[00:00:05] with your host Brad Omen featuring Ben Conowitz and Nate Laus. And here's the podcast.
[00:00:18] Guys, I'm really hoping by season 50 that I moved up from a third tier type cast member
[00:00:26] to second tier. No, it's going to... Like I'm a featured cast member hopefully next
[00:00:30] year. No, because right now we're in the middle of season two so yeah. It's like
[00:00:35] season 50. Like you know it's next year for the SNL and... No, but not for the podcast
[00:00:39] though. Not for us though. Yeah. So yeah. Yay. Yeah I mean come on now. So it's three
[00:00:42] seasons then you moved up to the primary cast right? Yeah. That's how that works
[00:00:45] yeah. And then what if one of us just leaves because we're just tired? Honestly I thought
[00:00:50] about this the other day. Leaving because you're tired? Yeah. No no because the
[00:00:54] weird thing is is that I announced myself as the host first but the host was announced
[00:00:58] last. Yeah. And then... So we should probably, I think everyone's wanting me
[00:01:04] to be announced first. I mean if you think about it technically Nate is the one who
[00:01:07] guides us because he's the one who typically does the notes. The last two
[00:01:10] episodes including this one, it's me so Nate's not doing anything anymore. He's
[00:01:15] just worthless. Drinking a beer. But we have come to the end of season 49 of
[00:01:23] Saturday Night Live. This is the last episode of the season and the
[00:01:28] next season will be the milestone 50th season happening sometime this fall. And
[00:01:34] to close us out we had Jake Gyllenhaal, star of the recent Roadhouse remake and
[00:01:42] he also has a new Apple TV Plus series, some legal drama. I don't know. We
[00:01:47] talked about that a little off the air. What is he plugging? It can't be
[00:01:50] Roadhouse 2 already but I mean Roadhouse 2 is happening now. Yeah it is
[00:01:53] funny though because I didn't necessarily think about this but I do
[00:01:57] wonder if they did ask some other people and they just they passed because either
[00:02:01] they're too busy with what's going on or because they do want to wait until the
[00:02:04] 50th season. There was part of that I'm like I bet there is some little truth
[00:02:08] there. Their agents are like nope we're not doing... You know we're waiting
[00:02:11] till the 50th. Yeah. You've got this other big project coming up next year
[00:02:14] we're gonna wait. I do slightly agree with that but at the same time this
[00:02:19] is such a big deal to host. It really is. Of course. It's the one thing
[00:02:22] that you still can do that is you know people watch the Super Bowl every
[00:02:26] year. People tune in to live television events and so SNL is one of
[00:02:31] those things where you don't pass unless you are truly an A-lister that
[00:02:35] SNL is begging you to do it right? Yeah. Like if Tom Cruise for
[00:02:40] the first time ever is gonna host he's gonna do it in season 50 not
[00:02:43] season 49. Gosh that would be awesome. Right? No. No. Shut up Nate. No.
[00:02:48] Somehow Chris Evans takes a bunch of Xanax and he can do it. I'm okay
[00:02:52] with Chris Evans. I would love that. He will never do it. He'll never do it. Is he ever
[00:02:55] hosted? No. No. He specifically said... Horrible anxiety. Yeah he specifically said he won't and he
[00:02:59] can't bring himself to do it because yeah he makes him very anxious.
[00:03:02] Yeah. Captain America. Can't handle it. Can't handle it. That's okay you know
[00:03:08] what? That's okay. Saturday Night Live no cap. Wow. Wow. So the kids are saying
[00:03:14] years ago. Can we talk a little bit about because our other podcast Go Flix
[00:03:19] yourself. We've talked about Jake Gyllenhaal in detail. Do you guys love
[00:03:24] Jake Gyllenhaal still? Yes. I've never loved Jake Gyllenhaal. Yes. No no I think
[00:03:29] he's a very good actor. I like him and stuff. I think he's
[00:03:32] given some great performances but he's not one of the... He's not an actor
[00:03:34] where like oh fuck Jake Gyllenhaal is in. I gotta see it bro. I look at a film
[00:03:42] especially a thriller or an action film and if he's in the cast I'm
[00:03:46] definitely more likely to see it. No. Really? No. Yeah for me he really does
[00:03:51] turn the page for me. No not for me. Yeah. What's your favorite Gyllenhaal
[00:03:55] movie? Oh god Source Code. See that sounds like a shitty guy. Source Code is actually a pretty good movie. Prince of
[00:04:02] Persia, The Sands of Time. Bubble Boy. I do love me some Bubble Boy. City Slickers.
[00:04:07] Oh man yes City Slickers. It's Brokeback Mountain right? My favorite
[00:04:12] Gyllenhaal movie. Night Call. Prisoners. Yeah Prisoners is pretty great although I
[00:04:20] think I'm not sure he's the best part of Prisoners. No just like the best
[00:04:23] movie that he's in is that. I think. In my opinion. I don't know Ambulance.
[00:04:27] Ambulance is his performance there. Are you serious? He is unhinged. We love Ambulance in this house.
[00:04:33] In this podcast we love Ambulance. What about Jarhead? Jarhead's fine you know. So Jarhead to me and this is not our Go
[00:04:42] Flicks Yourself podcast but I will say watching Jarhead they were trying to capture the mundane of the war and they did that
[00:04:50] but making a movie about the boring parts of war is tough sometimes. Even though it's a wonderfully shot movie
[00:05:00] and a well acted movie not a lot going on there so it's really hard to like say like man Jarhead my favorite movie.
[00:05:06] And plus I actually think that Generation Kill ended up doing what Jarhead did a lot better which is an HBO series.
[00:05:13] That's very good. No Jake Gyllenhaal season 49 episode 20 to wrap things up and you want to get right into it?
[00:05:23] Yeah let's jump into it. This was hosted by Jake Gyllenhaal and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter.
[00:05:28] I don't know if you guys know this but some of the internet was in a bit of a tizzy because of this. Do you guys know why?
[00:05:34] I don't know who that person is she's very nice. So Sabrina Carpenter has recently been opening for Taylor Swift on the international leg of her eras tour.
[00:05:44] Okay. And famously Jake Gyllenhaal is the subject of Taylor Swift's All Too Well. Oh my word. Yep. Who hasn't dated Taylor Swift?
[00:05:53] Me unfortunately. I know but the red. I had a quick fling. Ben I did. Quick fling in 2017. Yeah. But like.
[00:06:02] That was her slum in it era. It seems so silly. Actually it was instead of eras it was baras.
[00:06:07] I look like a gay bear. But you know I was familiar with Sabrina Carpenter before she ventured on her pop career because she was actually one of the co-stars of Girl Meets World.
[00:06:19] Which was a Disney Channel series that was a spin off. Red does still watch all of the Disney series.
[00:06:25] But I specifically went on my way to watch Girl Meets World because it was a sequel series to Boy Meets World and it brought back all of the original cast from Boy Meets World in adult roles.
[00:06:33] Topanga? Yeah. Followed Ben Savage's daughter. And Ben Savage's daughter's best friend was played by Sabrina Carpenter and she was very funny.
[00:06:41] Now though her like entire vibe is different and she's like this sexy pop star and everything so it's weird.
[00:06:47] Did she also act still or no? I don't think so. If she is it's not. Well she did tonight. She might have been in something like a couple years ago.
[00:06:55] She's not doing it nearly as often as she used to though I don't think. She's very cute.
[00:06:59] Yes so let's start off with the summer of Trump. The cold open that we were all so excited and eagerly waiting to see.
[00:07:07] This is Donald Trump played by James Dawson Johnson of course and he holds a press conference as he is one to do after every single court appearance.
[00:07:14] Where he's outside of the Manhattan courthouse and introduces some of his supporters who have been popping in to see how he's doing during a porn trial.
[00:07:23] And we have Heidi Gardner, Devin Walker and Michael Longfellow also appearing in this set. Guys how disappointed were you in this one?
[00:07:32] I will say it again watching James Dawson Johnson do Trump is a masterful impression.
[00:07:39] There were a couple things that he did that were just fantastic little turns of phrases that he does.
[00:07:47] Little subtle physical bits that Donald Trump does and he is a master at this. He's so good at it.
[00:07:54] I often wonder because obviously Lauren doesn't like when they go off cue cards and they're supposed to stick to it.
[00:08:01] But with that impression specifically I feel like maybe he's just so good at it that it comes off naturally.
[00:08:06] I wonder if every single aspect of his rambling is scripted on the cue card.
[00:08:10] So let me say this. He's done this impression a lot in season 49.
[00:08:14] I thought it was his best Trump impression he's ever done.
[00:08:19] There were some things in there that were very good. The sketch just wasn't that good.
[00:08:22] It's just not good. He was fantastic. He was always fantastic.
[00:08:26] But this one I thought was particularly good. He had a couple things in there that I thought he...
[00:08:30] There were almost new things that he was working on. But jeez Louise it just wasn't good.
[00:08:34] Yeah I just don't care when these things happen now.
[00:08:38] It's almost like I immediately half tune out.
[00:08:41] I'm just like great can't wait to hear what slight variations on real Trump's insanity that they do this week. Fun.
[00:08:47] They feel beholden to it for now.
[00:08:51] It's an election year. Blah blah blah.
[00:08:54] But again they're just so much better when they choose any other path.
[00:08:58] I implore, I implore SNL to get back to anything but the political cold open.
[00:09:04] Well it's an election year so don't count on it buddy.
[00:09:07] And we start back in October so you know.
[00:09:10] Yeah sure.
[00:09:11] For six weeks that's all we're gonna have.
[00:09:13] I cannot fucking wait.
[00:09:16] Alright so we get to the monologue. Jake Gyllenhaal he returns to Saturday Night Live to host for his third time.
[00:09:22] Do any of you guys remember the first time that he hosted Saturday Night Live?
[00:09:26] No.
[00:09:27] It was back in January of 2007.
[00:09:31] Whoa.
[00:09:32] That was the first episode of the year.
[00:09:34] 2007?
[00:09:35] 2007.
[00:09:36] Do you remember a certain famous SNL digital short that he starred in at the time?
[00:09:42] No.
[00:09:43] Jake Gyllenhaal.
[00:09:46] Was he in Iran?
[00:09:48] No.
[00:09:49] No.
[00:09:50] No right then.
[00:09:51] He was in Laser Cats 2.
[00:09:53] Oh yeah.
[00:09:55] I love Laser Cats.
[00:09:56] Played the villain of Laser Cats 2.
[00:09:58] And then he hosted again just back in 2022 so it's only been a little bit since he hosted.
[00:10:04] 15 years?
[00:10:05] Yeah 15 years between his first and second hosting stints.
[00:10:07] But obviously he's back now and he decided to talk about starring in Roadhouse briefly.
[00:10:14] Made some jokes about Conor McGregor which were perfect you know because he's scary as fuck.
[00:10:19] And crazy.
[00:10:21] But the bulk of this was another musical number because there were some jokes made about the
[00:10:26] fact that he's hosting the season finale of season 49 and that it might have been
[00:10:31] nice to host the season premiere of season 50.
[00:10:33] But isn't the end of season 49 technically the first episode of season 50?
[00:10:38] No not really.
[00:10:40] So they did a whole song of Boys to Men's End of the Road.
[00:10:44] A cover replacing the lyrics.
[00:10:46] A nice fun parody bringing in Kenan Thompson and Devin Walker and Punky Johnson and Eggo Wodum.
[00:10:51] And Devin Walker wearing the Boys to Men glasses was just a chef's kiss.
[00:10:55] By the way I do need to, I just looked up on my phone Jake Gyllenhaal had a cameo in Iran so far away.
[00:11:01] Did he really?
[00:11:02] He did.
[00:11:03] Oh interesting.
[00:11:04] Yeah I just had to look it up but that's why my brain linked those two.
[00:11:07] I don't think I've seen Iran so far away since like.
[00:11:09] First of all if you're listening after the podcast do yourself a favor.
[00:11:14] It's one of the best.
[00:11:15] I remember Adam Levine in it.
[00:11:17] Yeah but Jake Gyllenhaal has a cameo as himself.
[00:11:20] Interesting.
[00:11:21] Yep.
[00:11:22] I'll have to go look at that.
[00:11:23] So there you go.
[00:11:24] Alright well there you go.
[00:11:25] So yeah.
[00:11:26] Time to monologue.
[00:11:27] How many times did you guys slow dance to this song when you were in middle school or high school?
[00:11:31] Oh middle school dances at the VFW.
[00:11:34] The VFW?
[00:11:36] How old are you?
[00:11:37] When did you go to school?
[00:11:38] The 1960's?
[00:11:39] 50's?
[00:11:40] No I went to school in a very rural area, a rolling prairie.
[00:11:43] And so we had our middle school dances.
[00:11:45] I mean for international listeners the town was called Rolling Prairie.
[00:11:49] Just put those two words together.
[00:11:51] Rolling Prairie.
[00:11:52] Named after rolling prairies that you can see in the north.
[00:11:58] So yeah we had dances at the VFW and I danced to a lot of boys and men songs and thought
[00:12:07] this girl I'm going to be with forever.
[00:12:10] This is the height of romance.
[00:12:12] And then another.
[00:12:15] So that's on the Boys and Men 2 album and it would be like I'll make love to you.
