
[00:17:33] a special.
[00:17:34] Did you though-
[00:17:34] And it might be.
[00:17:35] Did part of you though, in that first minute and a half of awkwardness, did part of you
[00:17:39] start being like, come on, come on.
[00:17:41] Oh, absolutely.
[00:17:42] I'm like-
[00:17:42] Because I'm in my head going like, I tell everybody how funny you are.
[00:17:45] Yeah, exactly.
[00:17:46] Like, please, please, the international audience is getting a chance to see you.
[00:17:50] Yeah, exactly.
[00:17:50] And you did fine last time, buddy.
[00:17:51] Yeah.
[00:17:52] You killed it last time, actually.
[00:17:52] But I really want my friends and family to be like, Ben, you're right, this guy's
[00:17:55] hilarious.
[00:17:55] Yeah, exactly.
[00:17:56] And I felt that he ended up pulling it out pretty well.
[00:17:59] Yeah, he was fine by the end.
[00:17:59] But it was just not as good as the first time.
[00:18:01] No.
[00:18:01] I don't know.
[00:18:02] All right.
[00:18:03] Washington's Dream Dos 2, written by Streeter Seidel, Mikey Day, and Mike DiCenzo.
[00:18:09] George Washington, played by Nate Bargazzi, talks with his soldiers, played by Mikey Day,
[00:18:14] Bo and Yang, James Austin Johnson, and Keaton Thompson about the unique words of the English
[00:18:17] language.
[00:18:19] This is obviously the second version of this.
[00:18:22] They did this before.
[00:18:23] It went viral.
[00:18:24] It was a huge hit.
[00:18:26] Always risky to bring this back because you never know if you can capture the same
[00:18:29] thing.
[00:18:30] Let me say, I liked this, but there was one thing I did, one very specific thing I did
[00:18:36] not like about this iteration of it.
[00:18:38] Can you guys guess what it is?
[00:18:39] Ooh, this is like a fun game that we're doing in this episode.
[00:18:42] Yeah.
[00:18:43] I'm going to say what it is and then you tell me if it's right.
[00:18:45] Okay.
[00:18:47] That they did not have in the first version of this that they added to this one that
[00:18:51] I did not.
[00:18:51] The throwing them off the boat?
[00:18:53] Nope.
[00:18:53] No.
[00:18:54] Yeah, I don't know.
[00:18:55] The background music.
[00:18:56] I did not like the background music and here's why.
[00:19:00] I feel it messed with the awkward silences that Nate Bargatze has to have in the sketch
[00:19:06] for it to work.
[00:19:07] And when there is music there, it fills the air a little bit.
[00:19:11] That's fair.
[00:19:12] Yeah.
[00:19:12] And I went back and watched the first one.
[00:19:14] They had no music.
[00:19:15] They had no swelling.
[00:19:16] They had no nothing.
[00:19:17] It was just him talking to his guys.
[00:19:20] And actually, I wish they would have went with that again because part of the fun of this
[00:19:26] sketch is the silences.
[00:19:28] It is Nate Bargatze being awkward.
[00:19:31] It is all of those things.
[00:19:33] And the music, I bet if they would have turned that off, would have added just slightly more
[00:19:37] to that and it would have been a little bit better.
[00:19:39] I don't know why they decided to go with background music in this one.
[00:19:42] I don't know why.
[00:19:42] Part of me wonders if they felt like he went better with the vibe of the scene that they
[00:19:45] had built because it is that triumphant portrait of Washington on the boat.
[00:19:49] You know, like it's that famous image.
[00:19:51] And so maybe they felt like it should have been a little more heroic.
[00:19:54] And maybe they thought that first one, man, you know what?
[00:19:57] It would have been a little better if we did background music because those awkward silences were too awkward and the audience
[00:20:02] didn't really know what to do.
[00:20:03] But then I don't know if you guys notice this though as well.
[00:20:06] The music was synced with the sketch, but they got behind in the sketch a little bit.
[00:20:12] So the swelling at the end started before they were at that point.
[00:20:16] They missed their mark for that.
[00:20:18] That makes it tougher.
[00:20:19] Yeah, it makes it a little tougher.
[00:20:20] And so again, then I'm thinking of somebody who's kind of dumb though and didn't really pay attention to that part of it.
[00:20:24] I like the sketch.
[00:20:26] I did love the sketch, right?
[00:20:28] It was good.
[00:20:28] It was another it was the same formula, but it was really hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice.
[00:20:32] They did a pretty serviceable job here.
[00:20:34] I like that.
[00:20:35] It's you know, you know, the premise now, you know, the premise.
[00:20:38] So then it becomes can I get ahead of it?
[00:20:39] Yep.
[00:20:40] Do I know what's coming next?
[00:20:40] And I really a lot of it.
[00:20:41] I didn't I didn't see it coming like it was really fun.
[00:20:43] You know, I really thought that maybe they would bring back Baker's dozen with a dozen
[00:20:47] because like there's no other no other number has a word.
[00:20:50] Right.
[00:20:51] And then they did donuts.
[00:20:52] And I'm like, oh, maybe this is a great set up for Baker's dozen.
[00:20:54] They didn't do it.
[00:20:54] I was like, oh, never mind.
[00:20:55] That's why I'm not a comedy writer.
[00:20:56] What about you, Brad?
[00:20:57] What did you think?
[00:20:58] No, I it was not as good as the first one, but it was still very funny.
[00:21:02] And I part of me wonders if there's any any part of the writing process where like is this
[00:21:07] stuff that they are just thinking of on their own?
[00:21:09] Are they going and looking up like weird things about the English language?
[00:21:12] Of course they are.
[00:21:12] And then figuring out how to make it funny.
[00:21:14] Of course they are.
[00:21:14] You would do that.
[00:21:15] I would do that.
[00:21:15] But I also do.
[00:21:16] But I also do like comedy writers are smart.
[00:21:19] You know, they're sharp.
[00:21:20] If this is stuff that they have thought of, you know, and figuring out how to fit it into
[00:21:24] like a comedy sketch somewhere, because like every now and then you think of something
[00:21:26] that's funny and you write it down and you save it for later and you figure out where to
[00:21:30] fit it in, you know.
[00:21:31] But yeah, like I do would I would like to know more about the writing process for this
[00:21:36] one.
[00:21:36] I would assume that it's everybody comes to the table with stuff that they've been thinking
[00:21:40] about and then they probably will do a cursory search just to make sure there's nothing glaring
[00:21:44] that would be.
[00:21:44] Oh man, that's duh.
[00:21:45] That's right there in front of us.
[00:21:46] Yeah, because it's because it's some of it does have that thing of like where there used
[00:21:51] to be like a list that would go around of things that are just funny.
[00:21:53] Like like why do we drive in a parkway and park in a driveway, you know, stuff like that.
[00:21:58] But I'm sure if they really wanted to Google, they could have found the examples of these
[00:22:03] pretty easily.
[00:22:03] Right.
[00:22:04] Online somewhere.
[00:22:05] Yeah.
[00:22:05] So because these are I did like the football one and it wasn't just because like it's
[00:22:09] a game where you throw.
[00:22:10] That's clever.
[00:22:11] But then it's like, do you use your feet?
[00:22:13] Like sometimes you kick it every once in a while.
[00:22:17] I get that part of it was really funny.
[00:22:18] My favorite one in this one was the the examples of animals and chicken.
[00:22:23] Yeah.
[00:22:23] Calling something different when they're alive as opposed to when their food.
[00:22:26] Dude, I thought that was really funny.
[00:22:27] I mean, it's poultry.
[00:22:28] It's poultry.
[00:22:29] That's fine.
[00:22:30] All right.
[00:22:31] Moving on.
[00:22:31] Pre-tape.
[00:22:32] No one calls it that.
[00:22:33] Well, it's I mean, that's.
[00:22:34] Hey, you want to go to Kentucky Fried Poultry?
[00:22:36] I mean, when it's slaughtered, it's poultry.
[00:22:37] Asshole.
[00:22:37] Just saying.
[00:22:38] No one says it.
[00:22:39] And to be fair, poultry actually includes more than chicken.
[00:22:42] You know what?
[00:22:43] Yeah.
[00:22:43] That's fair.
[00:22:44] Yeah.
[00:22:44] Good job, Nate.
[00:22:45] All right.
[00:22:46] I said I was sorry.
[00:22:47] The more we break him down, the more he'll understand.
[00:22:50] All right.
[00:22:50] Moving on.
[00:22:51] Pre-tape.
[00:22:51] Golf tournament written by Schrader Seidel and Mikey Day.
[00:22:54] A golfer named Brady Knoll, played by Nate Bargazzi, hits some unfortunate shots during
[00:23:00] a charity golf tournament.
[00:23:02] Also features Mikey Day as Chef Duffy.
[00:23:05] Heidi Gardner as Amy Claremont and Marcello Hernandez as the caddy.
[00:23:10] What did you guys think of this one?
[00:23:12] I laughed quite a bit.
[00:23:14] I laughed a lot.
[00:23:15] I really did.
[00:23:16] So Nate was on Seth Meyers this week, and he talked about a sketch that they didn't do
[00:23:23] last time, and he didn't say anything.
[00:23:26] He just was like, there's a sketch we were going to do last time, and we couldn't really
[00:23:28] get it.
[00:23:29] And I'm really hoping, right now it's in, and I'm hoping it stays in.
[00:23:32] And I think that this was it.
[00:23:33] You think?
[00:23:34] Because Nate Bargazzi is an incredibly good and avid golfer.
[00:23:39] Yeah.
[00:23:39] He loves golfing.
[00:23:41] And so I feel if any of the sketches tonight were one of those sketches, I think this was
[00:23:44] it.
[00:23:45] I really liked it.
[00:23:47] The tee shot, I didn't see the premise coming.
[00:23:49] And obviously when he hits the bird, it was great.
[00:23:52] It's done so well.
[00:23:52] It really is.
[00:23:53] And then the veterans turn around.
[00:23:54] Oh God, that was so funny.