[00:12:20] I'm like 12 or 13 dancing to this song with Ben's cousin by the way.
[00:12:25] And he's singing it right into her ear.
[00:12:27] Oh yeah it was just like.
[00:12:29] The teachers just walk by.
[00:12:31] No no.
[00:12:32] Leave room for the Holy Ghost.
[00:12:34] There's another song on that one.
[00:12:35] Wait till the water runs dry.
[00:12:37] Do you remember that one?
[00:12:38] Oh yeah.
[00:12:39] Oh that was just an album man.
[00:12:40] That was some bangers.
[00:12:41] The kids call it a banger.
[00:12:44] So also I thought that Jake Gyllenhaal was wearing a shirt that was going to be ripped away for something else.
[00:12:52] No just a dumb puffy shirt.
[00:12:53] So it's just a normal shirt that the back wasn't tucked in but the front was.
[00:12:57] Yeah I think it's a fashion choice.
[00:12:59] I don't love it.
[00:13:00] I hated it.
[00:13:01] Yeah I really thought he was going to like the wires were going to pull it to the side and something else was going to go.
[00:13:05] No it looked like he was wearing a shirt that also doubled as a parachute in elementary school.
[00:13:09] It's true like again this is it looked like a 1990s.
[00:13:13] Yeah.
[00:13:14] Like the Lonely Island guys were making fun of that.
[00:13:16] Yeah it was weird.
[00:13:17] It was definitely weird.
[00:13:18] I didn't like it.
[00:13:19] I'm not a fashionable male.
[00:13:20] Neither am I.
[00:13:21] But I thought it looked stupid.
[00:13:22] But I know what I don't like.
[00:13:23] Yep.
[00:13:24] I don't like that shirt.
[00:13:25] Yeah big back puff shirt is not one of them.
[00:13:26] Big back puff shirt.
[00:13:27] But I thought Gyllenhaal was great in his style.
[00:13:29] Oh yeah he's excellent.
[00:13:30] I thought the whole thing was really fun.
[00:13:31] I will say this though and I think that this carried over throughout the entire episode though.
[00:13:37] I thought that he...
[00:13:38] Do you hear the rain?
[00:13:39] It's coming on my parade.
[00:13:40] I thought that he was pushing it too much.
[00:13:44] Just a little too much.
[00:13:45] Like it felt like he was like really trying.
[00:13:48] Like oh I'm going to fucking like shoot for the moon.
[00:13:50] But don't you want that?
[00:13:51] Not like this.
[00:13:52] I don't like a lot of effort.
[00:13:54] No no this felt like he was trying too hard and I don't know if it's because
[00:13:58] maybe maybe he's not like a like the best singer and so he felt like he really
[00:14:03] needed to like take it to that level.
[00:14:04] I mean this is a boys to men song but you belt out though.
[00:14:07] Yeah like I feel like...
[00:14:08] I don't know because I felt this vibe from him throughout several sketches in the
[00:14:13] evening where I felt like he was trying too hard to be funny and when you think
[00:14:16] about people like Adam Driver and Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone they're not
[00:14:20] pushing it you know unless the sketch really calls for it.
[00:14:23] And Jake Gyllenhaal felt like he was pushing it when like it didn't
[00:14:26] necessarily need to be pushed to like that level.
[00:14:29] You know what I mean?
[00:14:30] I mean I can see like thinking back through the sketch where sketches where he
[00:14:33] was you know well we can talk about them as they come through.
[00:14:37] But yeah I still very much enjoyed the monologue.
[00:14:40] I thought the monologue though I disagree with you there because that's
[00:14:44] something that I think you go for as the host and I was fine with it.
[00:14:47] I loved it.
[00:14:48] It was bombastic.
[00:14:49] It was fun.
[00:14:50] The song.
[00:14:51] And he hit his cues and everything.
[00:14:54] Yeah he was charismatic.
[00:14:55] I thought it was great.
[00:14:56] Alright so I think that's a good point.
[00:14:59] Alright the next sketch.
[00:15:01] Dad has a cookie.
[00:15:03] A young man, Andrew Dismukes just wants to get permission to propose to his
[00:15:07] girlfriend Chloe Trost from her father Jake Gyllenhaal but he ends up being
[00:15:11] forcefully recruited into lying about who ate one of his wife's
[00:15:15] fresh baked cookies with Heidi Gardner playing the wife.
[00:15:18] So if there was some more distance between this and the Ryan Gosling one
[00:15:25] I think I would have liked it better but I'm like this is too close.
[00:15:28] And this was one where I felt like Gyllenhaal was pushing too hard.
[00:15:32] I mean he clearly went way over the top but then at the same time if you're
[00:15:38] that close on the heels of the Gosling one.
[00:15:41] You added something different.
[00:15:42] Exactly so I'm not sure that I blame him.
[00:15:44] Yeah I don't know it's a tough position and that's why I felt weird
[00:15:48] that they did this one right after like with that one being not so far away.
[00:15:51] In my head I'm like do these expire at the end of the season?
[00:15:54] Yeah Andrew Dismukes playing the same character.
[00:15:56] Right Dismukes is leaving and they just need to get it in?
[00:15:59] They better not.
[00:16:00] But it was solid for the most part.
[00:16:03] I still laughed quite a bit.
[00:16:04] I still enjoyed it you know him calling Dismukes a bitch was funny.
[00:16:09] I did like the escalation twist of like them like wait a minute you're
[00:16:13] allergic to peanuts.
[00:16:14] Yeah now that was great and honestly the physical comedy there where
[00:16:17] Chloe Trost stabs him and he holds it.
[00:16:20] It was really good.
[00:16:21] And Gyllenhaal putting his fingers down his throat.
[00:16:23] There was some good stuff there too but yeah it did feel like you
[00:16:25] was too close on the heels of the Gosling sketch.
[00:16:28] I felt these types of sketches feel very Tim Robinson to me.
[00:16:32] Yeah that's fair.
[00:16:33] Like they're just kind of there's a lot of insanity and silliness there.
[00:16:37] Sure.
[00:16:38] But I thought Jake Gyllenhaal particularly was good in this.
[00:16:41] I didn't mind the over the top stuff because again what do you do
[00:16:44] you know the Ryan Gosling one was more heavy whisper you know like
[00:16:49] I need to get out of here.
[00:16:51] Yeah still so Gyllenhaal just does it out loud and sure.
[00:16:55] I mean that's what you do.
[00:16:56] Maybe.
[00:16:57] I don't know.
[00:16:58] I would have played differently.
[00:17:00] I do want to point out to you again because we are recording this
[00:17:03] on Sunday getting all the details about who wrote what sketch is
[00:17:07] not necessarily as good his job like Natives especially because since
[00:17:11] this was the season finale everybody was partying until five or six
[00:17:14] in the morning and was definitely hungover.
[00:17:16] So we're not getting a lot of those details listeners.
[00:17:19] I think for our listeners they don't publish who writes a sketch.
[00:17:23] The writers have to publish it essentially.
[00:17:25] They have to put it on their Instagram typically not even on
[00:17:28] their Instagram like actual post.
[00:17:30] It's in their Instagram stories stories.
[00:17:32] And so there's there's people online that call it we will look at it
[00:17:36] like we try to find as well.
[00:17:38] But like you said oftentimes it doesn't come out until Monday.
[00:17:42] Indeed the next sketch we have is a pre-recorded sketch.
[00:17:46] Scooby Doo and the mystery of the shadow phantom written by Ryan Spears.
[00:17:51] I don't know if he's the sole writer but he was definitely one of
[00:17:53] the writers.
[00:17:54] Things go off the rails as Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and
[00:17:58] Scooby Doo played respectively by Jake Gyllenhaal,
[00:18:01] Sabrina Carpenter, Sarah Sherman, Mikey Day and Andrew Dismukes
[00:18:04] quickly solve another mystery but accidentally take things a step
[00:18:08] too far when they reveal who the real villain is.
[00:18:11] James Austin Johnson also appears as Old Man Franklin and Kenan
[00:18:14] Thompson appears as a cop.
[00:18:16] What did you guys think of this?
[00:18:18] So originally I thought it was it was pretty funny.
[00:18:22] I saw some backlash online about this being ripped off of
[00:18:25] something else.
[00:18:26] So can you speak to that Brad?
[00:18:28] Yes.
[00:18:29] So there's this website called Nerdist.
[00:18:31] This is the website that was founded by Chris Hardwick back
[00:18:33] in the day but now it's you know owned by like a
[00:18:35] corporation and everything.
[00:18:37] And they have a have a division that occasionally does
[00:18:40] sketches and like trailer remixes and stuff like that.
[00:18:44] And so there is an entire Scooby Doo sketch that does at
[00:18:48] least for the has basically the exact same premise of the
[00:18:51] first half of the Scooby Doo sketch where they solve a
[00:18:54] mystery.
[00:18:55] But then they really rip off the face.
[00:18:57] They really rip off the face and that's the that's the
[00:18:59] bit.
[00:19:00] It escalates from there because we get what essentially
[00:19:02] turns into a sequel to the Christmas Carol sketch
[00:19:04] including the Apple tag at the end.
[00:19:06] And so it splits there but like the premise is yeah it
[00:19:10] is exactly the same.
[00:19:11] So it's one of those things where this is such a common
[00:19:14] thought from a comedian's standpoint.
[00:19:16] What if you really ripped off the real face?
[00:19:18] I mean I've thought of that.
[00:19:20] Right.
[00:19:21] So so do you blame SNL?
[00:19:23] No because I mean there's no guarantee that they saw
[00:19:26] that.
[00:19:27] I'm going to guess Sarah Sherman had something to do
[00:19:29] with the sketch as well.
[00:19:30] Maybe but but it also skews so close to that
[00:19:33] Christmas Carol sketch with Steve Martin and Martin
[00:19:35] Short that it just feels kind of like SNL like a
[00:19:37] typical thing like they've done sketches where like
[00:19:39] the surprise is something gory and stuff like that
[00:19:41] before.
[00:19:42] This is not also the first time this has happened.
[00:19:44] This happens actually quite often where because
[00:19:46] there's so many sketches that happen online now
[00:19:49] right.
[00:19:50] Tick tock and YouTube and there's sketches being
[00:19:54] done by anyone like lots of people make sketches
[00:19:57] and when something looks something similar to
[00:20:00] something online a lot of people start
[00:20:02] questioning did they steal it.
[00:20:04] But as Ben just said it's not a surprise.
[00:20:07] It's not a surprise.
[00:20:08] It's not a surprise.
[00:20:09] It's not a surprise.
[00:20:10] It's not a surprise.
[00:20:11] It's not a surprise.
[00:20:12] It's not a surprise.
[00:20:13] But as Ben just said just because the idea looks
[00:20:16] the same even if it's actually quite the same
[00:20:18] it does not mean that it was stolen because
[00:20:21] there's so many sketches.
[00:20:22] I give them especially when it's something
[00:20:24] online video content especially when it's
[00:20:26] something so rudimentary like the Scooby Doo
[00:20:29] has been around since the 60s.
[00:20:31] How many people have thought that thought.
[00:20:33] Yeah.
[00:20:34] That's not necessarily original.
[00:20:36] I don't think that they would have thought
[00:20:38] that they would have made a comic or
[00:20:40] something else where they did the same
[00:20:42] damn thing.
[00:20:43] And I don't think the Nerdist ripped them
[00:20:45] off either.
[00:20:46] Right.
[00:20:47] When it's something that is when it's
[00:20:49] something that is very unique and not
[00:20:51] part of the pop culture zeitgeist in the
[00:20:54] first place and then it gets ripped off
[00:20:56] that's obviously a lot harder to say OK did
[00:20:58] they really come up with the same thing.
[00:21:00] But I do give them a pass here because
[00:21:02] I mean who hasn't had that thought.
[00:21:04] The animation for Scooby Doo is
[00:21:06] particularly impressive considering how
[00:21:08] fast they get something like this done.
[00:21:10] I thought so too.
[00:21:11] Especially since this was obviously not
[00:21:13] a sketch that they could have sat on
[00:21:15] because it has Gyllenhaal and Sabrina
[00:21:17] Carpenter in it.
[00:21:18] So what was not as impressive is
[00:21:20] I feel like they should have gotten
[00:21:22] someone who is better at doing a
[00:21:24] Scooby Doo impression because the voice
[00:21:26] of Scooby sucked.
[00:21:27] Sorry Andrew Smukes but it was not
[00:21:29] your best work.
[00:21:30] Now do they do that because they need
[00:21:32] to be in the same place.
[00:21:33] I mean I can't because otherwise you
[00:21:35] have to find somebody else and pay them
[00:21:37] probably you know.
[00:21:38] That's fair.
[00:21:39] But I don't know about you guys but
[00:21:41] did this sketch unlock anything new
[00:21:43] inside your brain as far as I don't
[00:21:45] know certain fetishes or anything like
[00:21:47] that.
[00:21:48] What do you want to go on.
[00:21:51] You want to just talk a little bit.
[00:21:53] I just like it like because no I
[00:21:57] was always I mean I've always been
[00:21:58] a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal now I look
[00:22:00] at him and it's like man yeah I'm
[00:22:01] hard for Fred.