[00:23:56] And then he walks up to his ball, and Ashley, I'm watching it with my girlfriend, and she
[00:24:00] goes, oh, it's an egg.
[00:24:01] And as soon as he hits it, splatters it, that was great.
[00:24:03] What the hell was that?
[00:24:05] And then the eagle comes by, and then Chet, whatever his name is, might be.
[00:24:09] That got really close.
[00:24:10] And the way he said it, it startled me.
[00:24:13] It startled me.
[00:24:14] And that was really funny, the way he said that.
[00:24:16] That delivery was great.
[00:24:17] No, this sketch was fantastic.
[00:24:19] And there was, so obviously when they do pre-recorded sketches, they always have really
[00:24:23] good production value.
[00:24:24] Yep.
[00:24:25] But this one, though, what enhanced it even more was they went out of their way, and
[00:24:31] I'll give credit to director Tim Wilkamy for this, the way that they lensed it very much
[00:24:37] felt like golf on TV.
[00:24:39] Exactly.
[00:24:39] Even the live sports, the filter, the way that they shot it, the angles they had, everything
[00:24:45] felt like a legit golf tournament coverage.
[00:24:47] I wonder how much of that is them literally going and being like, hey, you know what?
[00:24:51] Let me call my buddy at NBC Sports, and let me ask some questions about how they do that,
[00:24:55] because clearly there's lenses for everything.
[00:24:57] Yeah.
[00:24:58] And so you just call up NBC Sports, and like, oh yeah, we just use this.
[00:25:01] That's so cool.
[00:25:02] I hope there's that collaboration there.
[00:25:04] Because if there's not, that director is incredible as far as coming up with that.
[00:25:08] It was done incredibly well.
[00:25:10] It looked good.
[00:25:10] It was really funny.
[00:25:11] There was escalation.
[00:25:14] Maybe a slight ding for the turtle that looked really fake.
[00:25:17] That was just silly.
[00:25:18] Yeah.
[00:25:18] I do love, though, because the escalation being like, oh, don't tell me that's like, whatever,
[00:25:24] Fairway Frank or whatever.
[00:25:25] He's been here since 1977.
[00:25:29] No, and then they have the graphic, you know, special for Fairway Frank.
[00:25:35] Yeah, that was so good.
[00:25:36] They came up with it immediately.
[00:25:37] They already have a special planned.
[00:25:39] Yeah.
[00:25:40] Yeah, the whole sketch was great.
[00:25:42] It was good.
[00:25:42] And they knew how to end it, because again, he hits a hole in whatever.
[00:25:45] He hits like an albatross, whatever it would be.
[00:25:47] Sorry, that was early in the sketch.
[00:25:49] Ha ha.
[00:25:49] Bird.
[00:25:50] But then he, of course, kills the chipmunk or whatever, and that's how the sketch ends.
[00:25:53] So it's just, there's a great ending to a great sketch.
[00:25:57] Yeah.
[00:25:58] And there's like little Nate Bargatze ways that he says things, too, where he's like,
[00:26:03] obviously, I didn't hit it on purpose.
[00:26:06] I don't think I could hit it on purpose.
[00:26:07] That's a perfect hymn delivery of that.
[00:26:09] Exactly.
[00:26:10] I couldn't do that if I wanted to.
[00:26:12] You guys all understand that, right?
[00:26:14] That's so good.
[00:26:16] All right.
[00:26:17] Moving on, Univision, Sabado Gigante.
[00:26:21] Sabado Gigante.
[00:26:22] It's a giant Saturday, Nate.
[00:26:25] It is.
[00:26:25] Written by Stephen Castilla, Brian Tucker, Dan Bulla, and Marcelo.
[00:26:29] Stephen Castillo.
[00:26:30] Castillo.
[00:26:31] Is it Castilla or Castillo?
[00:26:32] Castillo.
[00:26:34] And Marcello Hernandez.
[00:26:36] An American man, Nate Bargatze, goes on a Mexican game show hosted by Don Francisco,
[00:26:41] played by Marcello Hernandez.
[00:26:43] Also features Ego Wodum, Chloe Fineman, and Ashley Padilla as the backup dancers.
[00:26:49] And Emil Wakeham.
[00:26:50] Is it Wakeham or Walkham?
[00:26:52] Walka, walka, walka.
[00:26:54] Wakeham as Dracula.
[00:26:59] This was so much fun.
[00:27:01] I actually liked this.
[00:27:03] I don't know if you guys did.
[00:27:04] I could see people maybe potentially thinking that this is a little bit much.
[00:27:08] This is a real TV show.
[00:27:10] No, no.
[00:27:10] So I want to tell you this.
[00:27:11] Nothing about this show and the way it is played off is exaggerated.
[00:27:15] Yeah.
[00:27:15] And also, that's not racist.
[00:27:16] No.
[00:27:17] It's real.
[00:27:17] This is exactly how Sabado Gigante is.
[00:27:20] I know this because my grandpa would watch Sabado Gigante all the time.
[00:27:24] It is this random and ridiculous.
[00:27:26] It has girls dancing all the time.
[00:27:29] It's such an insane variety show.
[00:27:32] Like when Nate Bregazzi plays a character who gets pulled up in the audience and he's like,
[00:27:35] oh, I don't speak any Spanish.
[00:27:37] That's the get, right?
[00:27:37] Yeah.
[00:27:38] But it was so funny right off the bat.
[00:27:40] Why is there a Dracula?
[00:27:42] Yeah.
[00:27:42] He was just so earnest when he asked it.
[00:27:44] And this is such a perfect example.
[00:27:45] Again, and we talked about this when Bad Bunny hosted, is there's comedy that you can
[00:27:50] do where you don't understand what's being said for the most part, but it's how it's
[00:27:55] presented and what you're doing where you understand what's happening.
[00:27:57] You still get what's funny about it.
[00:27:59] There's so much visual to take in here and to follow along with it, right?
[00:28:04] Shout out to Marcelo Hernandez, by the way.
[00:28:06] Oh, gosh.
[00:28:07] Yes.
[00:28:07] He was fantastic here.
[00:28:09] Also, because I watched this on Peacock Live.
[00:28:13] But it's Peacock.
[00:28:14] I watched it on Peacock Live.
[00:28:16] I would pause it after this was over.
[00:28:18] I paused it and I brought up the Japanese game show from the 90s with Chris Farley.
[00:28:26] Oh, with Mike Myers?
[00:28:27] That's exactly what this is.
[00:28:28] I forgot about that.
[00:28:28] I forgot about that.
[00:28:29] It immediately made me think of that.
[00:28:31] And that's the better version of this.
[00:28:33] It is.
[00:28:34] Because it's just, that's hilarious.
[00:28:36] But it's also, but it's, I think what-
[00:28:38] This is still very good.
[00:28:39] Yeah, it's still very good.
[00:28:40] Because it's Nate Bergazzi.
[00:28:41] But this ran because that one walked.
[00:28:43] The way Nate Bergazzi plays it off is much different than the way Chris Farley does.
[00:28:47] Oh, of course.
[00:28:47] But it's the exact same premise.
[00:28:49] Of course.
[00:28:50] Yeah.
[00:28:50] Yeah.
[00:28:50] And what I, if you go back and watch the one from the 90s, I think the more impressive
[00:28:55] thing about that is, and I'm not sure if it's all fake Japanese, but Mike Myers is speaking
[00:29:02] Japanese.
[00:29:03] And it's monologues.
[00:29:05] I'm pretty sure it's fake Japanese.
[00:29:07] Of course.
[00:29:07] Yeah.
[00:29:08] But it's so convincing because him, and I can't remember, I think it's, oh gosh.
[00:29:13] Ginny Garofalo, isn't it?
[00:29:13] Ginny Garofalo.
[00:29:14] Yeah, she's one of the contestants.
[00:29:15] And Alec Baldwin is the other one, but then he's there with a cast member that's a woman
[00:29:19] that is also, and they're all speaking fake Japanese, but it's so convincing.
[00:29:23] And it's haji juhaji.
[00:29:25] Yeah.
[00:29:25] And it's just really good.
[00:29:27] Ahji juhaji?
[00:29:28] I don't know.
[00:29:29] So it's just, that sketch is an all-timer for sure.
[00:29:32] It just immediately made me think of this.
[00:29:34] This stands on its own two feet for sure.
[00:29:36] Because Bergazzi sells it.
[00:29:37] Not only that too, but like, it's the, using like a real show.
[00:29:43] Yes.
[00:29:44] And bringing so much into it, like from that show, they did such a good job of creating
[00:29:48] all the different elements of it and making it work.
[00:29:51] Like from the puppets to the dancing to the game show.
[00:29:54] It's a lot of logistics to have going on.
[00:29:57] It was very impressive.
[00:29:57] And also, this is why it's important to have people from different backgrounds on the show
[00:30:02] as well, right?
[00:30:03] Because Marcelo Hernandez is able to, probably because he had a grandfather or somebody that
[00:30:07] was watching the show.
[00:30:08] It's the same reason we saw, you know, like when Fred Armisen was on, you would get Showbiz
[00:30:13] Grande Explosion.
[00:30:14] Ay, Dios mio.
[00:30:15] Again, real stuff from Mexican television.
[00:30:18] I want to bring this up because I saw this online that Don Francisco, who is the host,
[00:30:24] a genuine real host, right?
[00:30:25] Wrote this and commented on the YouTube video of this.
[00:30:30] That's awesome.
[00:30:30] And he says, hold on, Brad.
[00:30:32] But it might not be great.
[00:30:35] No, no.
[00:30:35] Either way, it's great.
[00:30:36] He's like, this was a slap in the face to Mexican cult.
[00:30:39] No, this is actually very endearing.
[00:30:41] He says, I thank SNL for bringing back memories of our, how do you say it?
[00:30:44] Sabado.
[00:30:45] Sabado Gigante.
[00:30:47] Sabado Gigante.
[00:30:48] Which was not only a great television program, but was also very important as a meeting point
[00:30:53] for the family and our Hispanic community.
[00:30:55] Thanks to the public, we closed our story almost 10 years ago.