[00:22:02] Like if there was ever any other
[00:22:03] videos that had Sarah Sherman and
[00:22:05] Sabrina Carpenter as Daphne and Velma
[00:22:07] I'm like I wouldn't be upset about
[00:22:09] it you know.
[00:22:10] Sarah Sherman is gorgeous.
[00:22:12] Yeah she really is.
[00:22:13] She's just a lovely lovely person in
[00:22:15] the first place.
[00:22:16] She plays these obviously insane
[00:22:17] characters but she's beautiful.
[00:22:18] She's a wonderful person.
[00:22:19] I did have to look up Sabrina
[00:22:21] Carpenter because I'm like because
[00:22:23] I didn't know what she looked like
[00:22:24] and I'm like oh.
[00:22:26] Save.
[00:22:27] Yeah she's she's of course a very
[00:22:30] very nice looking young young lady.
[00:22:33] How kind of you Ben.
[00:22:35] What is she isn't she like 15.
[00:22:37] It seems like she's so young.
[00:22:39] No I'm pretty sure she's like in
[00:22:40] her mid 20s.
[00:22:41] Yeah they're tiny little babies.
[00:22:42] I mean Nate's looking it up so he
[00:22:44] can feel alright.
[00:22:45] So he can sleep at night.
[00:22:46] I feel a little bit like a creep right now.
[00:22:48] Love to sleep at night tonight please
[00:22:49] tell me she's 32.
[00:22:50] She is 25.
[00:22:51] Okay that's literally mid 20.
[00:22:53] Not as bad not as bad.
[00:22:54] All right the next sketch
[00:22:55] Beautiful Girls.
[00:22:57] In this parody of the Stephen
[00:22:58] Sondheim musical Follies I bet
[00:22:59] you didn't know that.
[00:23:00] I did not.
[00:23:01] A couple Heidi Gardner and Kenan
[00:23:02] Thompson go to see Billy Harper
[00:23:04] played by Jake Gyllenhaal and his
[00:23:05] beautiful girls Ago Wodum
[00:23:07] Sheriff Sherman and Chloe Fineman
[00:23:09] but this time he also has a
[00:23:11] parade of beautiful boys played by
[00:23:13] Bowen Yang Andrew Dismukes James
[00:23:15] Austin Johnson Marcello Hernandez
[00:23:16] Michael Longfellow and Devin
[00:23:17] Walker with Chloe Trost appearing
[00:23:19] as a waitress selling cigarettes.
[00:23:21] Just something you miss these days.
[00:23:23] What did you guys think about
[00:23:24] beautiful boys.
[00:23:25] I thought it was hilarious.
[00:23:26] I didn't see it coming.
[00:23:27] Yeah that's why I liked it so
[00:23:29] much is because when I was like
[00:23:30] oh this is going to be a pretty
[00:23:31] rote premise that I've seen a
[00:23:32] thousand times.
[00:23:33] Nope didn't see that coming at
[00:23:34] all.
[00:23:35] I thought it was hilarious.
[00:23:36] I loved it.
[00:23:37] Yeah so I initially did not
[00:23:39] know that this was a parody of
[00:23:40] Follies until I saw something
[00:23:42] online about it.
[00:23:43] But it's even without if you
[00:23:46] don't know that you don't miss
[00:23:47] anything because it feels like
[00:23:49] it felt it feels like this
[00:23:50] strange combination of beautiful
[00:23:51] boys and beautiful girls.
[00:23:52] It feels like it felt it feels
[00:23:53] like this strange combination of
[00:23:55] the Don Nese Lawrence Welk
[00:23:57] sketches with Kristen Wiig as
[00:23:59] the woman with the baby hands
[00:24:01] and the giant forehead and the
[00:24:02] snaggletooth.
[00:24:03] And funnily enough.
[00:24:05] No say more.
[00:24:06] The landscape service sketch
[00:24:08] from last week with Maya
[00:24:10] Rudolph by having all of the
[00:24:11] awkward boys be like the
[00:24:14] beautiful boys.
[00:24:15] And so like just the
[00:24:17] combination of just having them
[00:24:18] be vaguely vaguely weird
[00:24:20] and like the the the cheeky
[00:24:22] double entendre sexualization
[00:24:24] you know like doing the almost
[00:24:25] rhyming with with cock and dick
[00:24:27] and stuff like that.
[00:24:28] Yeah it was just really really
[00:24:29] funny.
[00:24:30] It was just funny.
[00:24:31] And also the performance that
[00:24:33] this was the one where
[00:24:34] Gyllenhaal was like OK this
[00:24:35] is great.
[00:24:36] This is like where you need it.
[00:24:37] Like it kind of felt like he
[00:24:40] was doing like a little bit of
[00:24:41] like music man from John
[00:24:43] John Mulaney in the Sack
[00:24:44] Lunch Bunch.
[00:24:45] Yeah he was this.
[00:24:47] So right off the bat I was
[00:24:48] like oh they're going to have
[00:24:49] him sing it again.
[00:24:50] Yeah there's a very musical
[00:24:51] episode for for for a Gyllenhaal
[00:24:53] like myself to enjoy.
[00:24:55] Gyllenhaal we've established
[00:24:56] this.
[00:24:57] I like Gyllenhaal.
[00:24:58] Good for you because that's
[00:24:59] what I like.
[00:25:00] But you like adding syllables
[00:25:01] that aren't necessarily your
[00:25:02] words.
[00:25:03] Yeah sometimes I do.
[00:25:04] OK what's wrong with that.
[00:25:05] Fucking idiot.
[00:25:06] How dare you.
[00:25:09] No you're right though this was
[00:25:11] very measured.
[00:25:12] You know he was a great
[00:25:14] performance.
[00:25:15] Yeah I like this one a lot.
[00:25:16] Yep.
[00:25:17] Ariel.
[00:25:18] What's next.
[00:25:19] Beautiful girls and beautiful
[00:25:20] boys.
[00:25:21] Yeah what's next.
[00:25:22] We liked it.
[00:25:23] The next bit from Saturday
[00:25:24] Night Live.
[00:25:25] This one was mystifying to me
[00:25:28] Bike Trail a cyclist played
[00:25:31] by Jake Gyllenhaal interrupts
[00:25:32] a couple Mikey Day and Chloe
[00:25:33] Feynman having a serious
[00:25:34] conversation about their
[00:25:35] future.
[00:25:36] But when Yang pops in to
[00:25:37] piggyback on Gyllenhaal's
[00:25:38] back.
[00:25:39] What was this.
[00:25:40] What the fuck was this.
[00:25:42] This is one of the worst
[00:25:44] sketches I have seen in
[00:25:46] recent memory.
[00:25:47] This sketch bombed so hard
[00:25:50] that you could hear the
[00:25:52] electronic whirring of the
[00:25:54] mechanism on which Jake
[00:25:56] Gyllenhaal's bike sat.
[00:25:58] That's how quiet the studio
[00:26:00] was.
[00:26:01] You could hear the
[00:26:02] electronics of the bike.
[00:26:03] All right.
[00:26:04] So I'll I'll I'll be a
[00:26:05] defender here.
[00:26:06] Oh you got nothing to stand
[00:26:08] on.
[00:26:09] I do.
[00:26:10] So I have never seen these
[00:26:12] this physical premise before.
[00:26:14] Sure.
[00:26:15] Right.
[00:26:16] I mean it's a great sketch
[00:26:17] for the like the set build
[00:26:18] and all that stuff.
[00:26:19] Absolutely.
[00:26:20] Right.
[00:26:21] Also Gyllenhaal's performance
[00:26:22] was very good.
[00:26:23] Jake gave it his all.
[00:26:24] He he he was trying.
[00:26:25] He didn't too hard.
[00:26:26] No no.
[00:26:27] He didn't miss a beat.
[00:26:28] He didn't miss a line.
[00:26:29] Sure.
[00:26:30] Being Fizz and I'm
[00:26:31] sorry but physically reaching
[00:26:32] back and putting that phone
[00:26:33] in that small pocket then
[00:26:34] bringing it back out and
[00:26:35] making it believable.
[00:26:36] He crushed it.
[00:26:37] My Mikey and Chloe weren't
[00:26:38] great in this.
[00:26:39] No they were they were
[00:26:40] whatever.
[00:26:41] Gyllenhaal was awesome here
[00:26:42] even though they I didn't
[00:26:44] really love the sketch.
[00:26:46] He he he nailed every
[00:26:47] aspect of this.
[00:26:49] I thought he went for it
[00:26:50] and it worked for him that
[00:26:51] it needed somebody like
[00:26:52] Will Ferrell in it to make
[00:26:53] it funny.
[00:26:54] Sure.
[00:26:55] Like it just needed somebody
[00:26:56] that can bring awkward
[00:26:58] to it and it didn't have
[00:26:59] it.
[00:27:00] It's like Gyllenhaal did
[00:27:01] the best that he could but
[00:27:02] he was miscast in that
[00:27:03] role.
[00:27:04] Yep.
[00:27:05] But it's not that he didn't
[00:27:06] fucking nail every nuance
[00:27:07] of it.
[00:27:08] The bike and the phone
[00:27:09] and everything all at once
[00:27:10] like and that and being
[00:27:11] able to use voice to
[00:27:12] text like that.
[00:27:13] Because I do that all
[00:27:14] the time where it's like
[00:27:15] hey Brad comma go fuck
[00:27:16] yourself period exclamation
[00:27:17] boy send with slam on
[00:27:18] whatever he said.
[00:27:20] He nailed all those things.
[00:27:22] I get it Brad and not a
[00:27:23] great guy.
[00:27:24] I'm peddling but the
[00:27:25] whole time he nailed
[00:27:27] every aspect of it.
[00:27:28] So I give him props for
[00:27:29] that.
[00:27:30] If the if the premise of
[00:27:31] Saturday Night Live was
[00:27:32] to do have an actor do
[00:27:33] a technically great
[00:27:34] performance without
[00:27:35] delivering anything funny
[00:27:36] that would be awesome.
[00:27:38] But this Saturday Night
[00:27:39] Live and it's not Saturday
[00:27:40] night.
[00:27:41] Do your best bike impression
[00:27:42] the sketch was fucking
[00:27:43] trash and like just as
[00:27:45] yeah the writing wasn't
[00:27:46] good.
[00:27:47] I don't even know.
[00:27:48] And like it really I
[00:27:49] don't know if someone
[00:27:50] fucked up or and they
[00:27:51] just tried to like cover
[00:27:52] it up as best they could.
[00:27:53] I don't know why they
[00:27:54] started the shot of
[00:27:55] Gyllenhaal wide so that
[00:27:56] you can see the bike
[00:27:57] on the track and
[00:27:58] everything like it totally
[00:27:59] takes you out of it
[00:28:00] completely.
[00:28:01] It ruins the mystique
[00:28:02] because if they had kept
[00:28:03] a tighter shot of
[00:28:04] Gyllenhaal where you
[00:28:05] couldn't see that the
[00:28:06] wheels were attached to
[00:28:07] the triangular frames on
[00:28:08] the track and everything
[00:28:10] it might have made the
[00:28:11] illusion better but
[00:28:12] like everything just felt
[00:28:13] like just it was like
[00:28:14] a fucking clunker the
[00:28:15] entire way.
[00:28:17] I do appreciate that
[00:28:18] Gyllenhaal tried as
[00:28:19] hard as he could.
[00:28:20] But but because
[00:28:21] everything around him
[00:28:22] was just an absolute
[00:28:23] mess it felt like
[00:28:24] he was pushing too
[00:28:25] hard to make it
[00:28:26] work and it honestly
[00:28:27] it made me hate
[00:28:28] it even more like
[00:28:29] I really was just
[00:28:30] like I don't even
[00:28:31] know how this fucking
[00:28:32] sketch made it
[00:28:33] to like to air.
[00:28:34] I just don't get the
[00:28:35] vitriol because like
[00:28:36] we've seen I've seen
[00:28:37] so many worse sketches
[00:28:38] in this.
[00:28:39] I disagree.
[00:28:40] Tell me tell me what
[00:28:41] tell me like one one
[00:28:42] line that you thought
[00:28:43] was hilarious.
[00:28:44] No I mean like just
[00:28:45] overall like I'm
[00:28:46] watching this there's
[00:28:47] a performance happening
[00:28:48] at least here and
[00:28:49] some of these like
[00:28:50] this season it's
[00:28:51] just been boring
[00:28:52] to watch right.
[00:28:53] At least there's
[00:28:54] something going on here.
[00:28:55] Yeah but I was bored
[00:28:56] with this too because
[00:28:57] like it was just it
[00:28:58] was just just not
[00:28:59] good.
[00:29:00] All right.
[00:29:01] The sketch was awful.
[00:29:02] OK.
[00:29:03] It was bad.
[00:29:04] I disagree.
[00:29:05] But what did you
[00:29:06] think about it.
[00:29:07] It's pretty good.
[00:29:08] Not bad at all.
[00:29:09] The next sketch.
[00:29:10] This is a pre record
[00:29:11] sketch fast fashion ad.
[00:29:13] And this is for a
[00:29:14] company called
[00:29:15] Shemu and this
[00:29:16] is a commercial
[00:29:17] parody that spoofed
[00:29:18] the imported shady
[00:29:19] online retailers
[00:29:20] Timu and Sheen
[00:29:22] with Jake Gyllenhaal
[00:29:23] Eggo Wodem
[00:29:24] Chloe Feynman
[00:29:25] and Martello Hernandez
[00:29:26] appearing as models
[00:29:27] who are increasingly
[00:29:28] concerned about the
[00:29:29] quality of what they're
[00:29:30] wearing that clearly
[00:29:31] comes from Chinese
[00:29:32] sweatshops.
[00:29:33] What did you guys
[00:29:34] think about this sketch.
[00:29:36] I thought it was
[00:29:37] very very funny.
[00:29:40] Don't worry about it.
[00:29:46] It sounds like you're
[00:29:47] defending the Chinese
[00:29:48] factories.
[00:29:49] Don't worry about it.
[00:29:50] It's fine.
[00:29:51] It was very funny.
[00:29:52] Let's move on.
[00:29:53] Normal.
[00:29:54] There's a normal
[00:29:55] normal number of
[00:29:56] working hours
[00:29:57] normal to find
[00:29:58] no lead.
[00:29:59] You find notes
[00:30:00] in your pockets all the
[00:30:01] time.
[00:30:02] Have you guys ever
[00:30:03] ordered anything from Timu?
[00:30:04] No I have not.
[00:30:05] I'm too scared.
[00:30:06] My kids have.
[00:30:07] And they regret it.
[00:30:08] No but it's all
[00:30:09] cheap crap.
[00:30:10] That somebody
[00:30:11] died producing.
[00:30:13] Jesus.
[00:30:15] This is exactly
[00:30:16] what it is right?
[00:30:17] No it really is.
[00:30:18] You get cheap crap
[00:30:19] and fast fashion
[00:30:20] is a thing
[00:30:21] and it's
[00:30:22] it's growing.
[00:30:23] Like people want
[00:30:24] cheaper stuff
[00:30:25] because of inflation
[00:30:26] but the cost of
[00:30:27] cheaper stuff
[00:30:28] is that somebody
[00:30:29] has to create it.
[00:30:30] Hold on Ben's going
[00:30:31] to defend sweatshops.
[00:30:35] They don't work hard
[00:30:36] enough.
[00:30:37] So as the owner
[00:30:38] of an arcade
[00:30:39] right here we go
[00:30:40] we have redemption
[00:30:41] products that we
[00:30:42] have to put out there
[00:30:43] for the kids.
[00:30:44] We have to get them
[00:30:45] from Timu.
[00:30:46] So you have
[00:30:47] the ability to buy
[00:30:48] you're looking
[00:30:49] for a certain
[00:30:50] cost per item
[00:30:51] obviously.
[00:30:52] You don't want it
[00:30:53] to have to cost
[00:30:54] the kids a thousand
[00:30:55] tickets for a
[00:30:56] slide whistle right.
[00:30:57] So well slide
[00:30:58] whistles.
[00:30:59] But if you go
[00:31:00] on even if you
[00:31:01] go on Amazon
[00:31:02] though like for
[00:31:03] example I looked
[00:31:04] at whoopie cushions
[00:31:05] and we tried to
[00:31:06] find some that were
[00:31:07] good.
[00:31:08] So you look
[00:31:09] at the
[00:31:10] Nate's on track
[00:31:11] with the sounds tonight.
[00:31:12] You look at
[00:31:13] the reviews right
[00:31:14] and it's hilarious
[00:31:15] to me that some
[00:31:16] of these people
[00:31:17] take the time
[00:31:18] obviously to review
[00:31:19] this.
[00:31:20] I'm glad they do
[00:31:21] but because I'm
[00:31:22] like oh that's a
[00:31:23] pretty good price
[00:31:24] on these and you
[00:31:25] just see the
[00:31:26] review and it's
[00:31:27] like didn't even
[00:31:28] sound like a
[00:31:29] real fart
[00:31:30] only only lasted
[00:31:31] once then split
[00:31:32] at the seam
[00:31:33] still didn't sound
[00:31:34] like fart
[00:31:35] and it's all
[00:31:36] caps so some
[00:31:37] people
[00:31:38] are like
[00:31:39] I'm going to
[00:31:40] go for laughter
[00:31:41] played prank on
[00:31:42] grandma got
[00:31:43] beaten pretty
[00:31:44] much stars
[00:31:45] but then the ones
[00:31:46] that are more
[00:31:47] expensive that
[00:31:49] have the great
[00:31:50] ratings like
[00:31:51] shoot I can't
[00:31:52] really afford
[00:31:53] those and then
[00:31:54] enter T.
[00:31:55] And now we didn't
[00:31:56] do it.
[00:31:57] No but but you
[00:31:58] right though right.
[00:31:59] This is what
[00:32:00] you get.
[00:32:01] We we are looking
[00:32:02] at like some of
[00:32:03] the point here is
[00:32:04] I do look
[00:32:05] at things in
[00:32:06] that perspective of
[00:32:07] like
[00:32:08] I'm not going to
[00:32:09] go into
[00:32:10] that
[00:32:11] detail here.
[00:32:12] I just thought
[00:32:13] it was hilarious
[00:32:14] right.
[00:32:15] Like I said normal
[00:32:16] is it
[00:32:17] a normal
[00:32:18] number of working
[00:32:19] hours or
[00:32:20] and then
[00:32:21] like or
[00:32:22] or
[00:32:23] it was just
[00:32:24] I just thought
[00:32:25] it was really
[00:32:26] clever.
[00:32:27] It was fun.
[00:32:28] There were some
[00:32:29] clever stuff but
[00:32:30] it did feel
[00:32:31] like kind of
[00:32:32] like an easy
[00:32:33] like expected
[00:32:34] mark though you
[00:32:35] know what I mean
[00:32:36] pretty decently the
[00:32:37] react the slow
[00:32:38] realization from
[00:32:39] the models and like
[00:32:40] the way that they're
[00:32:41] reacting to
[00:32:42] the poorly
[00:32:43] phrased commercial
[00:32:44] voiceover
[00:32:45] satire.
[00:32:46] It is it's
[00:32:47] just like if my
[00:32:48] take away is
[00:32:49] though like I've
[00:32:50] definitely seen them
[00:32:51] do this
[00:32:52] a thousand times right.
[00:32:53] So it's nothing
[00:32:54] that is breaking
[00:32:55] the mold doesn't
[00:32:56] mean that it
[00:32:57] still wasn't
[00:32:58] enjoyable but I'm
[00:32:59] not going to be
[00:33:00] like oh this
[00:33:01] is an all timer
[00:33:02] but we take
[00:33:03] a lot of umbrage
[00:33:04] with the ways
[00:33:05] that we're
[00:33:06] very good right.
[00:33:07] We're not we're
[00:33:08] with them politically
[00:33:09] but we don't like
[00:33:10] the way in which
[00:33:11] they do it.
[00:33:12] This for me was
[00:33:13] a way in which you
[00:33:14] can make a
[00:33:15] political statement
[00:33:16] in the way
[00:33:17] that we consume
[00:33:18] things that was
[00:33:19] I thought clever.
[00:33:20] It was fine.
[00:33:21] It was good.
[00:33:22] Yeah.
[00:33:23] Yeah.
[00:33:24] Solid weekend update
[00:33:25] with Colin Jost and
[00:33:26] Michael Che.
[00:33:27] We have our
[00:33:28] writers Jost
[00:33:29] and Che tackling
[00:33:30] the week's biggest
[00:33:31] news including
[00:33:32] Steve Bannon calling
[00:33:33] himself the voice
[00:33:34] of the inspired
[00:33:35] McFlurry with
[00:33:36] bits of real
[00:33:37] grandma.
[00:33:38] What did you guys
[00:33:39] think?
[00:33:40] Well actually
[00:33:41] well first of all
[00:33:42] before.
[00:33:43] Wait.
[00:33:44] Brad if you're
[00:33:45] going to do it
[00:33:46] right as you
[00:33:47] guys know
[00:33:48] Brad that's me
[00:33:49] has a standard
[00:33:50] expectation of
[00:33:51] what he would like
[00:33:52] to see from
[00:33:53] Colin Jost and
[00:33:54] Michael Che
[00:33:55] and that is
[00:33:56] that I would like
[00:33:57] to see them just
[00:33:58] just be friends
[00:33:59] and have fun
[00:34:00] and bust each
[00:34:01] other's chops
[00:34:02] and just just
[00:34:03] share this
[00:34:04] with the patented
[00:34:05] bread-ometer
[00:34:06] which I'm going
[00:34:07] to write down
[00:34:08] right now
[00:34:09] and we are going
[00:34:10] to see
[00:34:11] where it
[00:34:12] ended up
[00:34:13] this week.
[00:34:14] Now 0 to 108
[00:34:15] and you know
[00:34:16] what you went
[00:34:17] first last time
[00:34:18] so I'll go first
[00:34:19] this time.
[00:34:20] This one is
[00:34:21] hard because
[00:34:22] it is the
[00:34:23] season finale
[00:34:24] it's a joke swap
[00:34:25] so it immediately
[00:34:26] is heightened to
[00:34:27] but in my
[00:34:28] head
[00:34:29] was it the best
[00:34:30] jokes does
[00:34:31] Brad then
[00:34:32] was it the
[00:34:33] season or
[00:34:34] against other
[00:34:35] jokes over the
[00:34:36] years going to
[00:34:37] this is this is
[00:34:38] subjective more
[00:34:39] than normal
[00:34:40] okay because
[00:34:41] I felt like
[00:34:42] we can objectively
[00:34:43] say that there
[00:34:44] was a lot of
[00:34:45] you know
[00:34:46] did you feel
[00:34:47] like they ended
[00:34:48] it pretty abruptly
[00:34:49] that that
[00:34:50] that was very
[00:34:51] stilted and
[00:34:52] weird and
[00:34:53] I think that last
[00:34:54] joke honestly
[00:34:55] think something
[00:34:56] cut I definitely
[00:34:57] cut something
[00:34:58] and I don't
[00:34:59] know I would
[00:35:00] I need to go
[00:35:01] something happened
[00:35:02] probably that was
[00:35:03] a little too
[00:35:04] risque or whatever
[00:35:05] which probably would
[00:35:06] have been hilarious
[00:35:07] all that being said
[00:35:08] I still think this
[00:35:09] was extremely high
[00:35:10] because it just is
[00:35:11] and so I'm
[00:35:12] gonna I'm gonna
[00:35:13] give it a 90
[00:35:14] I'm gonna go
[00:35:15] that's where I
[00:35:16] was gonna can I
[00:35:17] can I match
[00:35:18] sure I'm gonna go
[00:35:19] with 92
[00:35:20] wait 92
[00:35:21] no 90 as well
[00:35:22] well I want to
[00:35:23] remind you guys
[00:35:24] that last week
[00:35:25] was 92
[00:35:26] okay I'm gonna go
[00:35:27] 94
[00:35:28] see I want to
[00:35:29] go with 90 though
[00:35:30] I think he's
[00:35:31] gauging it maybe
[00:35:32] against
[00:35:33] 94
[00:35:34] 94
[00:35:35] okay
[00:35:36] 90 was
[00:35:37] 98
[00:35:38] 98
[00:35:39] okay wow
[00:35:40] that's almost perfect
[00:35:41] well no now knowing
[00:35:42] that for next time
[00:35:43] it should help
[00:35:44] it doesn't it doesn't
[00:35:45] have to be
[00:35:46] gauged against
[00:35:47] other jokes watch
[00:35:48] it's just about
[00:35:49] the
[00:35:50] it is partially though
[00:35:51] partially because
[00:35:52] the reason
[00:35:53] so then the one
[00:35:54] with the
[00:35:55] think civil rights
[00:35:56] person was 100
[00:35:57] absolutely
[00:35:58] but but that
[00:35:59] now you're now you're
[00:36:00] fucked well
[00:36:01] it changes each season
[00:36:02] what the fuck
[00:36:03] that wasn't even
[00:36:04] I don't feel like
[00:36:05] they recreated
[00:36:06] the magic of
[00:36:07] that first one
[00:36:08] no they didn't
[00:36:09] that's why it's
[00:36:10] 98 not 100
[00:36:11] go back and listen
[00:36:12] it's gonna be like
[00:36:13] it was a 79
[00:36:14] I mean they did
[00:36:15] a pretty good job
[00:36:16] but overall
[00:36:17] no this
[00:36:18] the chaise version
[00:36:19] of the of the
[00:36:20] same bit was
[00:36:21] not as good
[00:36:22] this time
[00:36:23] I thought just one
[00:36:24] this joke swap for
[00:36:25] sure because that him
[00:36:26] and making him call
[00:36:27] out Kendrick Lamar
[00:36:28] this to me
[00:36:29] this joke swap
[00:36:31] that that joke specifically
[00:36:33] did the same thing
[00:36:34] to Michael Che
[00:36:35] that the April
[00:36:36] Fool's joke
[00:36:37] did to Colin Jost
[00:36:38] where he just was
[00:36:39] beside himself and didn't
[00:36:40] understand what was
[00:36:41] happening
[00:36:42] usually doesn't get off
[00:36:43] his rocker like that
[00:36:44] oh he was
[00:36:45] fucked
[00:36:46] he he physically
[00:36:47] didn't want to say
[00:36:48] those words
[00:36:49] I don't like this
[00:36:50] it was so good
[00:36:51] you can feel like
[00:36:52] it's come up like
[00:36:53] the mucus come up
[00:36:54] through his throat
[00:36:55] he didn't want to do it
[00:36:56] yeah that's fantastic
[00:36:57] sorry but then after
[00:36:58] he's like yeah it's good
[00:36:59] he just kept he kept
[00:37:00] saying but yep
[00:37:01] I will admit that
[00:37:02] that was pretty good
[00:37:03] so it's Kendrick