[00:30:59] But we still feel the affection and respect for what we were able to build together.
[00:31:03] That's awesome.
[00:31:04] I thought that show was still on the air.
[00:31:06] I mean, Sabado Gigante.
[00:31:07] I thought it was still like today on the air.
[00:31:08] They probably just still play reruns.
[00:31:10] Oh yeah.
[00:31:10] That's awesome.
[00:31:10] Dan Francisco is not young.
[00:31:13] He's 83.
[00:31:14] So, well, Clint Eastwood's what?
[00:31:16] 105?
[00:31:17] Yeah.
[00:31:17] Still making movies.
[00:31:18] He's vampire.
[00:31:18] Yep.
[00:31:20] But yeah, I really love this one.
[00:31:21] It was really good.
[00:31:22] And you need somebody, this is like, we talked about this a little bit before, where this has
[00:31:28] to be written for Nate Bargazzi.
[00:31:30] Yeah.
[00:31:30] Because you need his awkwardness to play in this.
[00:31:33] Oh, absolutely.
[00:31:33] In order for it to work.
[00:31:34] He's the perfect American dumb guy.
[00:31:36] As much as I love her, probably couldn't do what he did in this sketch.
[00:31:39] Yeah.
[00:31:40] One of the things that I realized actually in this episode, and this kind of shows how
[00:31:46] good SNL can be when they know what to do, because sometimes it can be difficult.
[00:31:51] Sometimes the pieces just don't come together and it doesn't work.
[00:31:53] That's just how a show like this is.
[00:31:55] But with someone like Bargazzi, they're able to see what he does well, what his strengths
[00:32:02] are, and build a show around him where he doesn't have to do much to change his performance.
[00:32:07] Nate Bargazzi is pretty much always very much playing a version of himself.
[00:32:10] Slightly awkward, dry, white guy.
[00:32:14] Kind of dumb.
[00:32:14] And what you either do is you either make it that the awkwardness is part of the comedy,
[00:32:18] you create chaos around him so that he is in the middle of it and he can play it straight
[00:32:24] and it's the chaos that's funny, or you let somebody else do the heavy lifting and he
[00:32:29] still plays what the sketch we'll get to in a little bit with Heidi Gardner.
[00:32:33] And so they just figured out really the best way to utilize Nate as a host without forcing
[00:32:39] him to do things that he wouldn't be good at.
[00:32:41] Right.
[00:32:41] Because it allows him to add to the sketch just by kind of doing what he already does.
[00:32:47] Yeah, exactly.
[00:32:47] It adds his personality.
[00:32:49] Bring the thing that you do to this and make it funny.
[00:32:52] Yep.
[00:32:53] All right.
[00:32:54] Moving on.
[00:32:55] Devil Dogs Drop.
[00:32:56] A pair of EMTs played by Michael Longfellow and Nate Bargazzi decide on what to do with
[00:33:01] a dead guy on a water slide, much to the chagrin of two lifeguards played by Devin Walker
[00:33:06] and new cast member Jane Wickline.
[00:33:10] And really it's the chagrin of one of them because Devin Walker's character, he's pretty
[00:33:14] much all in.
[00:33:15] Yeah.
[00:33:16] Can we have a side conversation, please?
[00:33:18] Yes.
[00:33:20] It's going to be the main conversation, though, I think.
[00:33:22] No, no.
[00:33:23] Let's see.
[00:33:23] You know what, Brad?
[00:33:24] Let's hear Nate out.
[00:33:28] I don't know how to say this.
[00:33:29] Spit it out.
[00:33:31] I am so far not in favor of if we replaced Chloe Trost for Jane Wickline, I don't think
[00:33:41] that was a good trait.
[00:33:42] I think it's too early to say for sure.
[00:33:46] It's a pretty aggressive second episode.
[00:33:48] At the...
[00:33:48] Yeah.
[00:33:49] You would be pissing yourself with nerves.
[00:33:52] You wouldn't be able to say, eh, on screen.
[00:33:56] Okay.
[00:33:56] I'd be freaking out.
[00:33:56] I'd be freaking awesome.
[00:33:57] I'd be freaking awesome.
[00:33:58] Let's give this person a little bit of time before you...
[00:34:01] Okay, okay.
[00:34:02] No, no.
[00:34:02] Before you run them out of New York.
[00:34:04] And at the very least...
[00:34:05] Chloe Trost nailed it.
[00:34:07] But we also...
[00:34:08] But you can't necessarily say that like...
[00:34:10] Because she was singing.
[00:34:11] Yeah.
[00:34:12] Even harder.
[00:34:13] Ben.
[00:34:13] But you can't say that like...
[00:34:14] Bullshit.
[00:34:15] That Jane Wickline replaced Chloe Trost necessarily.
[00:34:18] I know.
[00:34:18] I know.
[00:34:18] Yeah.
[00:34:19] Because you don't necessarily know how that dynamic worked out.
[00:34:22] But Jane Wickline has not been good.
[00:34:24] But I...
[00:34:33] She's super awkward.
[00:34:35] I don't know how that might be.
[00:34:35] Because this is genuine nervousness that is just not...
[00:34:38] She's trying to be awkward.
[00:34:39] She still did an awkward.
[00:34:40] I get it.
[00:34:41] I'm not...
[00:34:41] That's the thing though.
[00:34:42] But that's Michael Longfellow's thing and he actually makes it work.
[00:34:44] I'm not...
[00:34:45] Michaelfellow's not awkward.
[00:34:46] Michaelfellow is dry.
[00:34:47] There's a difference.
[00:34:47] Who's Michaelfellow?
[00:34:49] Michael...
[00:34:49] He's my friend.
[00:34:51] I call him Michaelfellow.
[00:34:53] Longfellow's his stage name.
[00:34:54] Oh, gotcha.
[00:34:55] I gotcha.
[00:34:55] When you're friends...
[00:34:56] Brianfellow's brother.
[00:34:57] When you're friends with Mikefellow as long as I am, you know what to call him.
[00:35:01] No.
[00:35:02] I think that...
[00:35:03] I think it's too soon to know for sure.
[00:35:04] But I...
[00:35:05] I'm not right now.
[00:35:05] I do think that Jane Wickline has a persona that is meant to be genuinely an awkward kind
[00:35:15] of comedian.
[00:35:16] I think that's her natural personality.
[00:35:17] And I do think that there is some nerves there.
[00:35:19] But I also think even if she wasn't nervous, I think that's how she is.
[00:35:25] Let's put a pin in this until we get an update.
[00:35:28] Because we can expound on this then.
[00:35:30] Because I have more to say about her awkwardness in that.
[00:35:33] All right.
[00:35:33] Let's get to the sketch itself.
[00:35:35] This was...
[00:35:36] We wanted...
[00:35:36] Nate was wrong though, right?
[00:35:38] Yes.
[00:35:39] Okay.
[00:35:39] I'm not.
[00:35:40] I never am.
[00:35:41] But...
[00:35:41] Well, you were actually...
[00:35:42] And you were wrong twice.
[00:35:43] Because you said, number one, if they swapped one for that, which is not a thing.
[00:35:48] No.
[00:35:48] But I'm just saying, they got rid of Chloe Trayton.
[00:35:50] And also, second, it's so early.
[00:35:53] It doesn't matter.
[00:35:55] Wow.
[00:35:55] No, it doesn't.
[00:35:56] Because listen, Marcel Hernandez, we knew.
[00:35:59] We knew he was going to be good early.
[00:36:01] In the second episode?
[00:36:02] Yes.
[00:36:03] We'll have to go back and see.
[00:36:04] Yeah.
[00:36:04] We will.
[00:36:05] We'll go to the tape.
[00:36:05] I actually think that that was his first time on Weekend Update when he smashed.
[00:36:09] He killed it.
[00:36:09] Do you remember?
[00:36:10] I don't think it was the second episode.
[00:36:11] No, but do you remember?
[00:36:12] That group, Michael Longfellow included, when they went on Weekend Update, they each had
[00:36:17] a Weekend Update.
[00:36:18] But you can't expect them all to nail it right from the get-go.
[00:36:22] Okay, but this is two episodes in a row where she's super awkward.
[00:36:26] It's the first two episodes on a national, international stage.
[00:36:31] Of her career.
[00:36:32] Yeah.
[00:36:32] And what is she, 19?
[00:36:33] She's so young.
[00:36:34] Yeah.
[00:36:35] She's 25.
[00:36:35] But here's the thing is-
[00:36:37] You know a lot about her, Nate.
[00:36:38] I did, because I'm like-
[00:36:39] You know too much about her, some would say.
[00:36:41] I know she's a Nepo baby.
[00:36:42] I know she got this because of her contacts with Lauren.
[00:36:44] I know that.
[00:36:45] Why?
[00:36:45] Who's the contacts?
[00:36:46] Yeah.
[00:36:46] What?
[00:36:46] Her mom worked at SNL.
[00:36:47] Who's her mom?
[00:36:48] Her mom was Lauren's assistant for years in the 80s and 90s.
[00:36:53] Well, Lauren's just giving away positions, I guess.
[00:36:55] Her dad-
[00:36:56] I mean, she did have a big following on TikTok, though.
[00:36:59] No, she does.
[00:37:00] Yeah, but-
[00:37:01] Definitely didn't earn it by herself, Nate.
[00:37:03] Wow.
[00:37:03] No, but here's the thing.
[00:37:04] For someone who loves Please Don't Destroy so much, I'm not sure why you're complaining
[00:37:07] about Nepo babies.
[00:37:08] I'm not complaining about Nepo babies.
[00:37:10] It sounds like you are.
[00:37:11] It sounds like you are.
[00:37:11] It definitely sounds like you're complaining about Nepo babies.
[00:37:13] Please Don't Destroy, good their first episode.
[00:37:17] They're good.
[00:37:17] Good the first video.
[00:37:18] Do you disagree?
[00:37:19] Yeah, because the awkwardness and the nervousness could be split three ways.
[00:37:22] So maybe the problem is putting her in the sketch.
[00:37:24] Stop putting her in the sketches.
[00:37:25] Oh my goodness.
[00:37:26] Whoa, jeez.
[00:37:27] It's the second episode.
[00:37:28] Just let her spread her wings and fly.
[00:37:30] Let her be an eagle and soar.
[00:37:32] Or if you're on SNL, be good.
[00:37:35] Be good.
[00:37:36] You're on SNL.
[00:37:37] What is going on right now?
[00:37:37] Jane, if you're listening, I'm sorry.
[00:37:39] Yeah, Jane, we actually-
[00:37:40] Listen, yes, you're awkward and a little stilted, and I'll get into it a little bit more
[00:37:43] about your weekday performance, but you know what?
[00:37:45] I still believe you're going to be great.
[00:37:48] This is nervousness.
[00:37:49] You're going to shake it off.
[00:37:49] It's going to be fine.
[00:37:50] Yeah.
[00:37:50] We'll see.
[00:37:51] Nate?
[00:37:51] We'll see.
[00:37:52] Wow.
[00:37:52] All right.
[00:37:53] Talk a little bit about the sketch.
[00:37:54] What did you think of the actual sketch itself?
[00:37:56] So you were the one that told Brad and I, and obviously this is true-
[00:38:00] Because I do the work.
[00:38:00] This came from Michael Lonfellow's stand-up, and it was a stand-up bit that he did that's
[00:38:05] now turned into a sketch.
[00:38:06] Similar to when James Austin Johnson did Lake Beach.
[00:38:09] Yes.
[00:38:09] Yeah.
[00:38:10] This is a very, very funny sketch premise.
[00:38:13] Yes.
[00:38:14] Then you add Brigazzi being the guy who can-
[00:38:18] Again, this is the show being like, oh, Brigazzi would be really good as a guy's like, well,
[00:38:23] I mean, there's a way to do this.
[00:38:25] He, other than, again, Gene Smart could have been in this sketch, but it wouldn't have worked.
[00:38:30] It's the way that he's like, I'm not-
[00:38:32] And again, your idea-
[00:38:33] Yeah.
[00:38:34] Right?
[00:38:34] It's perfect.
[00:38:35] It's the stand-up, right?
[00:38:35] Yes.
[00:38:36] This was almost like him doing this in the stand-up.
[00:38:38] Watching this sketch, I could not believe they didn't take advantage of pairing Nate
[00:38:42] Brigazzi and Michael Longfellow in the first episode that Brigazzi hosted.
[00:38:46] Yes.
[00:38:46] Because that pairing is incredible.
[00:38:49] They are on the same page immediately.
[00:38:51] Yeah.
[00:38:51] They play off each other so well.
[00:38:53] I have another question for you guys.
[00:38:55] This is great.
[00:38:56] Another question.
[00:38:57] Who was the person under the sheet?
[00:39:00] Oh, that's-
[00:39:00] Oh, I know.
[00:39:01] I wish I knew.
[00:39:01] I don't know.
[00:39:02] That's why I'm about to know.
[00:39:03] Played a great dead body, though.
[00:39:05] It's like, I really wonder who had to lay there the whole time.
[00:39:07] It was so-
[00:39:08] And not laugh, because I would have been laughing.
[00:39:10] Yeah, you just see the belly-
[00:39:11] The belly moving.
[00:39:13] But yeah, no, it was just-
[00:39:14] It's really funny.
[00:39:15] When they did the voting and they pan out and the kids are all raising their hands, that
[00:39:19] was great.
[00:39:19] Guys, it's the delivery of Longfellow and Brigazzi's lines that make it so funny, just
[00:39:26] because they're feigning the development of it.
[00:39:31] Gosh, yeah.
[00:39:32] I mean-
[00:39:32] 255 steps?
[00:39:33] I wish there was another way.
[00:39:35] Yeah, just-
[00:39:36] If there were only somewhere else we could do this.
[00:39:38] Let's take a vote, right?
[00:39:39] The vote thing.
[00:39:40] And honestly, he probably would have loved it.
[00:39:44] It's just great.
[00:39:45] And then Devin Walker's like, I want to see what the splash is going to be like.
[00:39:48] Yeah, we all want to see that, but we're not going to say it.
[00:39:50] You don't say it out loud.
[00:39:53] We're not going to get the photo.
[00:39:56] That's just-
[00:39:57] But I know it was good.
[00:39:59] If I'm doing the math here, guys, we've only liked the sketches that have been on so far.
[00:40:04] So far, so good.
[00:40:05] Mm-hmm.
[00:40:06] Yeah.
[00:40:06] I mean, that's pretty impressive so far.
[00:40:08] Yeah.
[00:40:09] All right.
[00:40:09] Moving on.
[00:40:10] Weekend Update with Colin Jost and Michael Che.
[00:40:13] Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che tackle the week's biggest news, including
[00:40:18] Trump returning to the site of his assassination attempt, being released that Trump was scrolling
[00:40:23] Twitter during January 6th, Elon Musk attending a Trump rally and Trump not wanting to release
[00:40:28] his medical records.
[00:40:31] We also will get into this.
[00:40:33] As Ben mentioned, our Weekend Update bit is Jane Wickline singing about partying and being
[00:40:38] someone's plus one.
[00:40:40] Now, let's go to our berdometer.
[00:40:42] Will you please explain it?
[00:40:43] If you're new to the show, welcome.
[00:40:46] Welcome.
[00:40:47] The berdometer is a score from zero to 100 that rates the interaction between Colin Jost
[00:40:53] and Michael Che, how much they're vibing off of each other and really paying attention
[00:40:57] to each other, maybe more than just delivering the jokes directly.
[00:41:00] And we do say that there is like a bonus multiplier if the episode of the Weekend Update is very good,
[00:41:05] then you're going to get a little bump there.
[00:41:07] But it's basically about how much side eye do they give each other?
[00:41:09] How much little like, oh, that was a good one for you.
[00:41:13] Good job.
[00:41:13] Oh, it's a little bit of the back and forth.
[00:41:16] This one, Brad, did you already put it in?
[00:41:19] I did.
[00:41:19] This is a 91 for me, for the Brad-Omer.
[00:41:22] It has to be.
[00:41:22] This is the most interaction I've seen in quite a while.
[00:41:25] And it wasn't just the interaction between the two of them, but also like the camera cuts
[00:41:29] to Jost and Chase still talking.
[00:41:31] Yep.
[00:41:31] You know, that was a lot.
[00:41:32] They were having a ton of fun.
[00:41:33] They're also counting now.
[00:41:35] They're like, you could hear this.
[00:41:37] The first time I've been...
[00:41:38] No, you had...
[00:41:38] Off-camera conversations about what is funny and not.
[00:41:41] That's the second laugh I got, and they're tracking it, and they're doing that to each
[00:41:44] other.
[00:41:45] It's an all-time high.
[00:41:45] I do want to leave some room to grow here.
[00:41:48] So you said 91.
[00:41:49] I'm going to say 90.
[00:41:51] Brad?
[00:41:53] 85.
[00:41:55] What's it going to take to please you?
[00:41:56] What happened to you?
[00:41:57] Who hurt you?
[00:41:57] Here's the thing.
[00:41:58] Why are you so bitter?
[00:41:59] It's also relative, because we only had one Weekend Update segment with which headline
[00:42:05] punchlines this time.
[00:42:06] So we don't get two halves of Jost and Chase joking around together.
[00:42:10] If they had done this and they carried over across two halves, that would be a lot better.
[00:42:14] What does that even mean?
[00:42:15] It means nothing.
[00:42:16] There also wasn't repeat back and forth.
[00:42:20] There was one big back and forth, and then there was a little bit of...
[00:42:24] They were counting their jokes.
[00:42:26] They got laughs.
[00:42:27] Yeah.
[00:42:27] That's three for me.
[00:42:28] Yeah, they kept doing it.
[00:42:30] It was an 85.
[00:42:32] You now have to defend that position, because you just said, there were a couple one-offs.
[00:42:36] No.
[00:42:37] They went back and forth three or four times.
[00:42:39] They were having a good time.
[00:42:40] A few.
[00:42:40] A few.
[00:42:41] With one half of a Weekend Update.
[00:42:43] So if they had done this an entire way through for two different halves, that would be different.
[00:42:46] But this was not as big as the best Weekend Updates, and that's when you get into the
[00:42:50] 90s.
[00:42:50] Is it because you also didn't like the jokes from this thing?
[00:42:52] No, no.
[00:42:53] I thought the jokes were great in this one.
[00:42:56] I give up.
[00:42:57] You know, next time I'm going to be like 50.
[00:42:58] I don't care.
[00:42:59] It's never 50 unless it's bad.
[00:43:01] I don't care.
[00:43:01] We're moving this to the Ben-O-Meter.
[00:43:03] Yeah.
[00:43:03] Thank you.
[00:43:05] Ben-O-Meter.
[00:43:06] Anyway.
[00:43:07] All right.
[00:43:08] So do you guys want to say anything else about the actual Weekend Update?
[00:43:11] No.
[00:43:11] I'm pissed.
[00:43:12] It was really funny.
[00:43:13] Good for you.
[00:43:15] So Jane Wickline was too long.
[00:43:17] Moving on.
[00:43:17] So this is the awkward stuff I'm talking about.
[00:43:21] When you're nervous and awkwardness takes away from the bit because you're stepping on
[00:43:29] the punchlines or somebody else's line, or it's an awkward, like you're flubbing and
[00:43:34] this and that, that's not the kind of awkwardness that you want to see.
[00:43:37] And that did happen quite a few times here where, where she was just off a little bit.
[00:43:41] Yeah.
[00:43:42] And it was because of the nervousness.
[00:43:43] I get it if that's your character and you play it like Kyle Mooney did.
[00:43:47] He was perfect at that, but also very, very stilted and awkward, but never to the fact
[00:43:53] where it was like not purposeful and actually affected the sketch a little bit.
[00:43:57] She's so nervous that that's happening.
[00:43:59] What I'm saying is I, I would be too.
[00:44:01] Yeah.