[00:37:04] Drake and now Che
[00:37:05] yeah yeah
[00:37:06] unfortunately for Che
[00:37:07] I can't wait to hear
[00:37:08] Kendrick Lamar's
[00:37:09] diss track about
[00:37:10] Michael Che
[00:37:11] I love it so much
[00:37:12] but yeah so this
[00:37:13] it was fun you know
[00:37:14] they had a lot of
[00:37:15] fun with each other
[00:37:16] joke swap just never
[00:37:17] misses you know
[00:37:18] now by now it can't
[00:37:20] yeah there's
[00:37:21] there's varying degrees
[00:37:22] of quality but like
[00:37:23] Joe swap is
[00:37:24] I'm always going to
[00:37:25] love Joe swap
[00:37:26] it's time to
[00:37:27] retire Joe swap
[00:37:28] and that person
[00:37:29] never
[00:37:30] you go to hell
[00:37:31] yeah like I mean
[00:37:32] you can criticize
[00:37:33] Che and Joe
[00:37:34] is all you want
[00:37:35] some people don't
[00:37:36] like them
[00:37:37] that's fine
[00:37:38] but joke swap
[00:37:39] always works you know
[00:37:40] and so yeah
[00:37:41] this is their
[00:37:42] 10th season
[00:37:43] you know they just
[00:37:44] they wrapped it up
[00:37:45] so the reason
[00:37:46] it works is not
[00:37:47] just because
[00:37:48] it's a joke swap
[00:37:49] the reason it works
[00:37:50] is because I truly
[00:37:51] they're not that
[00:37:52] good of actors
[00:37:53] so this actually
[00:37:54] does impact them
[00:37:55] and you can't
[00:37:56] fake that and they're
[00:37:57] not good enough
[00:37:58] actors to pull that off
[00:37:59] that's why it works
[00:38:00] if that ever went
[00:38:01] away and it was like
[00:38:02] oh here's some jokes
[00:38:03] and whatever
[00:38:04] we would see
[00:38:05] that immediately
[00:38:06] but it's been
[00:38:07] 10 years and it
[00:38:08] hasn't
[00:38:09] there were some
[00:38:10] other really
[00:38:11] good jokes in this
[00:38:12] weekend update too
[00:38:13] I liked the one
[00:38:14] about Prince
[00:38:15] Charles
[00:38:16] and a harsh
[00:38:17] red background
[00:38:18] better than
[00:38:19] having a black
[00:38:20] background
[00:38:21] yeah that's
[00:38:22] better than having
[00:38:23] a black background
[00:38:24] I liked the
[00:38:25] one where they
[00:38:26] were talking about
[00:38:27] black voters getting
[00:38:28] upset that Trump
[00:38:29] and Biden just
[00:38:30] want them for
[00:38:31] their votes
[00:38:32] and Chisholm goes
[00:38:33] yep
[00:38:34] and it was such a
[00:38:35] he jumps right
[00:38:36] into the next joke
[00:38:37] there's still
[00:38:38] so much laughter
[00:38:39] on now the new
[00:38:40] setup to the
[00:38:41] next joke
[00:38:42] I actually
[00:38:43] rewound it
[00:38:44] and listened
[00:38:45] to it again
[00:38:46] I was like
[00:38:47] what did I miss
[00:38:48] here oh that's
[00:38:49] brilliant
[00:38:50] it's a really good
[00:38:51] joke
[00:38:52] no it was
[00:38:53] two cicadas
[00:38:54] talking about the
[00:38:55] largest
[00:38:56] cicada emergence
[00:38:57] since
[00:38:58] sometime in
[00:38:59] the early
[00:39:00] 19th century
[00:39:01] 1813 I think it is
[00:39:02] those two boys
[00:39:03] were having some
[00:39:04] fun so
[00:39:05] the my new
[00:39:06] text message
[00:39:07] notification sound
[00:39:08] is Marcello
[00:39:09] Hernando
[00:39:10] saying stump
[00:39:11] because that's
[00:39:12] the best
[00:39:13] line delivery
[00:39:14] he knew
[00:39:15] that he needed
[00:39:16] to make sure
[00:39:17] the word came out
[00:39:18] right he crushes
[00:39:19] the P on stump
[00:39:20] that's such a
[00:39:21] funny fucking
[00:39:22] thing
[00:39:23] where's that
[00:39:24] party going to be
[00:39:25] the stump
[00:39:26] if you would
[00:39:27] have told me
[00:39:28] they're going to
[00:39:29] do two cicadas
[00:39:30] on weekend
[00:39:31] update
[00:39:32] I would have
[00:39:33] said
[00:39:34] okay it's
[00:39:35] bow and
[00:39:36] yang and who
[00:39:37] else
[00:39:38] Sarah Sherman
[00:39:39] yeah and so
[00:39:40] these two
[00:39:41] though
[00:39:42] not the
[00:39:43] cicadas
[00:39:44] that I thought
[00:39:45] would be
[00:39:46] but
[00:39:47] great costumes
[00:39:48] honestly
[00:39:49] they were super
[00:39:50] elaborate
[00:39:51] how long
[00:39:52] those things
[00:39:53] how they
[00:39:54] use them
[00:39:55] oh man
[00:39:56] so good
[00:39:57] can we have a
[00:39:58] Marcello
[00:39:59] Hernandez
[00:40:00] appreciation moment
[00:40:01] here
[00:40:02] I mean how can we not
[00:40:03] this guy came into
[00:40:04] his own
[00:40:05] this year
[00:40:06] I thought he was
[00:40:07] he was fantastic
[00:40:08] I thought he's a
[00:40:09] he's a star
[00:40:10] on SNL
[00:40:11] he's one he's
[00:40:12] definitely I think
[00:40:13] one of the
[00:40:14] standout featured
[00:40:15] players
[00:40:16] he reminds me
[00:40:17] this year
[00:40:18] he reminds me
[00:40:19] now of like
[00:40:20] yeah
[00:40:21] so next year when we
[00:40:22] come back
[00:40:23] I don't know who
[00:40:24] I assume most of the cast will be together
[00:40:25] in the 50 year
[00:40:26] if
[00:40:27] if
[00:40:28] if anything
[00:40:29] it will be
[00:40:30] Lauren having to make
[00:40:31] decisions
[00:40:32] be like
[00:40:33] yeah you're done
[00:40:34] you're done
[00:40:35] because they're all gonna want to stay for one more year
[00:40:36] how could you not
[00:40:37] no and that's the thing
[00:40:38] so as of now
[00:40:39] it sounds like nobody's leaving
[00:40:40] I think that they'll hire anybody in
[00:40:41] like writer sure
[00:40:42] but like do you think that they'll have
[00:40:43] they could not add to that
[00:40:44] I don't think so
[00:40:45] because like
[00:40:46] why would you want to bring in somebody new for the 50th season
[00:40:47] it would be tough
[00:40:48] like that's a lot of pressure
[00:40:49] and again though
[00:40:50] don't you want somebody new
[00:40:51] don't you
[00:40:52] is that good to have somebody
[00:40:53] I'm not sure if you want anybody new
[00:40:54] until you know who's leaving
[00:40:55] and I think that after the 50th season
[00:40:57] they'll
[00:40:58] they'll have an
[00:40:59] exodus of
[00:41:00] I want to say like three or four people probably
[00:41:01] maybe even more than that
[00:41:02] maybe
[00:41:03] honestly
[00:41:04] because I could
[00:41:05] I guess
[00:41:06] well and you know
[00:41:07] we'll talk about this at the end of the episode
[00:41:08] good news though
[00:41:09] for Ben
[00:41:10] Heidi Gardner has announced she's back
[00:41:11] oh yeah
[00:41:12] no I'm good
[00:41:13] well of course she's
[00:41:14] right back for season 50
[00:41:15] I mean why would she leave
[00:41:16] before season 50
[00:41:17] I just wanted to give him the news
[00:41:18] why not just let him enjoy that moment
[00:41:19] but the
[00:41:20] what if Devon Walkwood's like
[00:41:21] I'm out
[00:41:22] almost every time
[00:41:24] they did the
[00:41:25] Marcello Hernandez
[00:41:26] almost broke
[00:41:27] he had to like
[00:41:28] catch his breath in his mouth
[00:41:29] and it was fun
[00:41:30] and if you
[00:41:31] notice why
[00:41:32] it's because of Keenan
[00:41:33] yeah
[00:41:34] Keenan is the master at this shit
[00:41:35] like just these little nudges
[00:41:36] and little nuances
[00:41:37] and he was so good
[00:41:38] he's got great energy for this
[00:41:39] it was good stuff
[00:41:40] and as a fun little aside
[00:41:41] this was Keenan Thompson's
[00:41:42] 1700th season
[00:41:43] of the show
[00:41:44] and it's a good thing
[00:41:45] I think it's a good thing
[00:41:46] Keenan Thompson's
[00:41:47] 1700th sketch
[00:41:48] good
[00:41:49] on Saturday Night Live
[00:41:50] Lord
[00:41:51] 1700
[00:41:52] there's
[00:41:53] there's not even
[00:41:54] that many cicadas coming
[00:41:55] insane
[00:41:56] good for him
[00:41:57] 1700
[00:41:58] I will be sad
[00:41:59] the day Keenan Thompson
[00:42:00] is on SNL
[00:42:01] well he'll die
[00:42:02] and then he won't be able
[00:42:03] to be on the show
[00:42:04] anymore because he wants to do it
[00:42:05] no he'll get buried
[00:42:06] in studio 8H
[00:42:07] and his ghost will appear
[00:42:08] and his ghost will appear
[00:42:09] because I love him so much
[00:42:10] and at the wake
[00:42:11] they're gonna serve
[00:42:12] muggle fumble
[00:42:13] alright moving on
[00:42:14] from weekend update
[00:42:15] this sketch canceling a flight
[00:42:16] a man hopelessly tries
[00:42:17] to cancel a flight
[00:42:18] with Southwest Airlines
[00:42:19] this was worse
[00:42:20] than the bike sketch
[00:42:21] that's not even remotely true
[00:42:22] Mikey Day
[00:42:23] Chloe Feynman
[00:42:24] Ego Woder
[00:42:25] Molly Carney
[00:42:26] Michael Longfellow
[00:42:27] Keenan Thompson
[00:42:28] James Dawson Johnson
[00:42:29] Devin Walker
[00:42:30] Punky Johnson
[00:42:31] Andrew Dismukes
[00:42:32] and Bowen Yang
[00:42:33] appear as the various
[00:42:34] unhelpful employees
[00:42:35] making Jake Gyllenhaal's
[00:42:36] life a living hell
[00:42:37] this was bad
[00:42:38] I will say this fellow
[00:42:39] who's been on the show
[00:42:40] for a long time
[00:42:41] was bad
[00:42:42] I will say this felt
[00:42:43] like a lazy sketch
[00:42:44] this felt like the Jerry Seinfeld
[00:42:46] of SNL sketches
[00:42:47] of like whoa
[00:42:48] airlines are causing me trouble
[00:42:50] what am I gonna do
[00:42:51] what's the deal with airlines
[00:42:53] like it's the most basic premise
[00:42:54] like yeah we know
[00:42:55] airlines suck
[00:42:56] is this all you're gonna do
[00:42:57] having said that
[00:42:58] I do feel like
[00:42:59] there were a few moments
[00:43:00] of like enough absurd
[00:43:02] that it was funny
[00:43:03] name four
[00:43:04] Devin Walker
[00:43:06] go
[00:43:07] hey
[00:43:08] and then the silence afterwards
[00:43:10] is like
[00:43:11] you want to get high
[00:43:12] yeah
[00:43:13] okay
[00:43:14] this didn't have enough escalation
[00:43:16] no not at all
[00:43:17] definitely not
[00:43:18] there needed to be escalation
[00:43:19] it needed to
[00:43:20] it needed to reach
[00:43:21] truly absurd levels
[00:43:22] for it to actually
[00:43:23] to hit
[00:43:24] on this one I will agree with Brad
[00:43:25] Jake Gyllenhaal's neck
[00:43:28] I'm not arguing
[00:43:29] was putting in so much work
[00:43:30] did you see the veins
[00:43:31] yeah
[00:43:32] now I got it
[00:43:33] in some of the other sketches
[00:43:34] but man
[00:43:35] he was trying so hard
[00:43:36] through his neck
[00:43:37] and the one part that
[00:43:38] where I was like
[00:43:39] I'm trying too hard
[00:43:40] is when Kenan Thompson
[00:43:41] comes in
[00:43:42] and he acts scared
[00:43:43] and then he does it again
[00:43:44] it's like no
[00:43:45] fucking stop man
[00:43:46] we get it
[00:43:47] this is the time
[00:43:48] I'm agreeing with you
[00:43:49] that was way too much
[00:43:50] yeah it was too much
[00:43:51] this sketch was not
[00:43:52] particularly good
[00:43:53] it was not worse
[00:43:54] than bike trail
[00:43:55] by any means
[00:43:56] they were both bad sketches
[00:43:57] yeah
[00:43:58] this is just
[00:43:59] a boring
[00:44:00] more boring setup
[00:44:01] yeah
[00:44:02] this had a couple more laughs
[00:44:03] for me than the other one
[00:44:04] but like
[00:44:05] but it was very safe
[00:44:06] it was very easy
[00:44:07] yep
[00:44:08] this was a stand up bit
[00:44:09] that got turned into a sketch
[00:44:10] yeah
[00:44:11] 100%
[00:44:12] NYPD press conference
[00:44:13] this one's written by
[00:44:14] Mike Desenzo
[00:44:15] Jake Nordwin
[00:44:16] and Josh Patton
[00:44:17] the NYPD's police sergeant
[00:44:18] played by Jake Gyllenhaal
[00:44:19] hosts a press conference
[00:44:20] to address the increase