[00:44:01] Like, let's give her time, but you can't say off the bat like that, that, oh no, it
[00:44:05] was perfect.
[00:44:06] No, not at all.
[00:44:06] Because that's her shtick.
[00:44:08] She's definitely not ready for prime time.
[00:44:09] I don't, I, shut up, Nate.
[00:44:13] Her shtick is not to step on Joe's lines and get a little, no, exactly.
[00:44:16] I, I, I definitely agree with you.
[00:44:18] This was not perfect by any means.
[00:44:19] This was not like the, the performance of a, of a polished comedian by any means.
[00:44:25] But I like the, what was there.
[00:44:27] I do like the, the premise of what she did.
[00:44:30] I like the song.
[00:44:31] I like that it's lo-fi.
[00:44:33] I do think that it does fit her personality.
[00:44:35] I, I think we will find that even if she does get more confident, she does have an, an awkward
[00:44:40] kind of just genuinely awkward delivery.
[00:44:42] But it, it reminded me of, uh, there's a little bit of Sandler here because when Sandler first
[00:44:47] started doing musical stuff, it was like a little bit shy, uh, and a little bit weird.
[00:44:51] But, but, but this also has a little bit of like that alt comedy dynamic that Sandler
[00:44:55] didn't have.
[00:44:56] And so I, I like what's here.
[00:44:58] It's not perfect.
[00:45:00] I think there's definitely room to grow.
[00:45:02] But there's room, but again, she'll get there.
[00:45:04] Yeah.
[00:45:04] Like I, I have faith in like some of us.
[00:45:06] By no means that I think this was bad.
[00:45:08] I, and if you think it was good.
[00:45:10] Yeah.
[00:45:10] I think, I think it was pretty good.
[00:45:12] I don't think it was great by any means.
[00:45:13] But I think that the, the, the, the, the song and the, the, the, the joke, like what she
[00:45:18] was doing, especially as it escalated into being like the plus one of a plus two.
[00:45:22] And then, and like, as it got, what go from there?
[00:45:23] Good stuff.
[00:45:24] The, the, her timing and her, her delivery needs some work, but there's, there's some
[00:45:30] good stuff here.
[00:45:31] Fuck you, Nate.
[00:45:34] I just, I miss when my friends actually appreciate the comedy.
[00:45:39] I wish, I wish my friends would know not to deliver cheesy criticism lines.
[00:45:45] Like she's not ready for prime time.
[00:45:47] But it was a good one.
[00:45:48] That was a pretty good one.
[00:45:49] That was a pretty good one.
[00:45:50] It was a comeback to that.
[00:45:52] Yeah.
[00:45:53] But here's the thing.
[00:45:54] She's not ready for respiratory playing.
[00:45:56] I am.
[00:45:57] So she, she, I've watched some of her TikTok stuff and it's okay.
[00:46:02] Oh, here we go.
[00:46:02] Oh boy.
[00:46:03] Here's more Nate.
[00:46:04] I wanted to see like what.
[00:46:06] What do you have against women?
[00:46:07] Got her famous.
[00:46:08] Well, no, here's what I'm going to say is where's Sarah Sherman been?
[00:46:12] I mean, I don't disagree with that.
[00:46:14] Yo, those are two sides.
[00:46:17] Actually, I wonder if.
[00:46:17] That's a different side of a different point.
[00:46:19] She wasn't even in this episode, was she?
[00:46:20] Yes, she was.
[00:46:21] Was she?
[00:46:21] Where was she?
[00:46:22] She was in Smitty's Burger Garage.
[00:46:23] That's right.
[00:46:24] Okay.
[00:46:25] But.
[00:46:25] She was in Smitty's Burger Garage.
[00:46:27] But, but she wasn't in last episode much either.
[00:46:30] Yeah.
[00:46:30] Right?
[00:46:31] And so, I don't know.
[00:46:33] I just, what if maybe Jane Wickline's best performances are like the Please Don't Destroy
[00:46:38] guys.
[00:46:39] They need to be in front of a video camera.
[00:46:41] Right?
[00:46:42] Maybe.
[00:46:42] Like they need to be edited.
[00:46:44] I guess we'll see after maybe two episodes have come and gone, Nate.
[00:46:48] Give it a little time.
[00:46:49] Okay.
[00:46:50] You guys have been critical of other cast members when they've not been that great.
[00:46:55] Yeah, but not after the second episode, man.
[00:46:57] Well, she's been in a crap load of sketches.
[00:47:00] Yeah, but like bit parts though.
[00:47:01] Come on.
[00:47:02] Okay, but didn't you think she was a little stilted in the last week episode when-
[00:47:07] No, that's what I'm saying though.
[00:47:07] I don't think, I think that her natural personality is somebody who just sounds awkward.
[00:47:15] So why are we putting her in sketches then?
[00:47:16] Because it's making the sketches worse.
[00:47:17] Because she's still funny.
[00:47:18] She still can be funny.
[00:47:20] Was she fun?
[00:47:21] Did she bring comedy to that sketch?
[00:47:23] I will say like-
[00:47:23] It wasn't her job to bring comedy to that particular sketch.
[00:47:26] Put Sarah Sherman in there then.
[00:47:28] Here's the thing.
[00:47:29] But if that character's not supposed to be funny, why would you put Sarah Sherman in that role?
[00:47:32] Because she can play a straight character.
[00:47:33] No, here's the difference.
[00:47:34] I think that this is where I'm siding with Nate.
[00:47:37] On like the Devil's Drop one, you have a better actress.
[00:47:40] Yes, that's what I'm saying.
[00:47:41] You know, because the stilted delivery-
[00:47:43] She was playing a straight person.
[00:47:43] She was, I mean obviously this is still nerves and everything, but she faltered quite a bit
[00:47:48] on like her timing and reading the cue cards and it was very awkward.
[00:47:51] You gotta give her a chance.
[00:47:52] I'm just saying, I agree there though.
[00:47:53] Like if you wanted that sketch to be picture perfect, if that was on SNL 50 and you put
[00:47:57] Sarah Sherman as a straight person doing that role, she would have nailed it and it would
[00:48:02] have been awesome.
[00:48:02] That sketch would never be on SNL 50.
[00:48:04] Oh my God, you know what I mean.
[00:48:05] If the pressure was really on to make sure it was the best it could be, you wouldn't have
[00:48:09] her on that.
[00:48:09] Yeah, but that's the point though, is it's not SNL 50.
[00:48:12] It's the second episode of season 50.
[00:48:14] But it's such a cutthroat place though.
[00:48:17] But they do have standards, but you have to also give them room to figure that out.
[00:48:21] Like I'm sure they'll see, if she continues to not work, then that's one thing, but you
[00:48:25] give them time to figure it out.
[00:48:27] But they got rid of people like Chloe Trost, again-
[00:48:30] I think that Nate just is mad about that.
[00:48:32] I am a little mad about it.
[00:48:33] I'm mad about that too, but one of the things that you don't know is you don't know what
[00:48:36] the dynamic was behind the scenes.
[00:48:38] You don't know if maybe Chloe Trost was maybe getting a little too big for her britches.
[00:48:43] You never know what it's like like that.
[00:48:45] But I'm just saying there were better cast members, and I know probably the bigger ones,
[00:48:50] right?
[00:48:51] Don't want to do the small straight bit parts anymore.
[00:48:55] Right.
[00:48:56] But those are the roles that you do give to those cast members because you want them
[00:49:00] to get used to being on a live program like that.
[00:49:04] See, I think I disagree.
[00:49:06] I think that-
[00:49:07] You can disagree all you want, but that's what you do.
[00:49:09] No, no.
[00:49:09] I think that Ego would have been like, oh no, I'll be in that.
[00:49:13] She's done that before, right?
[00:49:15] Heidi's done that.
[00:49:16] Everybody wants as much stream time as possible.
[00:49:18] So it would be like, oh, I don't want that to be in that sketch because it's only got
[00:49:22] five lines and I'm only a quarter of the-
[00:49:25] No.
[00:49:26] Yeah, I want that.
[00:49:27] You put Heidi in that sketch, right, as the other lifeguard.
[00:49:29] Don't put the image of Heidi in a bathing suit in Ben's head, Nate.
[00:49:33] Yes, that's a winner.
[00:49:34] She could have brought the absurd a little more.
[00:49:37] Like, are you asking me?
[00:49:38] Like, is this what you're suggesting?
[00:49:40] Because Heidi can do that.
[00:49:41] But the other thing is-
[00:49:42] Because she's a better actress.
[00:49:43] But I think that you pick someone like Jane Wickline because she's young and young people
[00:49:47] have lifeguard roles.
[00:49:49] Just a practical casting thing.
[00:49:50] That's fine, but there's still going to be the table read and then you're going to have
[00:49:54] the dress rehearsal and if she was that stilted awkward, you would just replace her with something
[00:49:57] better.
[00:49:58] No, but maybe that's what they want for that character, though.
[00:50:00] Maybe they want someone who is genuinely-
[00:50:02] They're not able to read the cue cards as well?
[00:50:04] Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
[00:50:04] They don't want that, Brad.
[00:50:05] You can't read cue cards either.
[00:50:07] I'm not on SNL.
[00:50:08] You can barely read a book.
[00:50:09] I don't know why you're so defensive.
[00:50:11] Because it's the second episode and give someone a fucking chance.
[00:50:14] Here's the thing is, you can hold to say, you can say, yeah, she's terrible.
[00:50:17] I'm giving her a chance.
[00:50:18] That's fine.
[00:50:19] But she's not terrible, though.
[00:50:21] She has not been good so far.
[00:50:22] So that's where, again, I got to say, she's not good.
[00:50:25] It's okay.
[00:50:26] But you can say, I'm going to give her a chance, though.
[00:50:27] Both of those things can be true.
[00:50:29] She's not good right now.
[00:50:30] I think she's decent.
[00:50:31] I don't think she's great.
[00:50:33] I don't think she's terrible.
[00:50:34] What has she done that's been decent?
[00:50:35] Travis Kelsey read the cue cards a little better than her.
[00:50:38] Travis Kelsey can't read a tire.
[00:50:41] Oh, Travis Kelsey was a thousand times better than her.
[00:50:43] I am sick of this horse shit.
[00:50:48] You know what my Kalsometer says?
[00:50:50] That he did a pretty good job.
[00:50:53] Your Kalsometer is just your penis, and it just gets hard on when you see Kelsey on stage.
[00:50:57] And where's the lie?
[00:51:00] Moving on.
[00:51:02] Smitty's Burger Garage.
[00:51:04] You know what?
[00:51:05] Gene Wickland's funnier than both of you guys.
[00:51:06] I agree.
[00:51:07] Maybe.
[00:51:08] Maybe.
[00:51:08] Still also maybe doesn't deserve to be on SNL.
[00:51:11] The time will tell, Brad.
[00:51:12] There's a lot of funny people that aren't on SNL.
[00:51:14] What are you doing, Donald Trump?
[00:51:16] A lot of people out there saying.
[00:51:18] A lot of people saying.
[00:51:19] A lot of people saying.
[00:51:21] They say Scooby-Doo.
[00:51:23] All right.
[00:51:24] Smitty's Burger Garage, written by Heidi Gardner, Carol Sullivan, Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy.
[00:51:30] Where have you guys been?
[00:51:32] Siblings.
[00:51:33] You're just mad at the world this time.
[00:51:35] I just love these guys.
[00:51:36] I love the please don't destroy guys.
[00:51:38] Actually, I just listened to their episode that was from last year on Pete Holden.
[00:51:42] Also, this is not called Smitty's Burger Garage.
[00:51:44] It's called Mile High Burger Challenge.
[00:51:46] Oh, sorry.
[00:51:47] I thought it was Smitty's Burger Garage.
[00:51:48] I don't know where I got that from.
[00:51:49] Maybe they changed the name.
[00:51:50] I don't know.
[00:51:53] Siblings played by Nate Bargatze, Mikey Day-Boingang, and Sarah Sherman discuss how to help their ailing father during a distracting lunch.
[00:52:02] Whenever the table comes out in a restaurant like that, it's going to be fun.
[00:52:08] But, and again, I've been Captain Complainer.
[00:52:11] I understand this.
[00:52:12] I understand this right now.
[00:52:13] Yeah.
[00:52:14] The microphone issues at the beginning frustrated the hell out of me.
[00:52:18] I don't think that they were, it was something that they could help.
[00:52:20] I think there was some.
[00:52:21] I know they couldn't.
[00:52:22] There was a weird technical tinny like echo or something.
[00:52:25] Did you guys notice it?
[00:52:25] Well, yeah.
[00:52:26] There was a microphone either turned off or.
[00:52:30] Malfunctioning or something.
[00:52:31] Malfunctioning.
[00:52:31] Yep.
[00:52:31] So they had to push up the other, which then was getting the feedback.
[00:52:36] I don't know if you noticed, just a little bit of feedback there because they had to turn up one of the other mics that was not by them.
[00:52:41] It was only for like a split second.
[00:52:43] Because they fixed it.
[00:52:44] Yeah.
[00:52:44] But like it drove me crazy that first couple minutes.
[00:52:47] And it was good to see Sarah Sherman.
[00:52:49] I wasn't sure if they fired her.
[00:52:51] Well, she was in the opening credits.
[00:52:54] Driving the bus.
[00:52:55] Yeah.
[00:52:56] You don't give that drive to someone who got fired.
[00:52:57] Yeah.
[00:53:01] Physical comedy.
[00:53:02] Lisa from Temecula vibes ish stuff.
[00:53:05] It was fine.
[00:53:06] And then it got awesome.
[00:53:07] Right.
[00:53:08] It was.
[00:53:08] I was like, oh, I get the premise here.
[00:53:10] Yeah.
[00:53:10] At first I was like, OK.
[00:53:11] But as it went on, it got funnier.
[00:53:13] And I love and and it wasn't.
[00:53:16] And of course, if you make anybody do what Heidi Gardner had to do to that food on her face, it's going to be funny to a certain level.
[00:53:23] But then their choice to be like still make here.
[00:53:27] I just want to be your silent supporter.
[00:53:28] Yeah.
[00:53:29] Like she's still all in with it.
[00:53:30] And then she actually started like, yeah, put him in a home and leave him there.
[00:53:34] Yeah.
[00:53:34] It just got really weird.
[00:53:35] Like the character changed and it was the funniest thing.
[00:53:38] We watch SNL more closely than most people.
[00:53:41] And I don't know of I probably can't think of many sketches where Mikey Day actually breaks.
[00:53:46] It was tough to get it.
[00:53:48] And it's mainly because of Bowen, not because of Heidi, because he's looking at Bowen.
[00:53:52] Oh, no, no.
[00:53:52] Mikey was definitely breaking because of Heidi.
[00:53:54] He was looking at Bowen and he started to see that's the crack.
[00:53:57] No, no.
[00:53:57] There's he cracks and then he looks over at Heidi and loses it.
[00:53:59] Yeah.
[00:54:00] Because early on there was a couple of close ups on Mikey where he was like, well, when
[00:54:04] he saw Heidi dive into the food.
[00:54:06] It was so good.
[00:54:06] Because they're seeing things we're not, right?
[00:54:08] Yeah.
[00:54:08] Because she's probably trying to be as messy as she can.
[00:54:12] No.
[00:54:12] And she's obviously doing it even when the camera is not on her because she has to keep
[00:54:16] it going.
[00:54:16] But like, yeah.
[00:54:18] I mean, initially her munching down everything is hilarious.
[00:54:21] But then what we love to see escalation is, all right, five minutes.
[00:54:25] You know what that means?
[00:54:26] You can't use your hands.
[00:54:27] And her dramatic slamming her head into the burger.
[00:54:31] It was amazing.
[00:54:32] That's commitment.
[00:54:34] And that spit take was epic.
[00:54:36] That was just a huge, thick burst of milkshake out of her mouth.
[00:54:41] It was insane.
[00:54:42] And just the nuanced stuff.
[00:54:44] Like, wait, that lasagna was this morning?
[00:54:46] Yeah.
[00:54:46] The circling back to lasagna was so good.
[00:54:50] No, the sketch was great.
[00:54:52] I don't know if you noticed, at the very end when they do the snapshot of her picture for
[00:54:56] the challenge, you hear Bo and Yang fully let go his...
[00:55:02] That's the best.
[00:55:02] They were having fun.
[00:55:03] They were having a lot of fun.
[00:55:04] Nate didn't have a ton to do here, but what he did, he was fine with, right?
[00:55:08] He played the straight person.
[00:55:09] Well, my favorite part that he had was early on when she first starts and you just hear
[00:55:15] him go, nine minutes.
[00:55:16] Yeah, he's like, nine minutes.
[00:55:18] Here we go.
[00:55:19] All right.
[00:55:20] We've never been to Hawaii.
[00:55:21] Just thought it'd be a good idea.
[00:55:23] Guys.
[00:55:24] Hawaii's in America.
[00:55:28] This is a groundbreaking episode because this episode brings back something that the three
[00:55:36] of us love, Kissing and...
[00:55:40] Oh.
[00:55:41] Kissing and...
[00:55:42] And SNL Digital Short.
[00:55:44] Yep.
[00:55:44] Oh, yeah.
[00:55:45] When I saw this, I was just like, what?
[00:55:48] I could not believe it.
[00:55:49] Sushi Glory Hole.
[00:55:51] Do you want to know what this was credited as in the actual credits for SNL?
[00:55:55] No.
[00:55:55] Just SGH.
[00:55:56] SGH.
[00:55:58] Two guys played by Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaefer.
[00:56:01] Actually, I did...
[00:56:02] I'm like, is that Akiva?
[00:56:04] Oh, I recognize it.
[00:56:05] Oh, yeah.
[00:56:05] Well, I didn't think...
[00:56:07] I'm like, did they put makeup on James Austin Johnson or something?
[00:56:10] You know, like...
[00:56:11] Because, again, I hadn't seen Akiva.
[00:56:13] Sure.
[00:56:13] I didn't expect him to come back, right?
[00:56:15] Sing out Eating Sushi Through a Glory Hole with Keith Thompson, Maya Rudolph, and Bo and Yang.
[00:56:20] As the executives, James Austin Johnson introduced me to Mikey Day.
[00:56:23] Devin Walker and Chloe Feynman play various people.
[00:56:27] A couple quick comments here.
[00:56:29] This was brilliant.
[00:56:32] Secondly, I mean, Andy Samberg was freaking spitting some rhymes.
[00:56:38] No, I think my...
[00:56:39] I mean, unbelievable.
[00:56:40] Aside from the fact that this is good, great, Lonely Island-level stuff, like, it's right in their wheelhouse.
[00:56:46] It's a catchy song.
[00:56:47] It's got a good rap to it.
[00:56:49] It seems like even in the time since we haven't had a new SNL Digital short, they have evolved their rap skills along with the genre.
[00:56:58] Because that one verse that Samberg does in The Stall, where he does the quick rattling off, even the audience was like, whoa!
[00:57:05] He was fucking great!
[00:57:07] He was the shit rapper.
[00:57:08] Legit rapper.
[00:57:09] Yeah, it was fantastic.
[00:57:10] And on top of that, it's just really funny, too.
[00:57:12] And, like, the thing that kept getting me is that even though you know what the premise of the sketch is, that it's Sushi Glory Hole, whenever they're near the Glory Hole, you're like, is it a penis?
[00:57:22] It's so awkward.
[00:57:22] Is it going to be a penis?
[00:57:24] And then they're like, yeah, because sometimes you're going to get a dick.
[00:57:26] Yeah, and the fact that they did make the fish look fleshy, like, it was so funny.
[00:57:33] He had an app on his phone with all the SGH.
[00:57:35] Oh, my gosh.
[00:57:35] He was like, what the hell is this?
[00:57:36] Yeah, this was such a great return for The Lonely Island.
[00:57:39] I love that they were able to do this.
[00:57:40] I hope they talk about it on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast.