[00:44:21] in random acts of violence
[00:44:22] in New York City
[00:44:23] which has sparked
[00:44:24] a new initiative
[00:44:25] to protect character actors
[00:44:26] after Steve Buscemi
[00:44:27] was punched in the face
[00:44:28] Heidi Gardner
[00:44:29] Andrew Dismukes
[00:44:30] and Molly Cargna
[00:44:31] also appear
[00:44:32] and John Hamm
[00:44:33] makes yet another cameo
[00:44:34] on Saturday Night Live
[00:44:35] that guy
[00:44:36] that guy
[00:44:37] that guy puts in the work
[00:44:38] he does
[00:44:39] I love this
[00:44:40] I love this
[00:44:41] so when this started
[00:44:42] I was like
[00:44:43] oh okay
[00:44:44] so something happened
[00:44:45] in New York
[00:44:46] that I'm not familiar with
[00:44:47] did you not know about
[00:44:48] the Buscemi thing
[00:44:49] no no no
[00:44:50] so I knew about
[00:44:51] the Buscemi thing
[00:44:52] I didn't realize
[00:44:53] that's what they were
[00:44:54] gonna do
[00:44:55] right at the beginning
[00:44:56] yeah I just thought
[00:44:57] right away I was like
[00:44:58] oh what local New York
[00:44:59] thing are they gonna
[00:45:00] do a joke about
[00:45:01] and it is local New York
[00:45:02] but they turned into
[00:45:03] a universal bit
[00:45:04] about character actors
[00:45:05] which was hilarious
[00:45:06] like if you star in a series
[00:45:09] it's all letters
[00:45:10] you might be a character actor
[00:45:11] go fling yourself again
[00:45:12] goflingyourselfpod.com
[00:45:14] this is maybe why
[00:45:15] we love this one so much
[00:45:16] of course
[00:45:17] this for us
[00:45:18] we've seen this
[00:45:19] we've talked about
[00:45:20] these character actors
[00:45:21] you know that guy
[00:45:22] that guy he's in this
[00:45:23] and this
[00:45:24] my favorite bit
[00:45:25] about this
[00:45:26] if you have more than
[00:45:27] 100 IMDB titles
[00:45:29] but every character
[00:45:30] has only a first name
[00:45:31] that's so fucking specific
[00:45:33] and good
[00:45:34] the Boardwalk Empire one too
[00:45:35] so true though
[00:45:36] all of them
[00:45:37] gosh darn
[00:45:38] they could have done
[00:45:39] so many different
[00:45:40] I was honestly
[00:45:41] this could have gone on
[00:45:42] for another five minutes
[00:45:43] for real
[00:45:44] and I would have laughed
[00:45:45] give me some Toby Huss
[00:45:46] give me some
[00:45:47] give me all of them
[00:45:48] yeah this was
[00:45:49] such a surprising turn
[00:45:50] for me
[00:45:51] I just
[00:45:52] I love this sketch
[00:45:53] I do wonder because
[00:45:54] we love film so much
[00:45:55] if other people
[00:45:56] loved this as much
[00:45:57] as we did
[00:45:58] because this was
[00:45:59] very resonant to us
[00:46:00] our experiences
[00:46:01] and I love the
[00:46:02] so let us know
[00:46:03] in the comments
[00:46:04] because then
[00:46:05] it becomes about
[00:46:06] the reporters turning
[00:46:07] on each other
[00:46:08] about Paul Giamatti
[00:46:09] which is incredible
[00:46:10] like I know he's not
[00:46:12] Brad Pitt
[00:46:13] that's so good
[00:46:14] and I think his name
[00:46:15] is Ted
[00:46:16] yeah
[00:46:17] Stephen Toulbosky
[00:46:18] it's right there
[00:46:19] yeah I've said
[00:46:20] the same thing
[00:46:21] I'm like
[00:46:22] is it like
[00:46:23] Ted or Bill
[00:46:24] or something
[00:46:25] although did you notice
[00:46:26] that Jake Gyllenhaal
[00:46:27] said his name wrong
[00:46:28] twice
[00:46:29] Tolubowski
[00:46:30] Tolubowski
[00:46:31] he's a good actor
[00:46:32] he is yeah
[00:46:33] Stephen Toulbosky
[00:46:34] Ned Ryerson
[00:46:35] needle nose Ned
[00:46:37] Ned the head
[00:46:38] yeah NYPD press conference
[00:46:40] really well
[00:46:41] very very
[00:46:42] probably just because
[00:46:43] it's us
[00:46:44] maybe
[00:46:45] go flicks yourself
[00:46:46] check it out
[00:46:47] last sketch of the night
[00:46:48] Snake Eyes
[00:46:49] written by Mike DeCenzo
[00:46:50] Oshah Ward
[00:46:51] James Austin Johnson
[00:46:52] Sarah Sherman
[00:46:53] and Andrew Dismukes
[00:46:54] things get heated
[00:46:55] when a man
[00:46:56] flirts with a
[00:46:57] bikers girlfriend
[00:46:58] that biker is
[00:46:59] James Austin Johnson
[00:47:00] and that girlfriend
[00:47:01] is Sarah Sherman
[00:47:02] now did this sketch
[00:47:03] unlock any certain fetishes
[00:47:04] for you guys
[00:47:05] I think you're just
[00:47:06] horny watching this
[00:47:07] Sarah Sherman was having
[00:47:08] a night
[00:47:09] I was having a night
[00:47:10] right along with her
[00:47:11] Sarah Sherman is
[00:47:12] a beautiful person
[00:47:13] and she's hilarious
[00:47:14] Ben
[00:47:15] says you've seen
[00:47:16] fiancee Brittany
[00:47:17] yeah you haven't seen
[00:47:18] your fiancee
[00:47:19] in quite a while
[00:47:20] so Sarah Sherman
[00:47:21] wearing fishnets
[00:47:22] well that also sounds
[00:47:23] like a slam on
[00:47:24] Sarah Sherman
[00:47:25] it's not
[00:47:26] she's beautiful
[00:47:27] and a see through shirt
[00:47:28] yeah no she's lovely
[00:47:29] and
[00:47:30] but old Snake Eyes
[00:47:31] I thought this was
[00:47:32] really funny actually
[00:47:33] I thought it was okay
[00:47:34] I didn't love it
[00:47:35] so I think what I liked
[00:47:37] that was funny to me
[00:47:38] the entire time
[00:47:39] was James Austin Johnson's voice
[00:47:40] oh yeah
[00:47:41] it was just hilarious
[00:47:42] it was like
[00:47:43] it was a slightly more
[00:47:45] high pitched
[00:47:46] eccentric version
[00:47:47] of Zach Galifianakis'
[00:47:49] Seth Galifianakis
[00:47:50] character
[00:47:51] his effeminate
[00:47:52] southern brother
[00:47:53] but the way he
[00:47:54] as soon as he walked in
[00:47:55] I was like
[00:47:56] that's just a hilarious voice
[00:47:57] the escalation from the bit itself
[00:47:59] did not
[00:48:00] the timing felt a little bit off
[00:48:01] and it didn't work as well
[00:48:02] also
[00:48:03] like
[00:48:04] I get it that
[00:48:05] that Jill and Hall's character
[00:48:06] is supposed to be
[00:48:07] the same
[00:48:08] I don't know
[00:48:09] there was just something about
[00:48:10] nobody in the sketch
[00:48:11] was a straight person
[00:48:13] yeah I agree
[00:48:14] was just like
[00:48:15] what is going on here
[00:48:16] and so
[00:48:17] that was left to us
[00:48:18] as the audience
[00:48:19] and it just
[00:48:20] didn't work for me as much
[00:48:21] Sarah Sherman was kind of
[00:48:22] the straight person
[00:48:23] in a way
[00:48:24] but yeah I
[00:48:25] I need a Mikey Day character
[00:48:26] on the bar stool
[00:48:27] is nobody else
[00:48:28] watching these
[00:48:29] this is weird
[00:48:30] because while I did like the idea
[00:48:31] that
[00:48:32] that Jake Jill and Hall
[00:48:33] is suddenly just like
[00:48:34] into the exact same
[00:48:35] kind of like battle
[00:48:36] of like looking
[00:48:37] and causing damage
[00:48:38] it did feel like
[00:48:39] it needed some kind of grounding
[00:48:40] yeah
[00:48:41] props to Bowen Yang though
[00:48:42] in this as well
[00:48:43] for his like
[00:48:44] shaking and dropping drinks
[00:48:46] it keeps getting
[00:48:47] like
[00:48:48] do you see the last thing he dropped
[00:48:49] it was a full on fucking pineapple
[00:48:51] I loved that
[00:48:52] I don't care
[00:48:53] that was great
[00:48:54] no this felt like a true 10 to 1 sketch
[00:48:56] yeah
[00:48:57] this was silly
[00:48:58] I was like
[00:48:59] this is a good drop
[00:49:00] and I respected it
[00:49:01] more than I laughed at it
[00:49:02] but
[00:49:03] a little bit messy
[00:49:04] but I still liked it
[00:49:05] I still like it
[00:49:06] a pretty decent amount
[00:49:07] so
[00:49:08] that was
[00:49:09] that was it
[00:49:10] for the evening
[00:49:11] that was all of it
[00:49:12] that was all of it
[00:49:13] what do you think
[00:49:14] is the episode
[00:49:15] I think overall
[00:49:16] the episode
[00:49:17] so so
[00:49:18] yeah it wasn't
[00:49:19] it wasn't the best
[00:49:20] outing of the year
[00:49:21] for sure
[00:49:22] it's not like
[00:49:23] it ended on a complete dud
[00:49:24] though there was
[00:49:25] enough to laugh at
[00:49:26] it just
[00:49:27] was it
[00:49:28] better than 50%
[00:49:29] but only slightly
[00:49:30] was it better than
[00:49:31] Maya Rudolph's episode
[00:49:32] I mean
[00:49:34] Maya Rudolph
[00:49:35] saved that episode
[00:49:36] yeah
[00:49:37] she was so fun to watch
[00:49:38] I can't say that it was
[00:49:39] I think this episode was worse
[00:49:40] only because
[00:49:41] it's the same episode
[00:49:42] but you've got a less
[00:49:43] talented host
[00:49:44] no let me say this
[00:49:45] but I think the highs
[00:49:46] there were better
[00:49:47] better written sketches
[00:49:48] in this one
[00:49:49] there were some really good sketches
[00:49:50] I think the highs
[00:49:51] in the sketches of this episode
[00:49:52] are higher than the highs
[00:49:53] of the last episode
[00:49:54] but Maya Rudolph
[00:49:55] was better
[00:49:56] Maya Rudolph
[00:49:57] was better
[00:49:58] in the last episode
[00:49:59] but Maya Rudolph
[00:50:00] is definitely a better host
[00:50:01] Maya Rudolph
[00:50:02] wasn't given a ton of good sketches
[00:50:03] I think Maya Rudolph's
[00:50:04] episode was better
[00:50:05] overall
[00:50:06] her
[00:50:07] her monologue was fantastic
[00:50:08] yeah
[00:50:09] it was
[00:50:10] it was one of the best
[00:50:11] she's just great
[00:50:12] of course she is
[00:50:13] I'm giving my MVP
[00:50:14] to Dismukes this week
[00:50:15] Dismukes
[00:50:16] okay why
[00:50:17] the physical comedy
[00:50:18] in the peanut butter
[00:50:19] allergy sketch
[00:50:20] was great
[00:50:21] and then
[00:50:22] the fact that he had
[00:50:23] to have Jake Gyllenhaal
[00:50:24] fingers down
[00:50:25] his reactions
[00:50:26] were just awesome
[00:50:27] and he was also
[00:50:28] in the little boys
[00:50:29] thing or whatever
[00:50:30] beautiful boys
[00:50:31] beautiful boys
[00:50:32] sorry so sorry
[00:50:33] beautiful boys
[00:50:34] and then
[00:50:35] what was he in
[00:50:36] right at the end there
[00:50:37] what was the other sketch
[00:50:38] that I loved
[00:50:39] well he was in Snake Eyes
[00:50:40] oh yeah
[00:50:41] yeah he was in Snake Eyes
[00:50:42] he's a bartender
[00:50:43] in Snake Eyes
[00:50:44] what about Sarah Sherman
[00:50:45] I mean she's fantastic
[00:50:46] as always
[00:50:47] I think
[00:50:48] this one was tough for me
[00:50:49] I think
[00:50:50] I think
[00:50:51] I think
[00:50:52] I think
[00:50:53] this one was tough for me
[00:50:54] and
[00:50:55] I do think Dismukes
[00:50:56] deserves it
[00:50:57] I think Marcella Hernandez
[00:50:58] might deserve it too
[00:50:59] I mean the cicadas
[00:51:00] just one
[00:51:01] he was only in the one thing
[00:51:02] no he was in
[00:51:03] he had a key moment
[00:51:04] in Beautiful Boys
[00:51:05] okay okay
[00:51:06] two things
[00:51:07] dipshit
[00:51:08] two things
[00:51:09] but
[00:51:10] Nate who's your MVP
[00:51:11] yeah I had
[00:51:12] no choices
[00:51:13] because I had to
[00:51:14] you have to pick
[00:51:15] I'm actually looking through
[00:51:16] all the sketches
[00:51:17] he forgot
[00:51:18] Brad he forgot
[00:51:19] no no
[00:51:20] I just can't think
[00:51:21] I then just pair
[00:51:22] whatever you guys say
[00:51:23] I think
[00:51:24] but Dismukes is probably
[00:51:25] the best choice
[00:51:26] but I'm with Brad though
[00:51:27] this is a really hard one
[00:51:28] there wasn't for me
[00:51:29] anybody
[00:51:30] probably the rabbi
[00:51:31] fantastic
[00:51:32] the rabbi didn't
[00:51:33] can I give it to