[00:57:44] Maybe they'll save it for later as they go through.
[00:57:46] Because they did mention the week that Sandberg came back for the first episode.
[00:57:52] Because they recorded ahead of time.
[00:57:53] They were talking about it.
[00:57:54] They're like, so you're going to be on SNL.
[00:57:57] Like, it's coming, right?
[00:57:58] And he's like, yeah, unless something happens.
[00:57:59] Like, I don't think it's going to.
[00:58:00] But they didn't really dig into too much.
[00:58:02] They talked a little bit.
[00:58:03] But, yeah.
[00:58:04] So I hope that they end up talking about this.
[00:58:06] Because I really want to know, did they have this in the – not in the bag.
[00:58:09] But did they have – are they been workshopping this idea?
[00:58:11] I hope that they're just working on a new album.
[00:58:12] Because there's – I think it was last year.
[00:58:17] Whenever Digman came out, the animated series on Comedy Central,
[00:58:20] I interviewed the co-creator of that series and Andy Sandberg.
[00:58:23] And I had asked him if there was any chance of them doing another album.
[00:58:28] And he was like, yeah.
[00:58:29] We totally want to.
[00:58:30] It's just a matter of if and when we can do it.
[00:58:32] We've all got kids now.
[00:58:33] No, yeah.
[00:58:34] And so I – and he said something.
[00:58:37] I think it was on one of the Q&A episodes of the Lonely Island Seth Meyers podcast.
[00:58:40] Someone else asked if they were ever going to do another album.
[00:58:43] And Sandberg said that they want to.
[00:58:46] So I think that – I do wonder if they've been working on stuff in the interim.
[00:58:49] And this may be a lead up to them having some new stuff here.
[00:58:53] Sure.
[00:58:53] Ben, what did you think?
[00:58:54] No, it was great.
[00:58:57] I had to go back and watch it a couple times because I was just –
[00:59:00] last night when I saw it, I was just so taken aback by what was happening.
[00:59:06] Yeah.
[00:59:07] I wasn't really paying attention to it.
[00:59:08] I was just happy.
[00:59:09] Yeah.
[00:59:10] You know?
[00:59:10] So then when I went back and watched it again, that – again, that verse.
[00:59:13] You can hear the giddiness of the audience too when they realize what's happening.
[00:59:17] Because at first there's like the SNL Digital Short comes up and everyone's like, wait, what?
[00:59:21] And then you see Sandberg and Keeve walk in and you hear some audience like, oh my God, what's happening?
[00:59:27] Yeah.
[00:59:27] It was well worth the price of admission here.
[00:59:31] They haven't lost a step.
[00:59:32] Yeah.
[00:59:32] It's just a more mature version of them rapping basically.
[00:59:36] This is the first one they've done since 2018.
[00:59:38] Natalie's Rap 2 was the last one that they did on SNL.
[00:59:40] Well, I hope to see a little bit more.
[00:59:41] Welcome back, boys.
[00:59:42] Welcome back.
[00:59:42] Because that was fantastic.
[00:59:43] And maybe with Andy being more involved with the show if –
[00:59:47] Hopefully that's –
[00:59:47] At least for the next month.
[00:59:48] Yeah.
[00:59:48] Yeah, exactly.
[00:59:49] So –
[00:59:50] All right.
[00:59:51] That is the show.
[00:59:51] That's it.
[00:59:52] No, no.
[00:59:52] It's not –
[00:59:53] That's not true.
[00:59:54] There's one more sketch after this.
[00:59:56] Was there?
[00:59:57] Yep.
[00:59:57] Coach Allen.
[00:59:58] Oh, that's right.
[00:59:59] I missed that one.
[01:00:00] Yeah, that's –
[01:00:00] We could just end the show.
[01:00:03] It was all good.
[01:00:04] Because it was only –
[01:00:04] Every sketch was at least good.
[01:00:09] We're done.
[01:00:10] No.
[01:00:10] Coach Allen I think is good.
[01:00:12] It's easy and it's brief, but I think it's fine.
[01:00:15] It's fine.
[01:00:16] It's not good.
[01:00:17] So Coach Allen, since Nate didn't do anything about it.
[01:00:19] I got you.
[01:00:20] I got you.
[01:00:20] Since Nate didn't do anything about it.
[01:00:22] Coach Allen, a football coach played by Nate Bargazzi is upset about his money
[01:00:26] while the other coach, Andrew Smukes, tries to hype his team, played by Marcelo Hernandez,
[01:00:31] Devin Walker, Michael Longfellow, and Emil Wakeham up.
[01:00:36] This sketch was only about two and a half minutes.
[01:00:38] It was a very short one.
[01:00:40] Yeah.
[01:00:42] Bargazzi is owed $20 for the jerseys.
[01:00:45] It's been eight weeks.
[01:00:46] Well, the best thing about this sketch and what made it amusing to me is you've got
[01:00:51] Smukes doing his part of trying to hype the team up and then you keep going back to
[01:00:55] Bargazzi who was like, yeah, I can't believe some of you guys still haven't paid me for
[01:01:00] the jerseys.
[01:01:01] I'm not going to forget about it.
[01:01:02] It was just too one note for me.
[01:01:04] There wasn't any escalation.
[01:01:05] I totally agree.
[01:01:05] That was my favorite line, by the way.
[01:01:07] I'm not going to forget about it.
[01:01:08] I wrote it down.
[01:01:09] And that's, again, but that is Bargazzi's strength.
[01:01:12] Yeah.
[01:01:13] Taking that line and the way that he says it.
[01:01:15] I'm not going to forget about it because he is so good at pointing out what would happen
[01:01:19] in the real world.
[01:01:19] Yeah.
[01:01:20] And I love that.
[01:01:21] He did that in the overall thing.
[01:01:22] Definitely the case.
[01:01:23] Yeah.
[01:01:24] I totally agree.
[01:01:25] It was easy.
[01:01:25] It was one note.
[01:01:26] It was not great by any means.
[01:01:27] It was the weakest sketch of the night.
[01:01:29] But as far as being the quote unquote worst sketch, we've had plenty of times when it
[01:01:34] was actually bad.
[01:01:35] It wasn't a bad sketch.
[01:01:36] Not at all.
[01:01:36] The Charlie XCX sketch from last week, let's say.
[01:01:39] I mean, how would you rate this episode?
[01:01:41] I mean, we pretty much, if that's the worst sketch.
[01:01:44] No, I actually think that this-
[01:01:46] It's going to be hard to beat this one.
[01:01:47] I think this episode was better than his first episode.
[01:01:50] Yeah, there was start to finish.
[01:01:51] Because start to finish.
[01:01:52] Yeah, there were a little bit more-
[01:01:53] Maybe the first George Washington was higher.
[01:01:55] Right.
[01:01:56] But man-
[01:01:56] The monologue was a little better.
[01:01:57] This was really solid all the way through.
[01:01:59] Yeah, because it was consistent and the sketches were all good to great.
[01:02:04] Yeah.
[01:02:04] All A's and B's here.
[01:02:05] Yeah.
[01:02:05] And if Coach Allen is a B minus, then shit, man.
[01:02:09] There are some episodes where we're striving for B's.
[01:02:11] A lot of C's and D's, you know?
[01:02:12] Yeah.
[01:02:13] So-
[01:02:13] I'm all in here.
[01:02:14] This is great.
[01:02:14] It's always a win when you don't hate the cold open.
[01:02:17] Yeah.
[01:02:17] Honestly, that was a B. It was a solid B.
[01:02:19] There were some really good things about the cold open.
[01:02:22] Sketch of the night, was it the digital short?
[01:02:24] The golf.
[01:02:25] No, for me, it was the golf.
[01:02:26] I went with Mile High Burger.
[01:02:28] Really?
[01:02:28] Yeah.
[01:02:29] Really.
[01:02:29] Yeah.
[01:02:30] I ended up-
[01:02:31] I wasn't sure, and the more I thought about it, I was like, yeah, man.
[01:02:34] I just really dug the escalation.
[01:02:35] I thought Heidi went for it.
[01:02:38] I liked framing it with such a serious wraparound of what they're talking about.
[01:02:42] Yeah.
[01:02:43] I liked it a lot.
[01:02:44] I just thought the golf one was so-
[01:02:46] It's not a premise I'd seen before.
[01:02:48] Yeah.
[01:02:48] It was so well done.
[01:02:50] No, it was very good.
[01:02:50] It was very good.
[01:02:50] It's very original.
[01:02:51] Yeah.
[01:02:52] I don't disagree.
[01:02:53] I liked it.
[01:02:53] What about you, Nate?
[01:02:54] I went with Sushi Gloria Hole.
[01:02:56] Okay.
[01:02:56] I just thought it was brilliant.
[01:02:57] I liked it.
[01:02:57] Hey, see?
[01:02:58] Got to be tough.
[01:02:59] There's something for everybody.
[01:03:00] Tough to be in an episode where you get three different great sketches.
[01:03:02] That doesn't rarely happen.
[01:03:03] Usually, we're almost always in agreement.
[01:03:05] This is clearly-
[01:03:06] Favorite cast member?
[01:03:08] MVP?
[01:03:08] MVP?
[01:03:09] Jane Wickline.
[01:03:12] That's fucking funny.
[01:03:14] That's really funny.
[01:03:18] Man.
[01:03:21] I had a hard time with this.
[01:03:23] In that-
[01:03:24] I mean, I forgot to pre-think here, so I'm thinking.
[01:03:27] I think I might give it to Nate.
[01:03:29] I think I might.
[01:03:30] Thank you.
[01:03:30] I think I might, because I look at-
[01:03:33] I had some good high-picks.
[01:03:33] I think it's basically because of Brad's point.
[01:03:36] Like, when SNL is at its best, it writes for the host and lets the host increase the value
[01:03:43] of the sketch by doing what they do and doing it very well.
[01:03:46] Nate Bergazzi delivered his lines in such a way that it was so original and specific to
[01:03:53] his character, but all it did was make everything he did better.
[01:03:56] So I think every sketch was better because of him, and he was in a lot of sketches.