[00:51:34] you think that was
[00:51:35] a real rabbi Brad
[00:51:36] no
[00:51:37] no
[00:51:38] no
[00:51:39] no
[00:51:40] what is your best sketch
[00:51:41] of the night
[00:51:42] Nate
[00:51:43] I really liked
[00:51:44] Beautiful Girls
[00:51:45] I thought it was
[00:51:46] it's called Beautiful Boys
[00:51:47] you will call it
[00:51:48] it's called
[00:51:49] Beautiful Girls
[00:51:50] he will correct you
[00:51:51] it's actually called
[00:51:52] Beautiful Girls
[00:51:53] he will correct you
[00:51:54] every time
[00:51:55] Beautiful Girls
[00:51:56] is it really called Beautiful Girls
[00:51:57] oh it is called
[00:51:58] Beautiful Girls
[00:51:59] wow Brad
[00:52:00] I'll accept an apology
[00:52:01] but that's fine
[00:52:02] I'm sorry
[00:52:03] I'm a piece of shit
[00:52:04] I really liked that sketch
[00:52:05] I thought it was fantastic
[00:52:06] yeah Beautiful Girls
[00:52:07] was very funny
[00:52:08] that was my favorite too
[00:52:09] it was
[00:52:10] I almost
[00:52:11] it also took a lot
[00:52:12] to pull off
[00:52:13] there was a lot of
[00:52:14] performance
[00:52:15] there was a lot of music
[00:52:16] it was a really well done
[00:52:17] I think I would have
[00:52:18] given it to Scooby Doo
[00:52:19] I found out
[00:52:20] that there was so much
[00:52:21] in common with that
[00:52:22] with that other sketch
[00:52:23] it kind of took away
[00:52:24] a little bit from it
[00:52:25] a little bit of shine
[00:52:26] but I still thought Scooby Doo
[00:52:27] was pretty well done
[00:52:28] and it's funny
[00:52:29] the escalation of that worked
[00:52:30] and different enough
[00:52:31] from the original
[00:52:32] learned a sketch
[00:52:33] that I wasn't torn up
[00:52:34] about it
[00:52:35] what about you Benny Boy
[00:52:36] Joke Swap
[00:52:37] you can't pick that
[00:52:38] why not
[00:52:39] it's not a sketch
[00:52:40] sketched in my heart
[00:52:41] no
[00:52:42] it's not how jokes work
[00:52:43] bike
[00:52:44] I like the bike one
[00:52:45] you fucking idiot
[00:52:46] ha ha ha
[00:52:47] bike
[00:52:48] you do not have one
[00:52:49] that you really like
[00:52:50] I mean
[00:52:51] I was not as enamored
[00:52:52] as
[00:52:53] I would probably have to
[00:52:54] pick beautiful girls
[00:52:55] just because
[00:52:56] it's beautiful
[00:52:57] yeah girls
[00:52:58] it was very good
[00:52:59] I didn't love it
[00:53:00] as much as you guys
[00:53:01] but it was definitely
[00:53:02] the one out of all
[00:53:03] it's either that
[00:53:04] or the cookie
[00:53:05] one honestly
[00:53:06] like I really liked
[00:53:07] Dismukes and
[00:53:08] Joe Hall going back
[00:53:09] and forth there
[00:53:10] I like that premise
[00:53:11] again if that would
[00:53:12] have been next season
[00:53:13] and there were some
[00:53:14] distance between
[00:53:15] the Gosling one
[00:53:16] I probably would have
[00:53:17] but it is because of that
[00:53:18] suspend the guys in one
[00:53:19] yeah
[00:53:20] and look at this one
[00:53:21] separately
[00:53:22] then it's my favorite
[00:53:23] I also really liked
[00:53:25] Jillian Hall in the monologue
[00:53:27] I thought that was
[00:53:28] very good
[00:53:29] I thought he did a great job
[00:53:30] I thought it was good
[00:53:31] I was very very happy
[00:53:32] and again
[00:53:33] I always say
[00:53:34] right
[00:53:35] the monologue is where
[00:53:36] I'm going to decide
[00:53:37] if I'm all in
[00:53:38] with his host or not
[00:53:39] and man
[00:53:40] it starts you off
[00:53:41] on the right
[00:53:42] yeah
[00:53:43] you brought the energy
[00:53:44] absolutely
[00:53:45] alright fair enough
[00:53:46] now
[00:53:47] season 50 is going to be
[00:53:48] a big deal
[00:53:49] as we talked about
[00:53:50] at the beginning
[00:53:51] of this episode
[00:53:52] there's going to be
[00:53:53] a lot of guest stars
[00:53:54] they already have
[00:53:55] a prime time
[00:53:56] special planned
[00:53:57] for February 16th
[00:53:58] which is a Sunday
[00:53:59] not a Saturday
[00:54:00] because that's how
[00:54:01] prime time specials work
[00:54:02] and that's
[00:54:03] if it's anything like
[00:54:04] the 40th anniversary special
[00:54:05] it's going to be
[00:54:06] off the reservation
[00:54:07] amazing
[00:54:08] I cannot
[00:54:09] I can't even imagine
[00:54:10] what they're going to do
[00:54:11] the 40th anniversary
[00:54:12] is like one of my
[00:54:13] favorite SNL things
[00:54:14] ever
[00:54:15] and I'm excited
[00:54:16] to see what happens
[00:54:17] as of now
[00:54:18] it's going to be
[00:54:19] a lot of fun
[00:54:20] fun things
[00:54:21] and because
[00:54:22] it's so important
[00:54:23] to the legacy
[00:54:24] of the show
[00:54:25] nobody says no
[00:54:26] to that right
[00:54:27] exactly
[00:54:28] Bill Murray's
[00:54:29] going to be there
[00:54:30] yeah
[00:54:31] gosh darn
[00:54:32] I just can't
[00:54:33] wait to see
[00:54:34] and so much has
[00:54:35] happened since
[00:54:36] the 40 or two
[00:54:37] because like
[00:54:38] you have
[00:54:39] Eddie Murphy's
[00:54:40] hosted since then
[00:54:41] Adam Sandler's
[00:54:42] hosted since then
[00:54:43] you know
[00:54:44] and so much
[00:54:45] has happened
[00:54:46] as of now
[00:54:47] Deadline Hollywood
[00:54:48] has said that
[00:54:49] Marcella Hernandez
[00:54:50] Molly Carney
[00:54:51] Michael Lungfellow
[00:54:52] and Devon Walker
[00:54:53] are likely to be
[00:54:54] promoted to
[00:54:55] regular cast members
[00:54:56] next season
[00:54:57] so that's
[00:54:58] that's probably going to happen
[00:54:59] it doesn't seem like
[00:55:00] anybody's leaving
[00:55:01] and the talk
[00:55:02] for a couple years
[00:55:03] now has been
[00:55:04] that Lorne Michaels
[00:55:05] has like
[00:55:06] actively tried
[00:55:07] to keep as many
[00:55:08] people around
[00:55:09] as he can
[00:55:10] until season 50
[00:55:11] so that everyone
[00:55:12] can be there
[00:55:13] so that's the thing
[00:55:14] is like there have been rumblings
[00:55:15] is he done after season 50?
[00:55:16] yeah there have been
[00:55:17] there have been rumblings
[00:55:18] that Lorne Michaels
[00:55:19] does want to retire
[00:55:20] after season 50
[00:55:21] but nothing official
[00:55:22] has been said
[00:55:23] the names that
[00:55:24] have been thrown around
[00:55:25] as like possible
[00:55:26] replacements are people
[00:55:27] like Seth Meyers
[00:55:28] Tina Fey
[00:55:29] Adam Sandler
[00:55:30] Seth Meyers I think
[00:55:31] just signed a new
[00:55:32] I mean obviously
[00:55:33] it's NBC
[00:55:34] get out of it
[00:55:35] but he just signed
[00:55:36] a new contract
[00:55:37] and I thought
[00:55:38] when he did that
[00:55:39] that it was an indication
[00:55:40] that it's not going to be him
[00:55:41] that's already kind of
[00:55:42] shot at it
[00:55:43] because also Tina Fey
[00:55:44] is not doing it
[00:55:45] right now
[00:55:46] she just
[00:55:47] but she knows
[00:55:48] the ins and outs of SNL
[00:55:49] she was on
[00:55:50] Weekend Update
[00:55:51] she also
[00:55:52] she's run shows before
[00:55:54] she's the best pedigree
[00:55:55] no I think I agree with you
[00:55:57] but again like Nate says
[00:55:59] too nothing is official
[00:56:00] and even Seth Meyers
[00:56:01] himself said
[00:56:02] he said quote
[00:56:03] I think this is a false narrative
[00:56:04] that Lorne is going anywhere
[00:56:05] I think it's made sense
[00:56:06] for Lorne who's
[00:56:07] yeah got a flare
[00:56:08] for the dramatic
[00:56:09] to say I think I'll be done at 50
[00:56:10] it's not like Lorne's
[00:56:11] he's going to be 80
[00:56:12] so I think
[00:56:13] I think that's
[00:56:14] something else
[00:56:15] he wants to do
[00:56:16] more than this
[00:56:17] which I
[00:56:18] actually see
[00:56:19] that as well
[00:56:20] I can see him
[00:56:21] saying I'm not done
[00:56:22] he's going to be 80
[00:56:23] this year
[00:56:24] but he still
[00:56:25] seems pretty sprightly
[00:56:26] yeah I could see him
[00:56:27] doing it
[00:56:28] literally until he dies
[00:56:29] I could see him
[00:56:30] being like
[00:56:31] you know what
[00:56:32] it's time for somebody
[00:56:33] else to take over
[00:56:34] but I don't know
[00:56:35] we have a whole
[00:56:36] year to get through
[00:56:37] a whole season of television
[00:56:38] would somebody
[00:56:39] like Tina Fey
[00:56:40] or Lorne Michaels
[00:56:41] you know I don't know
[00:56:42] would Lorne Michaels
[00:56:43] like stick around
[00:56:44] in like a
[00:56:45] consultation capacity
[00:56:46] you know
[00:56:47] would he still be
[00:56:48] a consulting producer
[00:56:49] or would he just say
[00:56:50] Tina Fey the show
[00:56:51] is yours now
[00:56:52] and if when that happens
[00:56:53] I'm going to keep my office
[00:56:54] for another couple seasons
[00:56:55] I'll be in there
[00:56:56] if you need me
[00:56:57] because I would really like
[00:56:58] for Bill Murray
[00:56:59] to stop by and say hi
[00:57:00] I don't want to be here
[00:57:01] when he comes
[00:57:02] well I want to make sure
[00:57:03] Paul Simon has a place
[00:57:04] to hang out
[00:57:05] when he comes by the studio
[00:57:06] you know Danny and I
[00:57:07] go way back
[00:57:08] and I just want to
[00:57:09] yeah I don't know
[00:57:10] I could easily see
[00:57:11] Tina Fey taking over
[00:57:12] and I feel like
[00:57:13] we're reaching a point
[00:57:14] to that after season 50
[00:57:16] regardless of what happens
[00:57:17] and how things go
[00:57:18] you've reached a point
[00:57:19] where you have
[00:57:20] so many cast members
[00:57:21] and you're going to have
[00:57:22] some kind of like
[00:57:23] shift of people leaving
[00:57:24] and stuff like that
[00:57:25] that there's probably
[00:57:26] going to need to be
[00:57:27] an overhaul of some type
[00:57:28] it's going to be a thing
[00:57:29] where we have a couple years
[00:57:30] of rebuilding
[00:57:31] of figuring out
[00:57:32] what the cast is like
[00:57:33] without certain people
[00:57:34] I could see somebody
[00:57:35] like Heidi Gardner
[00:57:36] leaving after season 50
[00:57:37] I can see
[00:57:38] there's a lot of people
[00:57:39] I could see
[00:57:40] yeah I could see
[00:57:41] Bowen Yang leaving
[00:57:42] he's starting to get more
[00:57:43] movie roles all the time
[00:57:44] he's going to be in Wicked
[00:57:45] this summer even
[00:57:46] so I feel like
[00:57:47] there's plenty of people
[00:57:48] who could easily
[00:57:49] leave the show
[00:57:50] but they have a strong
[00:57:51] enough cast
[00:57:52] that it will be fine
[00:57:53] you know
[00:57:54] I think the biggest thing
[00:57:55] that would change
[00:57:56] is after 50
[00:57:57] if Che and Jost go
[00:57:59] that's a true signaling
[00:58:00] of it's a turnover
[00:58:01] of a new era
[00:58:02] and I think that's
[00:58:03] pretty likely too
[00:58:04] honestly
[00:58:05] I feel like
[00:58:06] every time that I look at
[00:58:07] my life
[00:58:08] looking at SNL
[00:58:09] it's who was behind
[00:58:10] the weekend update desk
[00:58:11] and I kind of
[00:58:12] take those as eras
[00:58:13] you know
[00:58:14] so if they leave
[00:58:15] and like somebody like
[00:58:16] Eggo and Heidi
[00:58:17] leave at the same time
[00:58:18] Bowen leaves
[00:58:19] I mean Kenan's still
[00:58:20] going to be there of course
[00:58:21] but you've got
[00:58:22] you know
[00:58:23] a smaller cast
[00:58:24] which isn't necessarily
[00:58:25] a bad thing
[00:58:26] they've ballooned
[00:58:27] into this 22 person cast
[00:58:28] or whatever
[00:58:29] I mean remember
[00:58:30] the ready
[00:58:31] and the not ready
[00:58:32] for prime time players
[00:58:33] what seven?
[00:58:34] seven people
[00:58:35] I mean it's okay
[00:58:36] seven, 11, 12 people
[00:58:37] then you could do a lot more
[00:58:38] and I kind of hope that maybe
[00:58:40] if they're going to make a shift
[00:58:42] they try a couple years
[00:58:43] of a smaller cast
[00:58:45] Who would you like to see take over
[00:58:47] the weekend update desk?
[00:58:49] That's
[00:58:51] yeah
[00:58:52] that's a great question man
[00:58:53] because I'm not sure
[00:58:54] that there's anybody there
[00:58:55] that currently fits the vibe
[00:58:56] of like what you typically
[00:58:57] expect from weekend update
[00:58:58] the closest I can think
[00:59:01] and the experience isn't there yet
[00:59:03] is like if they
[00:59:05] tried out Michael Longfellow
[00:59:07] and had him do
[00:59:08] you know basically like
[00:59:09] a Norm MacDonald dry kind of stick
[00:59:11] yeah
[00:59:12] but otherwise I'm not sure
[00:59:13] if there's anybody else
[00:59:14] who really fits that
[00:59:15] that the build
[00:59:16] yeah
[00:59:17] that's
[00:59:18] that's a very interesting point
[00:59:20] because yeah
[00:59:21] I don't think that
[00:59:22] Chloe Feynman is just
[00:59:23] too much of an impressionist
[00:59:25] I mean James Austin Johnson
[00:59:26] could do it
[00:59:27] but
[00:59:28] that's a good point
[00:59:29] he would be pretty good
[00:59:30] but you wouldn't want to lose him
[00:59:31] from this catcher zone
[00:59:32] because he does
[00:59:33] I could see James Austin Johnson
[00:59:34] and Michael Longfellow
[00:59:35] doing it together maybe
[00:59:36] yeah
[00:59:38] it's yeah
[00:59:39] it's almost like you don't want
[00:59:40] to lose certain people too
[00:59:41] like I would love to see
[00:59:42] a lot more of Marcello Hernandez
[00:59:44] but that would mean
[00:59:45] that I would lose him
[00:59:46] on these sketches
[00:59:47] or as a bits on
[00:59:48] the weekend update desk
[00:59:49] yeah
[00:59:50] no thank you
[00:59:51] yeah exactly
[00:59:52] yeah that's tough
[00:59:53] no so I wonder if they would
[00:59:54] bring in somebody next year
[00:59:56] that they think would be
[00:59:57] good for that role
[00:59:59] you know as a new cast
[01:00:00] have they ever hired
[01:00:01] somebody with the intention
[01:00:03] to be an anchor right away
[01:00:04] because that feels like
[01:00:05] it's something that you eventually
[01:00:06] yeah here's another thing too
[01:00:07] is
[01:00:09] Colin Jost was he a cast member
[01:00:10] or was he a writer
[01:00:12] writer
[01:00:13] yeah so
[01:00:14] I thought but wasn't
[01:00:15] he was a featured cast member
[01:00:16] before
[01:00:17] I don't believe so
[01:00:18] I really don't believe so
[01:00:20] the thing that
[01:00:21] I think that
[01:00:22] Michael Che
[01:00:23] what about him
[01:00:24] no I believe they were
[01:00:25] both just writers
[01:00:26] yeah
[01:00:27] I'm pretty sure Che
[01:00:28] if Jost wasn't
[01:00:29] I'm pretty sure
[01:00:30] Che was
[01:00:31] make me a liar
[01:00:32] I think that
[01:00:33] the biggest transition
[01:00:34] that we've seen in the last
[01:00:35] 20 years on the weekend
[01:00:36] update desk
[01:00:37] when Norm McDonnell
[01:00:38] got fired and then
[01:00:39] Colin Quinn had to step in
[01:00:40] Colin Quinn was not
[01:00:41] ever going to be
[01:00:42] a permanent
[01:00:43] fixture behind the weekend
[01:00:44] update desk
[01:00:45] that's just somebody who
[01:00:46] kind of had to fill the role
[01:00:47] and
[01:00:48] if somebody
[01:00:49] quit unexpectedly
[01:00:50] like for some reason
[01:00:51] they didn't have anybody
[01:00:52] for season 50
[01:00:53] Michael Longfellow
[01:00:54] would be the guy
[01:00:55] that I'm like
[01:00:56] well at least there's a guy
[01:00:57] that you know
[01:00:58] kind of fits the bill
[01:00:59] what about Seth Meyers
[01:01:00] was he just a writer
[01:01:01] yeah
[01:01:02] Seth Meyers was definitely
[01:01:03] a cast member
[01:01:04] Jost was not a cast member
[01:01:05] he was
[01:01:06] a writing supervisor
[01:01:07] from 2009 to 2012
[01:01:08] co-head writer
[01:01:09] from 2012 to 2015
[01:01:10] regained it in 2017
[01:01:11] until 2022
[01:01:12] and he's not
[01:01:13] head writer anymore
[01:01:14] and then it was
[01:01:15] following the 2012-2013 season
[01:01:17] was when
[01:01:18] Norm Michaels asked him
[01:01:19] to step up
[01:01:20] in place of Seth Meyers
[01:01:21] and Seth Meyers
[01:01:22] were leaving for late
[01:01:23] night in Seth Meyers
[01:01:24] Tina Fey was just a writer
[01:01:25] yep
[01:01:26] and then
[01:01:27] she was a writer
[01:01:28] interesting
[01:01:29] so could it be
[01:01:30] that the next
[01:01:31] weekend update
[01:01:32] host is a writer
[01:01:33] of course
[01:01:34] could be
[01:01:35] yeah
[01:01:36] but Tina Fey was
[01:01:37] in sketches
[01:01:38] before she was at
[01:01:39] the weekend update
[01:01:40] only as like
[01:01:41] but as writers are
[01:01:42] often times
[01:01:43] Claren O'Brien
[01:01:44] was too Brad
[01:01:45] that's true
[01:01:46] that's what I'm saying
[01:01:47] actually that happens
[01:01:48] fairly often
[01:01:49] where they need
[01:01:50] a write
[01:01:51] they need a background
[01:01:52] actor
[01:01:53] it happens a lot less
[01:01:54] these days
[01:01:55] because
[01:01:56] there's
[01:01:57] 27,000 people
[01:01:58] in the cast
[01:01:59] but back in the day
[01:02:00] you saw a lot more
[01:02:01] writers
[01:02:02] especially in
[01:02:03] monologues
[01:02:04] and this
[01:02:05] you know
[01:02:06] when they were
[01:02:07] in the studio
[01:02:08] asking questions
[01:02:09] yep
[01:02:10] they were often writers
[01:02:11] I think that's why
[01:02:12] I have a blurred
[01:02:13] line as far as
[01:02:14] like which
[01:02:15] you just say you're wrong
[01:02:16] it's okay
[01:02:17] no I am
[01:02:18] it is wrong
[01:02:19] but like
[01:02:20] that's why my
[01:02:21] perspective is skewed
[01:02:22] as far as
[01:02:23] which weekend update
[01:02:24] anchors were
[01:02:25] in like
[01:02:26] prominent sketches
[01:02:27] because they were
[01:02:28] the writers who
[01:02:29] would occasionally
[01:02:30] Michael Che was just a writer
[01:02:31] yeah he was
[01:02:32] I just don't say
[01:02:33] hey he was
[01:02:34] I also forgot
[01:02:35] I was right
[01:02:36] I forgot Che was on
[01:02:37] Daily Show for a little bit
[01:02:39] just a random
[01:02:40] tangent
[01:02:41] so actually
[01:02:42] in more recent years
[01:02:44] it's more likely
[01:02:45] that it will be a writer
[01:02:46] yeah
[01:02:47] because they
[01:02:48] I can understand though
[01:02:49] not wanting to
[01:02:50] lose any of their
[01:02:51] cast members
[01:02:52] to the weekend update desk
[01:02:53] especially
[01:02:54] the ones that could
[01:02:55] have a
[01:02:56] proclivity towards
[01:02:57] the weekend update desk
[01:02:58] but still you're like
[01:02:59] whoa I'm not losing
[01:03:00] James Osterjantzen
[01:03:01] would probably be
[01:03:02] pretty good at it
[01:03:03] but like
[01:03:04] no you don't want to
[01:03:05] lose him
[01:03:06] 100%
[01:03:07] well
[01:03:08] we'll see what happens
[01:03:09] when season 50
[01:03:10] rolls around
[01:03:11] until then
[01:03:12] Stuart saves his family
[01:03:13] should we do an
[01:03:14] episode of like
[01:03:15] retrospective of the year
[01:03:16] where our favorite
[01:03:17] sketches or
[01:03:18] yeah we'll probably
[01:03:19] do that
[01:03:20] maybe top five
[01:03:21] yeah we'll do a
[01:03:22] best of season 49
[01:03:23] and talk about
[01:03:24] who the best performers
[01:03:25] were, best hosts
[01:03:26] but also first
[01:03:27] tell me what yours are
[01:03:28] so I'll just steal yours
[01:03:29] not you two
[01:03:30] but our listeners
[01:03:31] sexiest Velma impression
[01:03:32] on Saturday Night Live
[01:03:33] we'll talk about that
[01:03:34] sexiest Velma
[01:03:35] we will definitely
[01:03:36] also be doing episodes
[01:03:37] over the summer
[01:03:38] here and there
[01:03:39] as we continue
[01:03:40] our way through
[01:03:41] Saturday Night Live movies
[01:03:42] and once we make
[01:03:43] our way through
[01:03:44] all the movies
[01:03:45] we'll figure out
[01:03:46] where to go from there
[01:03:47] maybe we'll do
[01:03:48] some more
[01:03:49] retrospective stuff
[01:03:50] maybe we'll figure
[01:03:51] out something else
[01:03:52] and then we'll
[01:03:53] maybe we'll all get a
[01:03:54] subscription to
[01:03:55] Peacock
[01:03:56] and just start
[01:03:57] watching some past episodes
[01:03:58] sure
[01:03:59] maybe not
[01:04:00] but yeah that's
[01:04:01] that's it for
[01:04:02] this episode
[01:04:03] and for this season
[01:04:04] of Saturday Night Live
[01:04:05] we did it guys
[01:04:06] season 49
[01:04:07] we made it all the way
[01:04:08] through
[01:04:09] in that books
[01:04:10] who are you hoping
[01:04:11] to host next year Brad?
[01:04:12] Tom Cruise
[01:04:13] Leonardo DiCaprio
[01:04:14] Nate who would you like
[01:04:15] to see host next year?
[01:04:16] Justin Bieber
[01:04:17] Justin Bieber
[01:04:18] Justin Bieber
[01:04:19] Justin Bieber
[01:04:20] Justin Bieber
[01:04:21] Justin Timberlake
[01:04:22] I want to see
[01:04:23] Chris Hemsworth
[01:04:24] come back
[01:04:25] yeah
[01:04:26] I really want to see
[01:04:27] him come back
[01:04:28] Bill Hader as well
[01:04:29] Timberlake is going
[01:04:30] to be on tour
[01:04:31] I'd love to see
[01:04:32] him come back
[01:04:33] that would be great
[01:04:34] Cecily Strong
[01:04:35] I would love to see