[01:04:00] So I'm going to give it to Nate Bergazzi.
[01:04:01] Yeah.
[01:04:01] See, that's why I wouldn't give it to Nate Bergazzi, though, because for me, when-
[01:04:05] I've said this before.
[01:04:07] No, no, no.
[01:04:08] I've said this before.
[01:04:09] When the host gets the MVP, it's because they go above and beyond even what you expect
[01:04:15] from somebody like that.
[01:04:16] Nate did exactly what you want him to do and what you hope he does.
[01:04:20] Fine.
[01:04:20] Who's your MVP?
[01:04:21] Let me- before you say, here's the hard thing.
[01:04:24] This is why I struggle with it, is there were three or four cast members that all had great
[01:04:30] sketches.
[01:04:31] Heidi Gardner, right, did really well in the Berger sketch.
[01:04:36] Michael Longfellow did great in the EMT sketch.
[01:04:40] Marcel Hernandez did really great in his sketch.
[01:04:43] But I don't know of anybody that did multiple sketches or had a sketch and a weekend update
[01:04:51] bit.
[01:04:52] So I'm going to go with you, Ben, because I think Nate Bergazzi is the only one that-
[01:04:56] Oh, so because you can't make a difficult decision, you're going to agree with Chuck
[01:04:59] a fuck me Dutra over there.
[01:05:00] No, but because if somebody- somebody in order for me to give the MVP needs to have more
[01:05:04] than one solid sketch, right, that they carried that sketch.
[01:05:08] It depends on what the sketch is, which is why I'm giving it to Heidi Gardner for the
[01:05:12] Mile High Berger sketch.
[01:05:13] That's fine, but the reason that this episode was all E's and B's is because Nate Bergazzi.
[01:05:18] I agree with that.
[01:05:19] I agree, but I don't-
[01:05:20] So that makes him the most valuable player, because you take him out of the-
[01:05:22] But you expect the host to do that, and that's why for me, the host has to go above
[01:05:26] and beyond to be the MVP.
[01:05:28] I disagree.
[01:05:29] I agree.
[01:05:29] But you're wrong, so.
[01:05:31] It's Heidi Gardner because she went all in on that burger and just fucking put it all
[01:05:35] over her face.
[01:05:36] One sketch.
[01:05:36] One sketch.
[01:05:36] You'll give-
[01:05:37] Okay, you know what, Nate?
[01:05:38] I want to see you fucking eat a huge burger and a chocolate cherry shake like that, and
[01:05:41] let's see if you're not the MVP of the day.
[01:05:43] Don't tempt me.
[01:05:44] Piece of shit.
[01:05:46] I'm on a weight loss.
[01:05:46] And where's your Heidi Gardner love train, huh?
[01:05:48] Why don't you hop on that thing and come over here where it's nice?
[01:05:51] I like her in everything.
[01:05:53] Apparently not.
[01:05:55] But why is Brett so angry tonight?
[01:05:57] I'm getting sick of your bullshit.
[01:05:58] First, you don't love Jane Wickline.
[01:06:01] Neither do I.
[01:06:02] Then you-
[01:06:03] By the way, I kind of have Ben on my side.
[01:06:05] I'm literally saying, the more you keep talking about it, the more I'm like, shit, Nate's
[01:06:09] right.
[01:06:10] First of all, that's my secret, Nate.
[01:06:11] I'm always mad at Ben.
[01:06:12] So I have to give you some of the wealth, too.
[01:06:15] So no, it's that.
[01:06:16] It's like you're thinking that Nate, oh, Nate will catch you.
[01:06:19] The MVP.
[01:06:20] Yeah, he was fucking great in this episode.
[01:06:21] He's not the MVP, though.
[01:06:23] He was great in more than one sketch, Brad.
[01:06:26] But he's the host.
[01:06:27] He's supposed to be great in every sketch he's in.
[01:06:28] No, that's not at all what happened.
[01:06:30] Yeah, the host is supposed to be good in every sketch, though.
[01:06:34] No, most hosts-
[01:06:34] Oh, they're not?
[01:06:35] They're not supposed to be good in every sketch.
[01:06:36] Everybody's supposed to be good in every sketch.
[01:06:38] Right, but the host especially.
[01:06:39] No, the host is the one you-
[01:06:40] The host is the star.
[01:06:41] The host is the one you give the most grace to because it's so hard for them to come
[01:06:45] in and crush.
[01:06:45] The host is the star.
[01:06:47] And not when it's someone like Nate Borghazi.
[01:06:49] You know they can crush and you expect them to crush.
[01:06:51] Okay.
[01:06:52] I disagree.
[01:06:53] If Adam Driver's coming in to host, what do you think-
[01:06:55] What?
[01:06:56] I think I gave him the MVP last time.
[01:06:57] Yeah, dude, dude.
[01:06:58] He deserved it.
[01:07:00] So did Nate Borghazi.
[01:07:02] I'm sick of this.
[01:07:03] All right.
[01:07:04] Well, hey, in the comments, all I just need you to do is type Ben, if Ben's right, or
[01:07:08] Ben and Nate, if Ben and Nate are right, or Brad, if Brad's right.
[01:07:11] That's all you gotta do.
[01:07:12] And if you think you agree with me, Jay McLean's not been great, let me know.
[01:07:17] Send him a private message.
[01:07:18] We don't need to see that kind of thing.
[01:07:20] If Brad is right that Jay McLean's been the MVP of two episodes.
[01:07:23] No one ever said that.
[01:07:24] No one ever said that.
[01:07:25] Brad said, my favorite cast member of all time, Jane Wickline.
[01:07:29] You literally said that.
[01:07:31] Literally.
[01:07:31] Literally.
[01:07:32] All right.
[01:07:33] Hey, we've got another episode next week.
[01:07:35] Who's the host, Brad?
[01:07:36] Who cares?
[01:07:37] Ariana Grande.
[01:07:38] First of all, no one says her name like that.
[01:07:40] Ariana Grande.
[01:07:42] Ariana Grande will be back hosting the October 12th episode.
[01:07:46] She'll be joined by a musical guest that I forgot.
[01:07:49] Stevie Nicks.
[01:07:50] Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac.
[01:07:53] Who's really chart-topping still.
[01:07:56] Hey, rumors has it that she's gonna be on the film.
[01:07:58] Hey, she's a legend.
[01:07:59] Let her have it.
[01:08:01] Just like the wide window.
[01:08:04] Sing the song, sing the song.
[01:08:05] She's singing.
[01:08:07] Ooh, baby.
[01:08:08] Ooh, say ooh.
[01:08:09] Okay.
[01:08:11] I think the audience has had their fill, guys.
[01:08:13] Fuck you.
[01:08:16] Go flicks yourself?
[01:08:17] Go ahead.
[01:08:18] Ariana Grande will be back.
[01:08:20] She's hosted before, and this is, I think it's her second time hosting, or it's the third
[01:08:24] time?
[01:08:24] Second time, third time?
[01:08:26] She previously made her third musical guest appearance and hosted one time.
[01:08:30] There we go.
[01:08:31] So, second time hosting, and it'll be the third of four episodes.
[01:08:34] So, make sure you come back after that.
[01:08:36] And I think that at some point very, very soon, we'll have a bonus episode for us to
[01:08:43] talk about the Saturday Night Live movie.
[01:08:45] We'll see.
[01:08:46] Once we've all seen it.
[01:08:47] Nate's the one who's dragging his big hog around and can't find time to go into the theater.
[01:08:51] Ben hasn't seen it.
[01:08:52] But Ben has to go see it because we have another podcast appointment to talk about it as well.
[01:08:57] So, he will be seeing it.
[01:08:58] You're the one who's dragging your feet.
[01:08:59] I'm gonna see it.
[01:09:01] When?
[01:09:02] In the future.
[01:09:03] Oh, interesting.
[01:09:04] Can't commit.
[01:09:05] Hey, buddy.
[01:09:05] You're gonna see it on your own time.
[01:09:07] It's fine.
[01:09:07] Thank you.
[01:09:08] Thanks.
[01:09:08] Don't you fucking give him his little baby blanket.
[01:09:10] You have been a pill tonight.
[01:09:12] You've been.
[01:09:13] You've got some going on.
[01:09:14] You've been a bit of a pill.
[01:09:15] Okay, so I'm just trying to give my friend Nate a little grace.
[01:09:18] We're gonna have words.
[01:09:19] Yeah, we're gonna have a sidebar.
[01:09:20] I don't care.
[01:09:21] I'm a jagged little pill.
[01:09:22] All right.
[01:09:31] Dude.
[01:09:32] You know.
[01:09:33] More people are gonna subscribe because of that.
[01:09:34] They're gonna be like, I'm glad someone's finally come out here and telling it.
[01:09:36] Brad's super emo now.
[01:09:38] He's writing really dark poetry.
[01:09:41] Good.
[01:09:44] But again, thank you so much for listening.
[01:09:45] We'll be back next week for another episode.
[01:09:47] Comment in the, or give us some feedback in the comments about what you loved about this episode.
[01:09:52] Any of Brad's opinions that you didn't like, we definitely want to hear those.
[01:09:56] Yes.
[01:09:57] Yeah, we appreciate you.
[01:09:59] Brad, where can people find you online?
[01:10:00] Who cares?
[01:10:01] All right.
[01:10:02] Thank you so much for listening.
[01:10:04] I write new reviews of Saturday Night Live at SlashFilm.com.
[01:10:07] I gave you a chance.
[01:10:07] Yeah, you had your chance.
[01:10:07] On Sundays, the day after the episode airs, I edit the episode, so this all stays in.
[01:10:14] And you will love reading my reviews because they are my opinions that are good.
[01:10:19] All right.
[01:10:20] On behalf of my friend Ben and I, we love you guys.
[01:10:23] Be good to yourself.
[01:10:24] Be good to others.
[01:10:25] Bye-bye.
[01:10:25] Bye-bye.
[01:10:25] Bye-bye.
[01:10:25] Bye-bye.
[01:10:26] Bye-bye.
[01:10:26] Bye-bye.
